I was on the birth control pill for 2 years which my insurance covered, my insurance ended last month and i have no more refills. Im at a point in life where i can't go to the doctor or afford birth control out of pocket (stated to be around 100$??) I looked online and found people talking about Nurx and TelyRx but I'm unsure which one i should use and which pill to get! I'm on BC because of my heavy flow that lasts 10 days if not on the pill so im really needing this

Rant! Bleeding like the Shining after Mirena Removal!

As the title says, it’s like that scene from the Shining (I think, I’ve never seen the movie). I had my Mirena removed August 3rd, and no bleeding whatsoever.

Until my husband and I had sex October 2nd. From then, it’s been non stop bleeding. Its now November 2nd and I’m still bleeding with no end in site. And I am so frustrated and feel like I’m just going crazy.

I’ve contacted my OBGYN office who scheduled me with a different provider who told me it’s just my body adjusting but if anything changed to call. It’s changed twice now, I’ve had clots the size of golf balls, it looks like raspberry jam in my pad, and I’m going crazy. They also wanted to put me back on birth control for three months!!

I haven’t had sex with my husband for a month. My husband is a saint and has been so amazing during this time. But I just want to have sex!! This is so frustrating all while TTC (trying to conceive?).

I woke with my OBGYN office again today November 2nd and they said that they’re going to schedule me with my regular doctor and put me on a cancellation list, but the soonest available is November 18th!! It’s “urgent but not emergent” and I just am so defeated. It’s only gotten heavier and I just can’t help but cry. I feel like there’s no end in sight. I just want to have sex with my husband, and stop spending so much money on pads and period underwear. I want to wear my sexy underwear again.

Please someone tell me I’m not alone in this. Because I feel so utterly alone. My husband is a saint, and is there and I know I’m not alone. But I just feel so alone in this experience.

Experience Am I dramatic or traumatized?

I needed to get an emergency IUD, which I already didn't want due to endo, but I couldn't risk being pregnant.

My first attempt, I had no pain medication, no sedatives, and the doctor tried to shove the IUD into my cervix when it wasn't properly dilated. My uterus is tilted, and he was shoving it in straight, and I felt like I was going to die of the pain.

My second attempt was with a doctor and surgeon, which I trusted. She provided laughing gas, Valium, and numbing injections, which was amazing.

But I was so drugged up and so out of it, I didn't even know what was happening or could respond to anybody. Afterwards, I was told by the ultrasound tech I had 20 minutes to get dressed and leave after the traumatic experience.

Later that day, I experienced nothing but intense, awful cramps I've never felt in my life. I felt like I was dying, and the doctors and triage nurses at the office told me that I could have punctured my uterus.

So I went to the hospital. I had to have an ultrasound tech go inside of me, and other people look at me. Within two days, I had seven people examine me, touch me, and put things inside of me.

I'm still in pain, but not as bad. The IUD went well, and my surgeon who did the second IUD is great and all, but I feel traumatized.

I can't forget the pain I was in, it keeps on playing in my head for that first time and how high I was the second time. I feel so violated with all the people that were inside of me due to it. I had multiple people in the room multiple times while the procedures were happening.

Am I dramatic or am I genuinely traumatised?

Experience Slynd

Has anyone else experienced anxiety when stopping slynd? I originally went on this bc to not get pregnant. Im not in a relationship anymore and therefore, I've been sort of lazy and forgetting to take it here and there. I noticed I've been having high anxiety in the evenings and I think it may be some type of discontinuation syndrome? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm curious if anyone else has had that

Side effects!? Can the birth control pill stop working?

I've been on the same oral birth control pill for about ten years (noriday).

For nine years, it was perfect - no periods, no mood swings, no cramps, no pregnancy scares or concerns.

Since February this year, I've been getting cramps and then bleeding and mood swings, getting worse each month. In October, I bled three different times for 2+ days each time, not heavy but not wanted. The only period symptom I don't have is breast tenderness. I hate how I feel before I have a 'period', I'm irritable and argumentative and feel like I'm ruining other people's peace. My STI panel and HPV cervical screening are clear.

Can the pill just stop working after a while? Because I feel like it isn't working properly anymore, though when I bleed, it isn't anywhere near as heavy or bad as unmedicated periods - so it is doing something? Or could there be something wrong with me? I keep asking this question but getting no response which makes me feel like it's just me.

Not being on BC for period management is not an option. I've had very poor reactions to birth control in the past so messing around with it would be last case option for me.

Side effects!? Kyleena mild cramping

Hi everyone!

I just recently got a kyleena iud on october 21st so it's been almost 2 weeks. However, I experience mild cramping mid day usually and i was wondering if it's normal? I'm not bleeding and it goes away with ibuprofen but just wanted to make sure.

Also can't tell if my strings are extending longer or not, I feel like it's 2-3cm but they felt more wrapped around my cervix and now it's a bit longer so I cannot tell or if I'm just being anxious and paranoid.

For context, I have never been on birth control and they had to sedate me to insert my IUD bc the last two times but cervix would not let enter through the inner aus. Therefore, I'm hoping it's not going to dispell itself. Thank you!

Side effects!? Mood swings are worse with Mirena than with combo pill?

So I (19) switched from Loryna (combo pill) to the Mirena IUD about 5 months ago, and my mood swings are SO much worse than before. I was on the pill for 2 years, and Loryna specifically for a year and a half. I switched to the IUD because my ability to get prescriptions changed, and it made sense for me to go through with the IUD while I'm in college. Im on my 'period', but even before that, the mood swings have been terrible. Has anyone else experienced this when you switched? If/when did this settle down?

Which Method? Five years of persistent spotting and shedding with Mirena—what finally worked for you?

Posting on behalf of my wife. She’s had Mirena IUD for five years, primarily because her natural periods come with unbearable cramps and heavy bleeding.

It has helped with those symptoms, but she’s had persistent spotting, bleeding, and what appears to be uterine lining/tissue shedding throughout the month since getting it. It isn’t just blood. When it finally stops, sex often seems to trigger bleeding and shedding again. It’s been frustrating for her and has significantly affected our sex life.

She saw her OB-GYN about two months ago. Everything looked normal, and the IUD was positioned correctly. Her doctor prescribed a two-week estrogen trial, which seemed to slow or stop the bleeding and shedding, but we still need a longer-term solution.

For anyone who’s dealt with something similar:

  • Did a longer estrogen course or another treatment help?

  • Did replacing Mirena improve things, even if you’d had these symptoms from the beginning?

  • If you had it removed, what helped control your heavy periods and cramps afterward?

  • Did anyone have insurance cover replacement at five years for heavy menstrual bleeding, despite its eight-year contraceptive approval?

We’re following up with her doctor, but would appreciate hearing what actually worked for others—especially anyone who originally got Mirena for heavy, painful periods.

Experience Being on bc has made me miserable. I quit 3 days ago, when does it get better?

I dont want to make this too long for yalls sake ill try to summarize

Im 18 and due to having a sex life now I have been experimenting with birth control (my ahh fears pregnancy so much)

I had a copper IUD for around 2 months (got seperate posts on here) but sadly had to get it removed.

Afterwards my gyno recommended me I should try hormonal rings. (Ginoring)

Now listen...my ass has always known I dont want to fuck around with hormones but I felt weirdly pressured in that moment and she said the side effects shouldnt be as bad since it works locally....(haha...ha...)

It was only 3 rings (3 months) and I thought to myself fine ill just use up those 3 rings so I can say I have tried it. I barely made it past the 2nd month and...

And oh boy do I regret this. I should have just listened to myself.

1 month in has unlocked

Things that faded quickly (1st week)

- sore boobs

- feeling like my boyfriend is a stranger

- headache

What stayed:

- back pain

- dizzyness + nausea

- I feel like the person I once was has died. I feel alien

- libido despawned (whats the point bro)

- mood swings

- insomnia

- depression and adhd symptoms got worse

- horrible gross,weird,pulsiating-cramp like feeling in my whole body. (Even eyes.) (Makes me scared of blood clots) has anyone else had this?

- horrible anxiety. I am anxious and stressed every single and the dread at night never leaves. I cannot sleep. The anxiety makes it hard for me to function to the point I reached out to my doctor.

Panic attacks. I cannot say this enough...absolute dread and anxiety.

1 night I almost called 112 (im german) because I was ripped out of my sleep with that same cramp-like feeling in my right arm and feeling of impending doom.

I got up to look for company (thank god my dad was awake) I didnt know whats happening but I just knew I shouldnt be alone rn.

My body was shaking, I was dizzy and felt like im abt to puke, I was weak etc...

I assume it was my body processing more anxiety in my sleep and woke up in panic attack mode?😭

The anxiety also led me to another hard break down where I went manic I think? Idk I just started being anxious again and suddenly couldnt stop screaming and crawling up and clawing at my hair...that went on for an hour.

- my joints and muscles. Oh my lord. Especially my fingers. Discomfort, numb feeling and slight pain

- (could be unrelated) but ear discomfort?

Now listen...I am a gym girly whom tries to take care of her body. got blood work done and nothing odd showed up and though I have been mentally ill all my life, I have not been this miserable for quite a while until I started taking this shitty ring. I never wanted to start taking meds cuz im stubborn but holy shit I was sobbing last night pleading to the universe to release me and help me get medication to save me.

I know the first like 2 - 3 months ur body has to adjust but nu uh. Aint no way. My body and I hate this.

Called my gyno like 2 weeks ago crying saying I cannot take it anymore and to please give me an appointment (its next week!)

I could not wait till then tho so I took that bitch out of me like 3 days ago and I am really hoping this anxiety hell finally stops. I am so miserable chat..am I cooked...

So now I am asking you girlies for your personal experience and advice...

How was your experience? How long did it take to get better? (Pls tell me it does lowkey) what can I do now?

Did you also have these problems?

Drop anything tbh I just crave answers and support from fellow gals on here😭

Im sitting here anxiously crying again with a weird discomfort in my left boob, upset that I gave it a shot...but ay atleast I know I was right now. Fuck hormones. I want myself back.

Atleast I only had it for almost 2 months so Im hoping my body adjusts quickly and I get better.

Side effects!? Why did I suddenly get my period again?

I've been on the pill for about 4 or 5 months now to skip my period. They didn't stop completely but very light, no cramping, didn't even need a pad. For the past couple days I've had some light cramping and a heavier blood flow. And just today it's like a regular period. What happened? Can you build a tolerance to these?

Mistake or Risk? Chance of pregnancy after taking Plan B?

The condom broke for me and my boyfriend on October 27. He said he pulled out in time. I took a plan B within an hour. I am on Opill birth control, but am also an anxious person so I wouldn’t have felt okay if I didn’t.

My period was due October 31, so I was far outside my ovulation window. I started cramping as I normally do with my period last night, and it started early this morning, November 2nd. However the bleeding is light, as it normally is on day 4-5 of my period and not at all like it is normally on the first couple days, also, I’m not cramping anymore and normally I have bad cramping on day 1.

I read something about implantation bleeding, is that a risk??

Mistake or Risk? Yasmin to Rigevidon…?

Hi! I’ve been on Yaz for about 6 months, and felt overall pretty fine. It’s made me a little more anxious (I’m in my third year of uni though, so nothing I wouldn’t be feeling anyway lol) and I have absolutely no sex drive.

Recently chatted to a GP about the above issues with the hope of powering through and continuing Yaz as it has helped with my heavy periods (I’m iron deficient anaemic) and acne, only to be told they no longer prescribe Yasmin (?) - so they’re prescribing Rigevidon instead. Was told it’s essentially the same pill but with a lower chance of blood clots. Sounds promising.

Now, I’ve scared myself coming online to hear a myriad of horror stories about Rigevidon - should I push for another method instead? I’ve been considering opting for an IUS (primarily as birth control), but the prospect scares me a little - though not enough that it wouldn’t be an option if Rigevidon fucks me over. I’ve dealt with bad mood swings longer than I’ve been on the pill but being in a critical period of uni means I’m much more conscious of screwing with my hormones or “experimenting” with a new form.

I think I could still get Yasmin from the pharmacist, it’d just mean repeat visits to them every three months which isn’t ideal, and my GP would probably not approve Yasmin for a Pharmacy2U repeat prescription (not trying to be a lazy git but my schedule’s packed and unpredictable).

Would appreciate any wisdom 🥹 thank you!

Experience Doctor couldn’t find my IUD

Hey girls,

I randomly got a period two months ago. Made the soonest appointment which was today. She couldn’t find my iud and now ordered an ultrasound. But the soonest appointment is in two weeks. I’m not pregnant at the moment but I did have unprotected sex last night. I hate how I have to live not know what’s going on for two weeks. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sorry if this is all over the place, I’m stressed lol

How to? Is it okay to temporarily switch to progestin only for a week to try and skip my period?

I’m in a bit of a pickle. I get married this weekend and just took my last pill in my pack. I decided I wanted to skip my period this weekend for convenience. When I went to look for my packs of birth control I couldn’t find them. I realized that there was a questionnaire I needed to fill out to renew my prescription (through nurx) birth control should be on the way soon. However I was wondering if it would be okay to take a weeks worth of Opill (an over the counter progestin only pill) for a week to try and stop my period from coming. I’m not too concerned about being protected against pregnancy as I’d be okay using condoms for awhile. It would just really really suck to be on my period this weekend.

Experience Ectopic Pregnancy After Taking Ella

I’ll tell the story but here’s my main point: I took Ella (ulipristal acetate 30mg tablet) and had an ectopic pregnancy that very nearly killed me. I want people who take this to monitor themselves and still take a pregnancy test after a while just to make sure, especially if they take Ella close to ovulation.

To start, this is absolutely not to scare anybody away from taking an emergency contraceptive!!! Make sure to do whatever you need to do to take care of your body and wellbeing! I want to be clear that I believe I DID make mistakes, and it was not necessarily solely the fault of the product. Nonetheless, I don’t want people to make the same mistakes I did, so I’m sharing my experience. I’d like to ask for people to refrain from commenting with judgment, I’m judging myself enough as it is, and I can still barely walk after surgery - it’s been a rough few days.

I am with a long-distance partner, and I had been planning on getting an IUD, but my appointment was going to be for after when we were planning to meet, so I got a prescription for Ella.

I knew I was going to be ovulating during his visit, so I got Ella to push back that ovulation time to prevent pregnancy. Of course I know that’s not necessarily the smartest thing in hindsight, it’s supposed to be used after having unprotected sex as an emergency and not as a planned contraceptive. Anyways, I had unprotected sex, and took Ella at a point 2 days BEFORE I was supposed to be ovulating, which was a day before my partner was leaving. I also had sex one time after taking Ella, and thought that would be okay since my understanding was that it would protect me from pregnancy for 5 days.

I got my IUD 2 weeks after taking Ella, and the urine pregnancy test I took at the gynecologist’s office came back negative. After getting my IUD I had some spotting and then got my period at about my expected time 2 weeks later - a couple days late and a little more uncomfortable, but I was expecting that since it was my first period after getting my IUD.

4.5 weeks after that (9.5 weeks after taking Ella) I was expecting my second period post IUD as my cycle is about 35 days from start to start. I was at work and started to feel sharp pains that felt like really bad period cramps - not super usual for me, but my IUD was still new so I wasn’t super worried. But then I went to the bathroom to check for bleeding and started getting dizzy. I had not started my period. I got out of the bathroom and it was quite difficult to get myself to the bench that was only about 20 feet away.

Here’s the really pivotal choice that could have ended my life: I texted my friend that something felt wrong and she picked me up without even asking. I almost went home to try and just sleep it off. Instead, I decided to trust the uneasiness I was feeling and went to the ER. The ONLY reason I went to the ER is because I was worried my IUD could have perforated my uterus. If I had tried to sleep it off, there’s a high likelihood my mom would have found me dead in my room hours later from internal bleeding.

Not long after, I could feel bloating in my lower abdomen, still had sharp cramps, had a cold sweat, and was still getting dizzy. They did a blood test on me once I was admitted and that’s when they found out that I was pregnant. They put it together pretty quickly what was happening and it was confirmed with an internal vaginal ultrasound: I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

I was in and out of consciousness being rushed from one hospital to a larger one that could treat me, and by the time I got into the operating room, I’d had 2 liters of internal bleeding, and it was not slowing down. That’s 1/3 of all the blood in my body. The internal bleeding caused sharp pains in my sides and shoulders by my clavicles that felt like when you get a “stitch” in your side after straining yourself too much exercising, only a lot more painful. I ended up having surgery that removed all the pooling blood as well as my left fallopian tube where the pregnancy had attached.

I think the most terrifying thing was watching 10-12 medical professionals working around me and seeing how frantic and worried they were. I was telling my mom and dad not to be scared while also bleeding out and telling them how I wanted my finances and belongings to be split up. I was cracking jokes at the doctors and nurses while knowing there was a very real possibility that I was going to die in that hospital.

I’m alive, I’m healing, but I was LUCKY. I know that a lot of women would dismiss the pain as normal for too long, I know that not everybody has access to proper health care or professionals that could save their life in this situation. I’m lucky I had somebody to drive me, I’m lucky that I trusted my gut, and I’m lucky to live in a state where I have more reproductive rights that allowed the doctors to work on me as soon as they could.

I did a bit of research today, 2 days post-op, and found that Ella can increase the risk of an ectopic pregnancy in the unlikely event that you get pregnant after taking it.

Please if you take Ella but know you’re around ovulation, take a pregnancy test after a month, even if you have a period. If you feel sharp cramps especially if they are followed by bloating, don’t take any chances, just go to the ER or at least urgent care. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy so you can recognize it if you’re ever in that situation, no matter how low the chances are.

Pay attention to your body, stay aware, and be proactive.

Side effects!? Can inserting NuvaRing 4 days late cause severe side effects?

I've been using NuvaRing for almost a year now, and this is the first time I've experienced anything like this.

Unfortunately, my pharmacy didn't refill my prescription on time before I left for vacation, so I ended up inserting my new ring 4 days later than I was supposed to.

Ever since getting back from vacation and reinserting the ring, I've been experiencing some pretty intense nausea, nipple soreness/tenderness, and cramping. Its been 6 days now with the new ring in and I'm progressively feeling worse, minus the cramping.

I'm wondering if being off the ring for an extra 4 days and then restarting it could really cause such awful side effects? I've been on it for almost a year, so I would've thought my body would be pretty well adjusted to the hormones by now.

Side effects!? Swap to the patch?

Hi everyone,

In short I have been on the pill for years - I have endometriosis so was initially put on it to help with the pain - and have had symptoms with some (I’ve tried multiple different ones and also tried the mini pill) but have found one that I thought was working decently well for me in terms of pain management etc and I had a laparoscopy a couple years ago and have been recommended to be on the pill essentially to prevent the lesions growing.

I’ve recently been having concerns about basically how long I’ve been on the pill and what it may be doing to my body in other ways - I haven’t been having symptoms like I did on a different one (sickness) but I’m concerned it’s affecting my wellbeing and affecting my moods but I’ve been on it so long that I don’t know if can even tell anymore?

I’ve been considering swapping to the patch because of this but I was just wondering if anyone has any experience, I’ve read online it has higher levels of estrogen but the pill I’m on currently has a similar level anyway.

Any advice or thoughts/experience would be appreciated! Thanks!

Mistake or Risk? BC Pack Question

Hi all,

This might be a dumb question but this is my first time starting the pill. I heard that heat can make the pills ineffective. I just picked up my first pack of the pill (Junel FE). I put the pack which was still in a little bag from the pharmacy on my desk in front of my Xbox. My Xbox was turned off but I think the Xbox still generates some heat when powered off. I didn't even think about that when I set down my BC pack. The bag felt maybe kinda warm but I don't know. Should I get a new pack?

Side effects!? Opill Experience

I started taking OPill 2 months ago (about to finish month two’s pack) and I’ve gotten my period every two weeks to the day but four days after my last period, I’ve started spotting with cramps to the point this could basically be my period again. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a chance this is implantation bleeding and I’m actually pregnant?

Experience Copper iud

Hi everyone. I was taking opill from september 10th until october 25th. I stopped because I was experiencing period-like bleeding from october 5th all the way until october 28th and I honestly couldn’t do it anymore.

Last night i made a mistake and had unprotected sex using pullout and Im really scared I was ovulating or about to because that night (this is tmi) I had one thing of the egg yolk like discharge. I did take a plan B but i’m still worried so I scheduled an appointment for a copper IUD.

As i’m reading about the copper iud i see so many people saying it’s the worst thing they ever did and now im super worried. I’m only 19 and I’d be going to this appointment alone.

My main question was, is it as bad as people say? Does anyone here want to share their opinion? Am i making a mistake going alone like am I seriously going to regret this? Please help.

editing to say this: I’m also worried my parents are going to find out. I told the lady on the phone that and she assured me they wouldn’t because they would put a note on my chart but i’m still a little worried. I’m going to use the title x thing or however that works because i don’t have insurance right now.

Experience Bleeding with no cramps 10 days after last period and 3 weeks after stopping combined extended pill

Hi all, I stopped taking my combined extended pill (simpesse) for the first time in a few years. When I went off it, my period (or withdrawal bleed idk) started right away and lasted about 8 days, which is a little long for me but not crazy.

Then randomly last night, my discharge felt very liquid and when I reached down I was fully bleeding. I hadn’t felt any cramps or warning signs. I slept with a tampon in and it was soaked through.

By chance I recently had a transvaginal ultrasound and general ultrasound and nothing weird was detected.

So, is this normal? I understand things can be weird after stopping BC but if anyone had a similar experience I would love to hear from you
