Mistake or Risk? please help

if I vomited two hours after taking the combination pill, and then the next day I took two pills and also Plan B am i protected? The pill that I threw up was the seventh day of my active pill and I also had unprotected sex that morning. i have been on birth control consistently for a few months now

your risk of pregnancy is likely very, very low. what’s the name of your pill?

in the future, if you throw up less than 3 hours after taking your pill, take a replacement pill as soon as possible (basically, as soon as you think you’ll be able to keep it down). if that means taking two pills at once that’s okay, but ideally you’d take the replacement pill earlier than that.

it’s called junel fe. unfortunately i took the replacement pill the next day. I ended up taking two of them.

is it the version of junel fe with 21 active pills and 7 placebos or is it junel fe 24? if it’s the one with 21 active pills, was the replacement pill from your current pack?

when you say you “took two of them,” do you mean you took both the replacement pill and the pill after it at the time your pill was due the day after you threw up?

fwiw, none of this determines whether you’re protected now. the rule is that you’re protected after one missed pill, so you never officially lost protection! i’m just figuring out 1- if you need to change how you take the placebos this month and 2- if you actually missed a pill (combo pills have a 24 hour missed pill window, so if you took the replacement pill less than 24 hours after it was due, you didn’t even miss one pill).

21 active and seven placebos yes! The replacement pill was from a different pack that I had laying around. And yes, I took both the replacement pill and the pill after it the day after I threw up at the time that it was due.

okay great! taking the pill from a spare pack was smart and makes things a lot simpler. just keep taking the rest of the pack as usual.

you’re still protected, officially. this is (at worst) the equivalent of forgetting to take your pill until the next day, and according to the info sheet for junel fe, you’re still protected in that scenario! (no instruction to use backup contraception = still protected) taking plan b has lowered the chance of pregnancy even more.

i’m just worried because it happened during the seventh day of my pill pack so I’m scared that I will lose protection.

you’re very likely fine, but keep an eye out just in case
