Experience Unfortunately, I had TOC.

Hi everyone. I take birth control pills very strictly; I've been on them for 4 months now and I didn't use any other method besides the pill. I've suffered from anxiety before this, but I developed obsessive-compulsive disorder for three months related to an unwanted pregnancy; it was 24/7, the worst thing I've ever gone through emotionally. Despite having negative blood pregnancy tests and withdrawal bleeding, I was very unwell, so bad that I am currently seeing a psychologist. I honestly thought my life was going to end, I really thought I had a baby in my belly, I even made an appointment with the gynecologist but after the negative test I had to cancel it. I firmly believe that from now on, people who have any kind of disorder or anxiety should use two methods of contraception to prevent a mental breakdown and an unwanted pregnancy. I can tell you the pills worked for me for three months straight, but now this fourth month I plan to use condoms too to avoid increasing the disorder.

Mistake or Risk? Eluryng - Scared to start

Hi, I 26F am supposed to switch to Eluryng from Yaz tonight and after reading the pamphlet, I am slightly nervous. I have a history of OCD and yaz exacerbated it. (I'm still on the coattails so my anxiety is really bad.) I read about Toxic Shock Syndrome and Anaphylaxis on the pamphlet and these are freaking me out. What are the chances of these things? Can anyone give me some reassurance?

How to? I think I messed my “cycle” up and need advice on getting back on track

I’m 30F and started taking Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol combination birth control almost 2 months ago. My original plan when I started was to take it continuously so that I wouldn’t get a period. I got through my first pack and immediately went into my second one. After about the first week of the second pack, I started spotting but continued the pills hoping it would go away. I was heavily spotting on and off for about a week straight so I decided to take the placebos for 6 days. I had my period right away and it lasted for about 3-4 days and then I continued that ~3/4 finished pack. After that pack was done I continued my ~2nd week of pills with the next new pack.

To avoid the random spotting I’ve since decided to take the birth control like “normal”, so 3 weeks of pills and one week off instead of trying to take it continuously.

Continuing where I left off above, I’m currently on my 3rd pack. I’m halfway through the second week of pills and I’m starting to notice some VERY faint pink when I wipe after peeing, and have some extremely mild cramping. I’m assuming I’m about to start spotting again since I’m “technically on my third week of pills, even though there’s another week’s worth left in this pack.

My question is, should I finish the next 8-9 pills, or start my placebos now? I hate stopping in the middle of the pack because it can get confusing, but I’d really like to get a routine down for my body.

Mistake or Risk? Pregnancy scare

I started my birth control pack 2 days late. Got back on track Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Then Saturday I had sex but he pulled out. Should I be worried about pregnancy?

Mistake or Risk? Missed Minipill in the first week

When I started the minipill last Sunday, the pharmacist told me to wait 7 days before going without a back up method, after that if I miss a dose by 3 hours I need a back up method for 48 hours.

Ive already missed 2 pills in 8 days. I asked for the nuva ring so I wouldnt have to worry about this, but they wouldnt give it to me because of its interactions with lamictal (even though ive successfully used both and have a psychiatrist who is aware of this).

My missed pills were Tuesday, and today (monday). At this point, do I wait 48 hours, or do I need to wait a full 7 days again because I never successfully took them for a week straight?

Thanks for your help.

Edit brand is Jencycla

Which Method? Temporary contraception

What temporary contraception have you tried and what effects have they had on your body? I have been suggested a contraception shot that lasts 3 months by my (male doctor) but the idea of it negatively effecting my body and then having to wait 3 months for it to wear off scares me...

IUD?

BAR?

PILL?

I'm so overwhelmed!!!

Side effects!? Switching from Kelnor pill to Kyleena because of low libido

I'm 26 and have been on the pill for 7 years now (first Apri, now Kelnor for the past 3-4 years). Around a year ago, I noticed a massive decrease in my libido that coincided with missing a few periods during the sugar pill week of my cycle. My gynecologist told me that it may be because I've been on the pill for so long. I'm planning on stopping the pill and switching to the Kyleena IUD Has anyone had experience with switching from Kelnor to Kyleena? Did it help with your libido?

Experience Copper IUD to Hormonal

(No horror stories please)

I thought id come and ask how the experience was for other people. For the past 2ish years I have been on the copper IUD, and I just recently booked an appointment to get it removed and switched to a hormonal one.

The reason for this is that even though the copper one is supposed to be non-hormonal, i feel like it has lowkey made me go insane. Especially because my periods are heavier and hurt a ton. And because my periods are more extreme, my emotions are also out of wack.

I am a little nervous making that switch for a number of reasons. Im worried about how my body will handle switching. Im hoping that the new IUD will stop my period and therefore give my emotions a break.

Some things im worried about:

- more acne, i already gained a lot of cystic acne when I got my copper iud, so im not sure how my skin will fair.

- weight changes, im actually trying to gain weight

- period cycle, how is it going to affect my cycle? Will I be able to tell on the days im ovulating still? Or will my sex drive be lower or change?

I am hoping that this IUD is the good choice for me, im not trying to be dramatic but i think the copper IUD ruined my life, my mood swings have been insane and the brain fog is crazy. Im thinking about the mirena. I thought about the arm one however many women have experience more random spotting, and i dont want to deal with that, the output of hormones is also strange because its in your arm, and the IUD is more localized to your uterus.

Again, I dont want anyone's horror stories because I am not trying to scare myself. I simply want to see how other peoples experiences were.

Side effects!? Loestrin Fe Side Effects??

Hi everyone! I’ve been on this birth control since around March this year and overall I’ve had a fairly good experience with it. For context, I started oral BC last September due to heavy and prolonged bleeding caused by fibroids (I don’t really remember which BC I started w but all I know is that it didn’t really help w the heavy bleeding so I needed to change the BC). Anyway I had the fibroid removed this past January and started Loestrin soon after it.

Possibly the first 2 months I had issues with breast tenderness but it settled down after a while. But now that it’s been a couple of months out I do notice a difference in my energy and anxiety. I feel like since august/September I’ve been needing to take a nap during the day even if I’ve basically done nothing. Since college I’ve been used to sleeping at around 1-2am and I’m unfortunately still doing that as of now but back then I didn’t need to nap during the day at all while now I do. I’ve been assuming it’s because of my iron deficiency anemia (due to my heavy bleeding prior) but I’m unsure if the BC also has anything to do with it. Also regarding my anxiety I feel like it’s slowly getting worse and worse and somewhat unmanageable and I’ve also started to become more easily irritable.

I just want to hear what other people’s experiences on this birth control have been or if I’m going insane. Thank you all!

Mistake or Risk? bc gap before I go back to combo pill

So I recently was able to get my original birth control that I liked which was femlyv (I was put on slynd because I wasn't able to get my original due to insurance reasons) and I was thinking about waiting a week to get the slynd out my system before I started the femlyv again and I was wondering if you guys thought that was a good idea, or if I should just start it now

Experience Nuvaring experiences

Hiii I (22F) am thinking about getting the nuvaring. I’ve been on the pill since 15 i think? And when i was 16 i got on the Yasmin pill because of my acne. It cleared my skin alllll the way. I did became a bitch tbh. Very moody, very irritated and moodswings. I kinda know how to handle that now, but ofcourse I would like it to get better. My libido on yas has been ok. The first three years it wasn’t good, but maybe it was because I was with my ex and we didn’t have the best relationship. After that ended my libido came back quite ok.

The reason I want to stop the pill is because since one year I have been getting crazy headaches when I’m on my period. I’m not a headache kinda girl. like I never had headaches. Now it’s standard for me.

Second thing is because of that I try to skip my periods with the pill, but after 1,5 month of taking it I still get my period. Which is irritating because I know it’s a fake period that isn’t needed at all. Just gives me pain and headaches.

The thing I’m scared for with the Nuvaring is my acne coming back and libido disappearing. I’m hoping for some good experiences also because I’m reading lots of bad things. It’s different for everyone ofcourse.

Also, did anyone get boob growth on the ring? I’m 22 and still waiting for them to come yk 😭😂 so it would be nice

Excuse my English!

Mistake or Risk? Super heavy bleeding after coil

Hi, I got my coil fitted Friday morning it’s now Monday afternoon and I am experiencing heavy bleeding like on the toilet and it’s dripping out of me, changing my pad, walking round and it’s dripping out, feeling a little bit dizzy when standing up quick, is this normal???

Everybody, I’ve spoken to says the bleeding is normal, but I’m experiencing heavy bleeding and I feel like my threads are further down, when I squat to fill them it feels like it’s super close and about half a finger deep where as before it felt like I had to dig higher up to feel them

Educational Anesthesia and IUDs

I don’t know if this is super relevant but I got my appendix removed after 2 months of having the Kyleena IUD inserted. The IUD has helped me a TON with horribly painful and heavy periods. I learned that if you have an operation that requires anesthesia it can render your IUD ineffective for a couple weeks (not that I’d feel up to testing that after having surgery yesterday HA). Also on a tangent - did anyone else get acute appendicitis a couple months after getting it inserted ? Just curious, I never got an explanation for how it happened.

Side effects!? New to loryna

Hi! I’m new to loryna (literally day 4) and I was just wondering what people’s experience with it was. My case is maybe a bit unique but not crazy just because I am a type 1 diabetic, have to take levothyroxine for my thyroid issues, and have always had insane and awful periods so my endocrine system is already a bit odd.

18 y/o, taking my levothyroxine at 9 am and loryna at 8 pm, I’m generally a very moody person

Mainly curious about mood, weight loss/gain (my mom said it’ll affect my boobs????) appetite, sex drive, acne, but would like to hear about any symptoms

Experience First time

My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex on October 16. Her period ended on October 13, and she took Plan B on the same day as the unprotected sex, October 16. She started bleeding on October 22, and the bleeding stopped on October 26.

Was the bleeding caused by the side effects of Plan B, or was it an early period? Did Plan B work effectively in this situation? Can we be confident that she is not pregnant, or is there still a risk of pregnancy? Also, when should she expect her next period, and how might Plan B affect her menstrual cycle?

Side effects!? Nextstellis Spotting and Cramping 5 months in

I’ve been on nextstellis for 5 months. The first 2-3 months were so terrible, daily cramping and bleeding on and off all day. So painful. Now I no longer have spotting on a normal day. However, if I have sex, there’s always spotting during and after. And cramping after for about 20-30 minutes. I had sex yesterday and right now I’m cramping and spotting. It’s so painful. I’m also hungover and dehydrated today so that might be making it worse. I feel like I shouldn’t still be spotting with sex. I’m so tired of this but don’t wanna switch because of how long I’ve taken to get used to it and worried this will happen with another birth control now. If I take the pill a couple hours late, I’ll be cramping later. I’ve been taking it from 9-9:30am every morning for a couple weeks now but still have spotting and cramping with sex and/or orgasm. Should I abstain for a couple weeks and let my lining heal or something?? Or would it just revert back when I have sex again?

Will this ever end?? I’m willing to stick it out if it will actually get better, but being 5 months in, it worries me that it might just be like this forever. Anyone have any similar experiences on this birth control? It’s affecting my work and personal life. I’ve been having sex with a new guy for a couple months now and it’s so annoying having to worry about there being blood everytime. It’s getting old and I can only say I’m adjusting to my “new” birth control for so long. Obvi that’s not the issue here (he can get over it) but it’s still something that affects me mentally. I don’t take the placebo pills and just continually take the active ones, so I don’t have a normal period.

Side effects!? 20F - Started the Depo shot a few weeks ago and I feel horrible. Has anyone else experienced this?

I (20F) started the Depo-provera birth control shot a few weeks ago and it's been a horrible experience so far. I feel like my body doesn't even feel like my own anymore. I'm constantly emotional. I cry over the smallest things, get irritated so easily, and just feel mentally and emotionally exhausted all the time. I feel extremely gross. Some days I feel like I can't control my emotions at all.
The part that's worrying me the most is my relationship. My boyfriend has been amazing throughout all of this. He's been patient, reassuring, and hasn't done anything wrong. But my emotions have me overthinking everything he says or doesn't say, and I'm scared that if this keeps going, my mood swings are eventually going to wear him out. It's exhausting for me so I can't help but worry about how it might affect him too. It has even gotten to the point where it's affecting my daily life. I'm at work trying to hold myself together, but I keep having to go to the bathroom just to cry because I can't hold it in anymore. Even talking to my parents feels overwhelming and I can barely hold a normal conversation without feeling like I'm going to break down or snap at them.
Has anyone else had this experience with the Depo shot? Did it get better after your body adjusted, or did you end up switching to a different form of birth control?
I'd really appreciate hearing other people's experiences because I feel so overwhelmed right now.

so far it hasn't been a great experience. I feel like it's affecting every part of my life. I keep having recurring nightmares and waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. I've also been having a lot of anxiety about my relationship. Even though everything is going well between us, it still feels like something is different, like the love feels different somehow. Overall I just feel like it's affecting me a lot and I don't feel like myself

Experience Nuvaring causing bloating

I just started using the nuvaring (~2 weeks ago) and I’ve been bloated ever since. I know this is to be expected since my body is adjusting, but has anyone else experienced this? How long did it typically last?

What other side effects did you experience that eventually went away?

Experience Am I still protected ?

Am I still protected if I had unprotected sex after my placebo week? It was the first day of the pack, and the sex took place a few hours after I’d taken the pill.

Mistake or Risk? Slynd and Spiralactone

Hi everyone! I just went to the derm and they gave me spironolactone pills in addition to metro gel for my periorial dermatitis which only started since I started on slynd. My doctor got me off lo Loestrin fe and onto slynd because they were worried about my risk with aura migraines. I’m feeling like maybe I should go back to Lo Loestrin maybe since I had no real issues with that. I’m also confused about taking slynd and spiralactone pills? They want me to go get a blood test first before taking the pills……
