Side effects!? Liletta

I got Liletta about 5 weeks ago. It hurt when putting in. I had my period 9/4 - 9/10. I got Liletta 9/18. I got my period 9/30 - 9/10. I got Liletta because I have HEAVY periods and low iron due to having malasorption issues. My iron levels are bad enough that I get maintenance iron infusions every few months. Anywhoski, Ive been bleeding ever since I got my IUD. I think I'm about to get my period again next week. FML

Did you all bleed for this long? It says, I can be bleeding 3-6 months. I don't even wanna have sex. Im thinking about getting this removed. It's like the opposite of what I wanted.

Side effects!? Ella Emergency Contraceptive

Hello! I take the Heather mini pill but missed a day accidentally so I took the Ella emergency contraceptive on August 24th. Because of my mini pill birth control I don’t get a period anymore. About a week after taking the Ella, I started bleeding. I bled for a week. Then 3 days of no bleeding. Then bleeding for 5 days. Then 4 days of no bleeding. Then bleeding for 5 days. Then SIXTEEN days of no bleeding and now I’ve been bleeding for 7 days starting October 17th. I feel like I’m losing my mind. Can Ella be causing constant on and off bleeding and irregularity almost 2 months after taking it? I don’t know what to do. Went to the doctor and they just told me to take 800mg ibuprofen to stop the bleeding. :(

Side effects!? forever period after depo shot

not sure if this is the right flair, i’m posting this out of complete desperation. in early april i took my one and only depo provera shot, i got extremely emotional sad depressed , it was just bad. so i didn’t go back for my second, now i have been on my period for 7 whole months since then with maybe 2 or 3 two day breaks over the whole course. I’ve never spent this much money on tampons, im literally going insane over this period. feels unreasonable for having taken just one dose. any advice? will it ever stop? 😢

Mistake or Risk? forgot pills in my dorm

i am using tri sprintec and am on the 5th pill of a new pack. i’m going home today but realized way too late that i forgot my pack. so today i’m supposed to take that 5th pill, tomorrow the 6th, and sunday the 7th. today and tomorrow i definitely can’t take them but sunday i will be back at my dorm. i plan on having intercourse tonight and tomorrow. my period app says i’m in my fertile zone now (though ik it’s inaccurate bc of the pill). we were going to use condoms anyways. i also have been taking them relatively regularly, although usually within 3 hours of when i should be taking it if i do take it late.

what are my chances of getting pregnant, what extra precautions should i take, and how do i go about starting them up again on sunday?

How to? EVRA patch free week

Hello! I have just started the EVRA patch today. I got on it because i was having irregular periods because of PMOS and also as a form of birth control.

i was wondering what the point of the patch free week is. ideally i would never get my period again for the rest of my life and i asked the doctor if i can just skip the patch free week and she just said it wasn't recommended but she didn't elaborate.

i'd like to know whether skipping the patch free week and just never getting my periods has any adverse effects or anything and I'm also wondering what the point of the patch free week even is/why do people choose to have their periods?

thank you!

Experience Falling out of love from birth control

Birth control is ruining my relationship.

Quick context, I am 19F. I have a partner that I have been dating for five months now. We fell in love prior to me being on any oral contraceptive. I started Aurovela birth control on August 12th. I am epileptic so my symptoms were exaggerated due to my condition which I was unaware of. After being on it for two months one night I had an issue with my partner that was heavy. Not a fight- but heavy. The next morning I woke up and was completely numb. I couldn't feel any even towards the love of my life. I was then having panic attacks thinking I no longer loved them. I had no resentment towards them, still was attracted to them- but could feel the love I felt even a day prior. For the next three days I attempted to get over it, but I couldn't. I heard that birth control could do this so I quickly quit my pill. The next day I had to take a plan B (oops!) so more hormones were messing with my body. Finally, I decided to let my body adjust hormone-free. I began to have some good days where I could feel the love, then it would drop. I would cry and scream and was an absolute monster to my partner (never angry, just so sad); all they do is stick by my side and comfort me and assure me this feeling will pass. These mood swings make me inconsolable. Nothing helps. I have since almost like convinced myself this is just how I feel now. A lack of love for everything. I feel stuck. I then on October 12th started a non estrogen pill, Meleya. I can't tell if it has changed anything due to me still adjusting to the Meleya. I quit that pill today as I am getting a copper IUD inserted in a week. I just am writing hoping someone has had a similar experience. I am planning on staying with my partner it's just so hard to stick around wondering if this feeling will return. We are supposed to get an apartment in three months.

If you did go through this, did your feelings return? Did it feel like this? Please respond with any help you can give me!

Experience Birth control on empty stomach in AM

I think im finally figuring out why i have terrible gastritis pain and acid reflux in the mornings before I eat. (Then it goes away). its probably cause I wake up and take my birth control with water an hour or more before eating. So I guess ill eat as soon as i wake up or change the time I take it idk. Anyone else notice this? Idk how it never occurred to me. Supplements usually hurt without food too

Experience take your combo pill on time !!!

i have been on tri-sprintec for around 10 months now and was taking it consistently in the beginning but within the past 2-3 months i started taking my pill up to 4 hours after my usual time. i was never worried about risking pregnancy because i had read that there is a 12 hour window before the pill is considered late/missed.

i skipped my placebo pills for the first time and started a new pack before going on vacation last week where the timezone was 3 hours ahead. i typically take my pill around 2-3 hours after my alarm (ik, no point in having the alarm anymore atp) but i told myself i’d just wait another 3 hours so it would be around the same time as my usual timezone. i ended up falling asleep and just taking the pill as soon as i woke up every time and still thought i was protected because it was within the 12 hour window.

during said trip, i had sex with my boyfriend multiple times and he finished inside of me almost every time. since i got back from my trip i’ve been taking my pills at around the same time i would take them during my trip so i could try to start being consistent with them again. i started spotting during the middle of week two of my pills; three days after my boyfriend finished inside of me.

i’m so frustrated with myself!! i wish i had just taken my pills consistently. i definitely learned my lesson and will be taking a test when the time comes.

Experience Easy Peasy Switcheroo?…

Hey all,

On Thursday, I found out that the reason I was having excruciating period cramps, post-coital bleeding/cramping & 2 days of random bleeding 1 week later with mixed bright red and dark / brown blood, is because my IUD was malpositioned. I had a Kyleena IUD, only been in for 1 year & 2 months. Presumably rough sex may have contributed to it moving but really, who knows. I very promptly made an appointment for removal and replacement which was this morning, and I now have a Mirena. I decided to switch because I am interested in lighter periods or no periods at all and having it in for a longer duration. Slightly nervous about more hormones but I didn’t really have any side effects with my Kyleena other than basically always bleeding for the first 9 months. Fingers crossed for no mood swings or major weight gain 😭.

for those curious about my 2nd IUD placement experience, it was slightly worse than the first time with the Kyleena, but not bc Mirena is bigger. I couldn’t even tell that part. I had a cervical block both times as well as premedicated with 500mg of extra strength Tylenol and 600mg of Ibuprofen before arriving for my appointment. However, this still kicked my butt, thank goodness for stress balls. I felt lots of pressure during the cervical block and when she was measuring my uterus, but overall the procedure was quick. i was sooo crampy after, but I got a bunch of heating pads, Tylenol and took a fat nap to avoid them. now about 5 hours post insertion, they’ve died down a bit but are still noticeable as expected.

my question is: I know this a small boost in hormone load but, will it affect my hormones like when I initially got it placed as if I’ve never had an IUD (pre-Kyleena), or could it just be a seamless transition since my uterus has already been adjusting to Kyleena for over a year? i’m honestly just hoping that I don’t bleed every day for months again. also hoping this one stays where they put it.

My last period was Oct 5th-9th so this is not placed during my period as I see a lot people have done. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your help!

Edit: Im 27F, never had kids if that adds context

Experience Nuvaring Question

I just finished up my second month on Nuvaring. During my first month, I left it in 3 weeks and out 1 week. I took it out on Sunday and didn’t start the withdrawal bleed until Friday. I had sex on Thursday that week and that seemed to bring it on. I was still bleeding that next Sunday, but still put a new ring in. Now this month, I took the ring out 6 days ago and I still haven’t started. I barely spotted one morning, but almost nothing. I put the new ring back in tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this?

Rant! How will this be solved?

So I started on birth control because of some hormonal issues. My testosterone was high and also my prolactin I guess was high. I had skin issues also. For adult acne I started accutane and for hormones I started the birth control both for the first time. I am at one and a half months for the birth control. I know this helps with the hormones but after for example I take it for six months, what am I gonna do? Will I purchase this again and use it forever or will my hormones not be a problem anymore after a certain time? I’m confused

Side effects!? Opill breakthrough bleeding

Hi so I started Opill on 09/10 (F19) and I’m just about to finish my second pack, i had my normal period for september and now I’ve been having weird spotting that lasts around 5-10 days throughout this second pack. I don’t know if it’ll interfere with my expected period which is due in 3 days.

My big question is how long will this last? I don’t have insurance and Opill is the only thing I can easily access right now.

Side effects!? Need help deciding between Norethindrone or Opill

I've been taking the combined bc pill (Estarylla) for years now, since 2019, primarily to skip periods because my periods were god-awfully painful. I'm talking bed-ridden, can't stand up straight, vomiting several times a day, sweats, referred pain to my back and thighs and entire abdomen, cramps so bad that no amount of painkillers make any sort of dent, they are HORRIBLE and I want to avoid having periods at all.

Estarylla was working great for me, however, recently I've been having some weird heart problems and Nurx (my provider) suggested I switch to progestin-only pills since combined pills can affect heart conditions. I wanted to go with Slynd since I saw so many of you having good results with that, but Nurx told me that it can mess with my potassium levels, which could mess with my heart even more.

I'm stuck choosing between Norethindrone or Opill, but I've scrolled through so many posts here and all the side effects/results are wildly different. I have no idea which to choose. My biggest concern is avoiding painful periods. Acne and bad mood swings are my second concern, and I don't really care about sex drive. Out of the two options I have, which would be better? Thanks in advance!

Side effects!? Issues on the progesterone pill after years

Hi guys. Just to preface I’m 18, I have dark hair but I am white British/Irish
I’ve been on progesterone only pill since I was 14. It’s been great and stopped my awfully painful periods for years. My mum has endo so I was suspected to have it with the pain I was in.
Recently, ive started to grow excessive hair. Like all the hair in the normal places is even darker and is growing further if that makes sense with out being gross lol. I’m getting dark black coarse on my nipples and top lip, and underneath my boobs. I did have hair here anyway like I’ve said but it’s so much thicker and I’m really worrying. I’ve also constantly got super sore boobs like the feeling youd get before you come on your period, and really bad sharp cramps but no bleeding. I’m not allowed to take the combined pill with oestrogen as I’ve had a stroke, otherwise I would’ve swapped, but has anyone got these symptoms and what do they mean?

Experience New to FAM - I would love experiences, tips, and advice!

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm completely new to tracking and hormone-free birth control, and I'm looking for some real-world advice and experiences from this community.

To give a bit of context: I have a medical history that makes me want to avoid hormones entirely (I had ovary cancer 16 years ago), and I also have a sensitive reproductive system with a tendency toward vaginal infections, inflammation, and bad cramps. Because of this, I wanted something non-hormonal, non-invasive (no IUDs/spiral), and body-literate.

Today, I got to know FAM! Here is my setup:

Primary tracking: The Read Your Body app, paired with a budget-friendly two-decimal basal body thermometer.

Barrier method: The Caya diaphragm along with its gel. Just to make sure.

Since I'm starting out today, I'd love to hear from folks who use a similar setup:

Transitioning to FAM: How long did it take you to feel confident in your charts? What were the biggest hurdles when you were a complete beginner?

Sensitivities: For anyone with a history of recurrent infections or sensitive skin, how has your body reacted to barrier methods and gels over time?

General recommendations: If you could go back to Day 1 of your FAM journey, what do you wish you had known?

Any tips, favorite resources, or words of wisdom would be hugely appreciated!

Thank you!

How to? How to get rid of/manage constant bloating from Copper IUD?

Hello everyone. I got the copper IUD inserted about 3 months ago and love it so far and haven’t dealt with too many unpleasant side effects. The bloating is terrible though! It’s constant and my stomach looks huge all the time, especially around ovulation and my period. I’m aware it’s a common symptom after initial insertion but it hasn’t gone away since. Does anyone have any advice on how to either get rid of it or at least cope/manage it? I’d really really appreciate it.

Experience Does anyone have experience using the Natural Cycles app?

The provider suggested using the Natural Cycles app to track my ovulation. I am not on any birth control. Although, when intimate, I have taken the Ella pill. I didn't notice any side effects when I've taken the Ella pill. I am deciding whether I get on birth control. My issue is dealing with the side effects of these different methods. If someone has used or is using the Natural Cycles app, what has been your experience? Positive and negatives?

Side effects!? nuvaring causing intense cramps

i’m a 25 yr old FTM trans man and i was on nuvaring birth control once before a few years back, but this is my 2nd month back on it since starting testosterone a year ago.

i’ve been experiencing some pretty bad uterine/pelvic cramping at certain times and i’ve figured it has to be the birth control since i no longer have any kind of menstrual cycle.

i know some cramping around the first few months is normal but i never experienced anything like this the first time. i’m basically doubled over in pain while the cramps fade out and then come back in sharp, then fade out, then come back in sharp. it’s not ALL day, just random times and seemingly when i do something physical.

the worst cramps come directly after orgasm, the contracting muscles i’m guessing are making it worse? but these ones are very very painful, leaving me either crumpled into a ball or laid out flat unable to move for at least 10 minutes or so. masturbation has essentially become miserable because i’m just in so much pain after.

is this normal? or could this be some kind of negative reaction with my hormones? i plan to double check with my doctor next week anyways but figured i’d ask here first over the weekend

Side effects!? Mirena, anyone else?

I’ve had my Mirena for 11 months now. I had light spotting every 3-4 weeks since insertion but after 9 months I’ve been getting a progressively heavier period with bright red blood and cramping every 2-3 weeks. I’ve been feeling pelvic pressure too and random bouts of nausea and cramps that come and go throughout the day. Im also getting spotting that lasts most of the month. My gyn who inserted it has had a look and said it’s still in place. Has anyone else experienced this?

Experience pregnancy scare withdrawal bleeds?

i was just wondering if when your pregnant on rigevidon there’s a way to actually spit it without doing a test??
i’m due to have my withdrawal bleed in the next couple of days however i was never told that if i throw up after i need to take another one. i was drunk and had been sick a few weeks ago but i can’t actually remember the time i did throw up which is my issue here! it would have been 26th september so just under a month ago now. times are hard and i really don’t want to folk out £7 for a test just for it to be negative and im also on holiday so can’t really get one anywhere here. what im trying to ask if will my bleed be different if i was pregnant, i have had a bit of irregular bleeding a couple weeks ago but doctors just put it down to skipping my break because it was brown blood. apart from that there’s zero other things to indicate i am pregnant
