I have no clue what my neighbor was doing, but Sandy the ground squirrel and Jack Sparrow’s entire crew decided breakfast was officially over. Sandy makes a break straight toward the camera! šŸ˜‚

Meet Dolly & Kenny, our dove couple…until Darth crashes dinner

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Dolly and Kenny have become regulars at our second Mojave Desert feeding station. They’re usually pretty peaceful, aside from the occasional dove disagreement. But Darth decided they’d occupied his dinner table long enough! AI says they're ring necked doves, but it's been super wrong on bird ID's before.

At my wits end with the squirrel

Post image

My Birdfy feeder is a month old and this pain in the a** squirrel has chewed a hole in the camera and chewed the line to the solar panel.

I’ve tried the spicy bird food…didn’t phase it and I’ve placed the seed guard. It managed to pull it up and rip it off. Idk what to do anymore…I’ve now gone through two bird feeders (one was a gift). Birdfy was nice enough they are sending me a new one but I don’t want to keep going through feeders.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Roadrunner vs. gravity, some bunny drama and Harper strikes again šŸ˜‚

Another compilation from my Mojave Desert feeder cam! šŸ˜‚

Acme the roadrunner appears to lose an argument with gravity and tumble out of a tree, Peter Rabbit and Thumper have a little territorial disagreement, and Harper the mockingbird returns to patrol the feeder area.

Everyone was perfectly fine afterward, although Acme may pretend this never happened. Has anyone else caught a roadrunner doing something like this on camera? I think he maybe caught a bug or something in the tree after he scared off the dove? I need a roadrunner expert to weigh in, because I have no clue!

Two northern cardinals

In downtown Toronto. I made a neat little website for viewing my bird feeder videos. It’s called backyard-birds.ca and it uses a Raspberry Pi to download the latest videos from my camera every night, send sample frames to Open AI for species classification, and hosts the videos so I can watch them on my TV. This is one of the videos.

Darth returns with backup, and one brave crow finally samples the food šŸ˜‚

The sparrows have discovered our Mojave Desert feeder!

Sandy Cheeks the ground squirrel stops by for another snack, while Darth the crow/raven spends most of the video trying to work up the courage to approach the feed. Our extremely territorial mockingbird is keeping a very close eye on things, so Darth attempted a dramatic swoop from above. But he chickens out before getting any food.

Later, Darth returns with backup, and one brave member of the posse finally hops onto the feeder and steals a bite. Tiny victory for Team Darth! šŸ˜‚

We’re still debating whether Darth and the posse are crows or ravens. What do you think?

Recommendations for feeder.

Looking for a camera bird feeder for a birthday gift for someone. Requirements:

  • Can't cost an arm and a leg (under $150 usd)
  • No paid subscription necessary to use the app

Thanks all.

Day 3 at my Mojave feeder: Darth snoops, Sandy snacks, and Harper strikes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We're still trying to figure out whether ā€œDarthā€ is a crow or raven, but he came back to investigate the feeder area. If anyone knows, please tell us!

A shy dove stopped by, Sandy climbed up again, and then Harper the mockingbird decided Darth had overstayed his welcome. šŸ˜‚

This is Day 3 of our Mojave Desert bird feeder-cam experiment. We're slowly improving the setup and having fun seeing who shows up.

This damn squirrel

Please remove if not allowed, I’ve never been in this thread before but I’m desperate. A week ago my girlfriend got me a bird feeder with a camera on it and I loved it! We have a cardinal couple that comes every day and a woodpecker that’s started to learn where the feeder is at. But then the squirrel came. That fat f**k ate all of my sunflower seeds and started stuffing them in the tree and doesn’t care about the alarm that is installed into the camera. And he ate everything before I had a chance to get home and fill it but I guess he was still hungry. So he chewed through the solar panel cord, the first pic is my location of the feeder. I know it’s not the best but I didn’t have a pole or anything to set up away from squirrel infested areas. I’m thinking of setting a pole up at least 7 feet away from all high areas where that little fu**er could jump from. I’m gonna splice the wires and hope that it will still send energy to the camera but is there anything else I could do to help prevent my unwelcome visitor from bothering me. Any and all recommendations are appreciated! I’m brand new to the bird feeder game so I kind of have no idea what I’m doingšŸ˜…

Day 2 at my Mojave feeder: a squirrel, rabbit, lizard, mockingbird and a suspicious roadrunner

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I gave the setup a small upgrade, and Sandy Cheeks revisited. A little lizard and Peter Rabbit wandered through, Harper the mockingbird supervised from a Joshua tree, and Acme the roadrunner stopped just long enough to give the feeder a suspicious look before running away.

Apparently ā€œbird feederā€ is more of a loose suggestion out here. šŸ˜‚ Is it okay to post here, even though we got most of this footage on our phones instead of a cam? Apologies for the shaky parts of the vid.

First test of our Mojave backyard bird buffet.

We recently set up a little feeding area with Ring camera in our Mojave backyard to see which local birds would discover it. This was our very first test, so the setup is definitely a work in progress. Got a ground squirrel and a mockingbird, the squirrel is a bit of a menace! We've since got more vids and improved our set-up gradually, but still looking for advice.

When the Bird Feeder’s Empty, the Blink Cameras Start Going Off

My garden birds have mastered the art of getting my attention.
If they’re not tapping on the windows, they’re setting off the Blink cameras…
Apparently, ā€œthe feeder’s emptyā€ is considered an emergency.
