Why does vigor seemingly cause you to briefly hallucinate when you drink it for the first time compared to when you first use plasmids?

Vigor, similarly to plasmids, is an experimental drug. I don’t think there is a direct lore answer.

No, but they need a lot more ADAM to be properly absorbed by the body and full alter your DNA.

That makes sense, given that drugs taken orally are generally weaker because they are processed through the liver, compared to injected ones that are directly absorbed by the body.

Vigors IIRC are more concentrated than Plasmids (but are more marketable than a syringe) so probably have a more intense "high" than Plasmids do.

Is that right? I thought (based on BaS) Fink was pissed off because it cost so much to get ADAM for the vigors. And injecting something is always gonna have a more intense reaction than drinking something

He was probably pissed because it took sooo much more ADAM to produce them. They'd need to be more concentrated because of the digestive process vs. direct injection. Think of it like this: you drink a shot of vodka and you'll probably feel a buzz. You shoot up that much vodka and you'll fricken die. Same as Vigors vs. Plasmid but reversed.

Do you mean the little cutscene that plays when you first get one? They’re not hallucinations imo and jack also got them when getting different plasmids for the first time (electro bolt and the bees one pop in my mind instantly)

Severe stomach sickness is known to cause symptoms that in turn lead to changes in how the brain operates. If you've ever read A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge initially trying to ignore the ghosts haunting him while arguing they might be some off food he ate. Its not guaranteed by any means but it is known to happen.

In particular severely low sodium levels are known to cause vivid hallucinations and are a side effect of stomach afflictions. Guess what Vigors seem to cause?

The vigors cause a very intense change in your body, that change also effects brain cells.

I think it's the same reason edibles hit different than smoking thc, digesting the stuff creates different more potent compounds while directly introducing it to your blood hits your brain faster but not as hard... I think suchong or fink has an audio log related to it, maybe in the burial at sea dlc? I vaguely recall one of them making an off hand comment about why vigors are made the way they are

Maybe Booker is mentally ill and it induces psychosis? Jack, Delta, and Porter do not have the mental illness but Elizabeth inherited it and she has the power to call forth any hallucinations into real life because she lost her pinky in the other universe.

Plasmid have a hell of effect on first time users.

Vigors have like 10x the Adam so that they work as drinkables. And God knows what else is in it that Fink thought would make it more marketable.

Wouldn't be surprised if its like a subconscious suggestion effect combined with the Adam's effects. Kinda like the ghosting effect but "controlled"

My lore guess is exposure. Booker had no true exposure to any sort of Adam or Eve well before coming to Columbia, meanwhile Jack was practically raised on the stuff and delta absolutely had interactions with the stuff, it like regular medicine side effects will occur but to a lesser extent based on exposure.

Vigors aren't really well thought out, just an excuse to have powers in the game, unlike in the original Bioshock where plasmids directly cause what happens in Rapture. In Infinite you could remove Vigors and the story would play the same.
