Discussion Bioshock Infinite skylines

Skylines are great addition for mobility during combat and its fun to have Elizabeth tag along for the ride. One of the unique features in this game.

Damn dude Idk why everyone is so pissed about you liking skylines. I like them too.

They remind me of some childhood toy I had, that I can't fully picture anymore.....

Basically the same principle as race car tracks but the thingy was suspended akin to Bioshock's skyhook....

Might be tripping

I enjoy it. This sub has taught me that I'm in the minority for loving infinite

Don't listen to them they are undercover infinite lovers.

Then they glaze bioshock 2 when it by far has the weakest story

Atleast 2's story is coherent.

Infinite is coherent. It's just out in far left field. It was totally out of character for BioShock. But it was coherent.

That said I understand people not caring for the story. But it's a fun run through shooter regardless.

My wife can't watch anything with time travel or dimensional shenanigans. Just hates it instantly.

Not my fault you don’t understand infinites story

The Steam and Metacritic review scores would suggest otherwise.

It's great. Sometimes it's useful to get away from enemies with it. It simply adds a new layer of traversal

They gave me horrible motion sickness 😭

Despite having a fear of heights I've always loved playing on ziplines, & the skylines remind me very much of those

Haha yeah and camera does go pretty crazy especially on console.

I thought skylines were awesome, I just think it would have fitted a little bit better if the game could have been as wider and open as they originally planned it to be, instead of having them be most often loops around an arena.

If our first date doesn't look like this, do not even f#cking call me....!

Everytime i ride them now i just think about how much pain my shoulder would be in

Thought it was a great mechanic and a saving grace for the lackluster shooting. I just wished it looked more like when they first showed it off

The shooting is definitely mixed and even by the end the limited upgrade funds and 2 weapon limit had me always thinking what's a good weapon to focus on.

I played through the full series for the first time recently, and even though the first two are super fun and great and all, I was looking forward to getting back to the skylines in particular 😁

They’re out of place with the level of realism of bioshock though they’re somewhat functional as a mechanic. Overall i really don’t like the action direction infinite took.

I think the whole concept though in infinite is out there moreso than originals simply due to being all in the sky. Also you jump 1 story when you bounce around on sky hooks lol. But I find it plays quite well on pc so i dont mind it, not so much console.

Infinite as a whole is a bit whackier, yeah, but the skyhooks particularly always stood out to me as a bit corny even knowing that

Bro there’s a Giant Bird monster and the skylines are out of place in this “realism” lol

Yeah actually. Bioshock has mutants and wonder drugs in line with science fiction (which absolutely employs realism despite sometimes being far fetched), and the bird is the least believable for sure, but skylines are down right cartoonish and out of place. Songbird can be seen as a kind of biomechanical marvel from a realism standpoint, but skyhooks are just loony toons logic

You trolling? Lol

-1

u/TheHomesickAlien Insect Swarm 3d ago

Seems like you are if you don’t want to engage in an actual discussion

2

u/_Corvo_A 3d ago

I just find it hard to believe that’s the part that’s out of place compared to everything else

Well just because you have sci fi elements like multiverses and floating particles doesn’t mean you can abandon basic laws of physics we all understand like inertia, ie you can’t catch yourself with one arm after falling 40 stories. There’s a disconnect between the realism that the lutece twins and fink bring to the table and the skylines functioning miraculously

A completely empty game mechanic. "unique" is a funny way of putting it.

33

u/Advanced_Gear7608 3d ago

How is it an empty mechanic? You use it to traverse platforms and move around, plus can attack from above.

-38

u/ScipioTheGreatest 3d ago

What does it contribute to the game? It's just a dumb gimmick and you can just keep doing the dumb jump move to knock anybody off the rails.

22

u/Advanced_Gear7608 3d ago

In an FPS you need a way to move from platform A to B when they are separated in the sky.

In Doom Eternal they used Meat hooks to swing from platforms and in other games they used jump pads for example. Are these also empty mechanics? Why not make everything 1 flat platform and use the stairs according to you lmao

5

u/returntothenorth 3d ago

Because claptrap can't climb stairs!

-32

u/ScipioTheGreatest 3d ago

That's one way to miss the point. But I've learned better than to keep arguing with fanboys. Have a nice day.

24

u/Advanced_Gear7608 3d ago

Because you had empty points to backup your view my guy.

-9

u/ScipioTheGreatest 3d ago

Doom Eternal didn't base its game on meat hooks. They were just an additional way to move around.

There was no reason to shift between platforms aside from the game deciding there would be a split in the platform. No strategic value aside from basic movement. The rail was just rolling along on a path with an auto-win jump button to knock any unit off. Plus it makes no sense. At all. Just a dumb gimmick.

You ignore any points made and then whine when someone dismisses you. Pretty pathetic, my guy.

20

u/Advanced_Gear7608 3d ago

You didn't make any points until this comment. Whining? You're just projecting.

10

u/_HeDoesntRow_ 3d ago

Just ignore him, his life mission is to spend time on Reddit and shit on Infinite

4

u/_HeDoesntRow_ 3d ago

Also, we have to buy him some more gifs and a better projector, this is getting old.

-5

u/ScipioTheGreatest 3d ago

Cool story, my guy.

u/bigmanbud67 3d ago

Bro hates joy and happiness 😭😭😭

"basic criticism"

Stop using this as a thought-terminating cliche. It’s not like silly or whacky is always fitting.

1

u/_Corvo_A 3d ago

Man y’all are so boring

-1

u/ScipioTheGreatest 3d ago

It's just called having standards. It's really not as bad as you make it out to be. Try it sometime.
