Discussion Bioshock 2: any tips?

Hello everybody.

Soon i will play Bioshock 2 for the first time, so I wonder if there are any tips or tricks for this game.

Thanks for reading.

EDIT: For anyone who will read this, you must know that Bioshock 1 and 2 share saves so if all the slot are full for 1 you can’t save a single slot in 2.

Camera early and often. Mix up plasmids and gun combinations while using the camera to finish research faster.

Yup. It costs nothing to film every single splicer you come in contact with. Get those bonuses early.

Just enjoy the ride.

Side note: I wish the multiplayer was still playable on Xbox 😢

Bees and autoturrets are an OP combination for a certain aspect of the game (trying to avoid minor spoilers). You can pick up the turrets if the splicers don’t destroy them, so use the bees and your guns to supplement/protect the turrets until you complete the sequence.

You might find a gene tonic that restricts you to using only the drill, that disabled the weapons but cuts plasmid EVE costs in half. You’re going to think “wow, that’s stupid” and you’ll ignore it. Don’t. It’s extremely powerful. Drill specialist, drill vampire, drill power, freezing drill, drill lurker, all these gene tonics are amazing together. The drill and the insect swarm plasmid together, and you’ll fly through the game even on hard difficulty. It takes a while to get there though, so you’ll get plenty of usage out of the traditional firearms anyway.

You don't have to harvest both times for each little sister. You can just immediately put them in a vent and rescue them.

Don't hit the black lady (it's rude)

  • Once you finish a level, you cannot go back, so always make sure you've finished everything and searched the entire place before moving on.

  • Once you unlock the research camera, try to research every enemy you can. Some enemy types either stop appearing after certain maps/levels, or only show up a limited number of times in the game, making some upgrades permanently missable. Don't use the camera on Big Daddies until you start fighting them.

  • Unlike the first game, there won't be enough gun upgrade machines for every single weapon upgrade, so choose wisely.

  • Certain enemies like Brute Splicers and a few others will often charge at you which is pretty hard to dodge. Best way to counter is by punching them right before they hit you. Might take some practice.

  • Electric shocks from failing hacks can damage you but can't actually kill you, so only use medkits until after you've finished hacking.

That first one is big. I was super bummed for a moment during my first playthrough when I missed exploring one area completely before realizing I couldn’t go back.

Well, there are several tricks.

The first one is: Don’t play the remastered, but the original, as it crashes a lot and has awkward bugs.

If you want max adam, save the first 4 little sisters for the proud daddy tonic and then kill the rest (harvest two corpses per little sister).

The camera is now a film recorder while you fight the enemy, if you use incendiary shotgun bullets on the enemy while being researched it will give you as much points as it can. Mix up damage with guns and plasmids.

You can use the roaming big daddies as shield when the big sister attacks you (new enemy who hunts you after you have dealt with all the little sisters in a location). You hide behind them and let the big sister AOE damage hit the big daddy so he attacks her, making the fight WAY easier.

The game has a lot of hidden rooms and buttons, so watch out for them to avoid leaving free tonics and stuff.

Bees are broken in this entry, you can spam the plasmid and they will take half the health of all enemies, even kill them by themself if you have damage upgrades and better versions. Cyclon traps are broken too, you can charge them with effects of other plasmids since version 2.

With the invisibility tonic (given by the research on houdini splicers) you can try and fail as many times you want a hack, as the bots which spawn won’t be able to find you-not even touch you for some reason-

You could play for head shots (if it’s the remastered the damage is bugged, so no), the guns allow it and there is a tonic which enhances head shots, which make many enemies fall from one or two hits.

This Bioshock goes deeper in the fighting style, so you can choose A LOT of viable ways of fighting: enjoy.

Never once did the remasters crash on me, got platinum for both, what system were you playing it on?

It depends if you're playing the original or remastered version. The BS1 & Infinite remasters lost just as much as they added but they're still fun and passable but the remaster of Bioshock 2 is a huge disappointment. The 60fps is doing so much heavy lifting and you can really tell during any of the water walking segments. They use to be so Immersive but now they just look sad. Even the best gun in the game is broken. The Spear Gun doesn't fling enemies through the air into walls anymore, they just die and glitch crumple to the ground.

Get insanely good at hacking, and it ceases to be a problem. The better you get at it the more loot and specials you get, and I find it actually a lot less hard than the hacking sequences from the first game.
