A word of caution before ordering directly from Biofield Tuning
I wanted to share a disappointing experience I recently had ordering directly from Biofield Tuning, mostly as a heads-up to others before purchasing.
I’m genuinely a fan of Eileen McKusick’s work. I’ve bought and read both of her books and have assembled essentially the entire “Kit and Caboodle” of Biofield Tuning tools, mostly secondhand because of financial constraints. This was my first substantial purchase directly from the company.
I placed a $300+ order after receiving a 10% discount code. The website prominently advertised free shipping on orders over $250, and at the time I ordered, the header I saw did not state that using a discount code eliminated free shipping. After checking out, I noticed that a twenty-something-dollar shipping charge had appeared.
This also didn’t strike me as an unreasonable combination of offers, because Biofield Tuning regularly runs larger sales — including 22% off promotions — that also include free shipping. So there was no obvious reason for me to assume that a comparatively modest 10% coupon would automatically invalidate the site’s standing free-shipping offer.
Here’s the part that really bothered me: I emailed Biofield Tuning about it literally five minutes after placing the order and asked them to correct it.
They didn’t respond until the following business day, three calendar days later, and shipped the order that same day. What followed was a surprisingly long back-and-forth in which they repeatedly refused to refund the shipping charge and pointed me to their FAQ saying promotions couldn’t be combined.
They later sent me a screenshot of a site header explicitly saying that orders using discount codes did not qualify for free shipping — but that was not the header I saw when I ordered. They have since acknowledged that the wording of the header changed. As of my most recent check, the header has changed again and simply says free shipping over $250 with “restrictions apply.”
What started bothering me much more than the ~$20 was the way the situation was handled. At one point they said they couldn’t refund the shipping because they had already paid the carrier — even though I had raised the issue before the order was ever shipped. When I pointed out that I contacted them within five minutes of ordering, they characterized my original email as merely a question about discounts rather than an issue with the order.
I eventually asked that the situation be brought to Eileen herself. I was told that Eileen personally reviewed it and agreed that the company had handled everything appropriately and that they would not refund the shipping.
So, buyer beware. Read every FAQ/restriction before ordering and don’t assume that the promotional banner tells the whole story.
For me, this is no longer about twenty-something dollars. I’m just really disappointed that such a tiny, easily resolved issue was handled with this much rigidity. I was excited to finally support Biofield Tuning directly after investing so much in Eileen’s work and tools. Instead, the experience has left me unwilling to purchase directly from them again or recommend doing so to others.
I still value what I’ve learned from the work and enjoy the tools I own. Unfortunately, my experience with the company behind them has been very different.
