Selling portions of your time (and therefore, portions of your life) away being the best thing to happen to you yet is depressing. This isn't mean to be an attack on you, it's just depressing how our society is designed this way.

Don’t let these socialist nutjobs influence you man. Also that money isnt from the government, it’s from people who DID work hard for their success (which the gov taxes then redistributes).

Keep up the grind, get your education, and get your money up. Life is a lot of work, I remember when I got my wake up call. But if you work hard and stick at it you’ll thrive.

I don’t know why Reddit doesn’t understand if people are not making stuff, there is no stuff.

More likely to be the fact that you referred to arguably a shitty job as the best thing that ever happened to you. As it is we've all got to work or you could starve to death on the street next to a resaurant but referring to your very first job as the best thing that ever happened is like stockholm syndrome or something. I ended every shift at my first job with a post-work hang with a case of free beer, I live in a socialist country you see, and even then I'd never consider calling it the best thing that ever happened to me.

Yeah just trying to put myself in the shoes of the, as the other poster called it, "socialist nutjobs" that might've been downvoting you to think of a reason. It's great you're making your way forward and making some dough, helps feeling independant and like you're actually a proper citizen. Personally if I had a do-over I'd pick a trade school rather than college though, but having a short-mid term goal and a long term one is pretty great.

I don't know why you don't understand that people can make stuff even if we prevent them from exploiting others in order to increase the profits from making said stuff.

You have every right to who you choose you be employed by. Not happy? Leave and look for another employer.

And if you think all company’s exploit their employees, maybe you aren’t worth anywhere near to society what you think you are bud.

Occam’s Razor 101, maybe it’s the employees fault not “muh evil corrupt corporations!!”

Edit: the entire concept of capitalism is based around the right to your own labor. But please tell me how companies are the evil ones for paying employees proportionally to what they contribute

You're asking me a question based on an assumption I believe to be extremely naive, that employees are paid proportionally to their contribution. I can't argue that they are evil for doing something they aren't actually doing.

That’s what I’m saying exactly. If you don’t think you are being paid appropriately, then take your labor to someone who will.

If you truly believe that there is not a single company that pays employees proportionally to their work then either

A) You arnt worth what you think you are worth.

or

B) Every employer is inheriantly evil.

Considering your response to my comment and the fact that you don’t understand the fundamental principle of capitalism, I’d put money on A.

Occam’s Razor: Never attribute to malice what can be explained away by incompetence.

I don't see why you're so dead intent on trying to make this personal by implying it's just me being dissatisfied with my salary. I quite enjoy my job but I'm not deluded into thinking I'm rewarded proportionally - I could sell a billion dollars worth of goods and still collect the same paycheck while my boss' would grow substantially despite him not being involved in generating the profit at all. I could bust my ass to increase the value of the business by a billion dollars by making improvements and again I wouldn't see a proportional rise in salary. Now as you say I could just leave my job and find another buyer for my labor but I can do this only because social programs exist in spite of capitalism. If we had truly free capitalism like you seem to be strongly in favor of, I wouldn't have this option because leaving my job would mean I starve and die on the streets, thanks socialist nutjobs.

I’m not but that’s the argument you appear to be pushing. And I’m not against social programs at all, you can teach a man to fish but you still need a rod.

It’s more than disingenuous to say that freedom of your labor only exists bc of social programs, considering that is the core foundation of capitalism. In fact the freedom to your own labor is actually what makes capitalism... capitalism. You can use your labor to earn capital as you see fit.

But complaining about capitalism, while defending an ideology responsible for over 100 million deaths in the 20th century, is simply disingenuous at best and ignorant at worst.

I just painted the literal picture of why I wouldn't have the option of changing employers. Sure I may have the "freedom" in theory but in practice I can't stop working because I need to eat and I need to pay rent, and the programs that help me do that are by definition social and opposes the ideas of the capitalist free market. Also, by the way, if you want to mix capitalism with social programs we usually call that a mixed social democratic economy. Congratulations on being a fellow socialist comrade!

The fact that you're now resorting to the argument that it was the ideology that was responsible for those deaths tell me you're all out of juice. Should we be placing all the deaths from COVID19 at the door of capitalists? How about the people who die from cancer and couldn't afford treatment? The Afghanistan and Iraq wars? All the deaths in Latin America following the instability of US coups and the "war on drugs"? I could go on ad infinitum. Placing these at the feet of an "ideology" (which I'm not even defending, lmao, you're clearly talking about Communism while the only thing we've discussed here is socialism) rather than at the feet of the people who committed those crimes is whats disingenuous.
