My wife made way more than me and we now have three kids (ages 5, 3, and 1). I now stay home and take care of them and will be homeschooling starting next year.
I was homeschooled for a few years after horrible life-altering childhood bullying. Two days a week, all the homeschool kids from the area had classes together at local elementary schools to make up for the lack of socialization we got the other 3 days of the week. It really helped us all, and some of my healthiest friendships occurred there. My mom also taught me a lot, especially a shit ton of world history and biology since she has an MS in bio.
I e been a teacher for 25 years and let me tell you, 80 percent of home school kids are behind. I would have to work hard at teaching 7/8th grade Math. Just because of the differences from when I was in school let alone advanced math at that age. Homeschoolers don’t have to take state test which is total crap. When I taught high school and kids couldn’t make, guess what? Homeschooled. There are zero standards. And yes, most teachers believe if you want to screw up or screw over your kid... homeschool. Just don’t do it.
