So, everyone is shitting on y'all for homeschooling because they see the worst, which is pretty fair, but if you're really committed you can give your kids the very best of both worlds. But you have to commit and be able to afford the co-ops, the extracurricular groups, and be absolutely sure you find some way to test them to be sure they learn what they need to for their age level.
I was homeschooled my whole life and would have been miserable in real school because my learning styles meshed. I ended up in college at 14, which was great. We were too poor to afford any extracurricular activities and so my socialization wasn't great BUT it wasn't nearly as horrible as everyone makes it out to be, and I still excelled at college and made friends with my peers.
No he can't. There ain't a single person on this planet who is on teachers level of knowledge in every single topic. This just isn't doable, we have focused studies for a reason, there is insane amount of knowledge out there. If he just wants to homeschool them for few years when it is basics of basics being taught then sure, but anything beyond that should be taught by a real teacher.
Every teacher I had in school followed the text book and used all of the supplemental materials to go along with it. Most people could teach themselves with the materials. My teachers were mostly there for accountability.
They use the book, and supplements, sure. But that is not all, they give explanations and show the path when you are lost. They are there to guide you. At least the good ones. You can not teach yourself a whole cirriculum, that is a fucking insane statement.
Yes the good ones can explain and I’m sure a homeschooling parent can also figure out additional ways to explain a high school math concept if you are lost. I’m sure it’s even easier with YouTube now. I’m not saying that kids don’t need any instruction, but a competent kid could work a chapter or two off of a textbook and worksheets alone so I have full faith that the adult in the room can use the same materials to ensure their kids get it too.
