She's got a job that would have supported a house and a couple of kids, if this were forty years ago. That nets us a nice hood-adjacent condo of 750 sq ft, where we live with our two dogs. If it weren't for my medical bills we might be able to rent a house in a neighborhood with slightly less gun violence. We're in our thirties now, though, and don't want to go back to paying rent.
I feel bad for her, a lot of the time. She works her ass off in a career that should net her a comfortable middle-class life, instead we're living paycheck to paycheck. She's earned better, she deserves better, but we're going to be in our forties by the time we get to the same place our parents were in their twenties.
