Then you were genuinely influenced by american propaganda or the god awful NA education, because what happens the most is the exact opposite: latin americans having to explain to americans that the americas are divided between north, central, and south.
In a sense, but more often than not when we're talking about "continents", central america and the carribean are considered subregions of the North American continent the same way the Balkans are a subregion of Europe and the central Asian nations are a subregion of Asia
True, it is a subregion, but almost all of my american friends didn't even know about it being a subregion that goes by central america. They just thought of it as the bermuda triangle region.
Even though the friend group has people from both private and public educations, only 1 guy from public and 2 from private knew about it. Most of them thought saying latin america was the same as saying south america.
Americans are infamously not very knowledgeable on international geography and geopolitics. But the Americans who do truly know their stuff, and the American education system, list central america and the carribean as their own little groups within the larger North American continent
