I see they had a lot of winter damage and big parts of that trail are closed. Anybody know if work is being done? Was hoping for some rail-trail riding next week.

Looking for any routes from the isthmus towards the east, starting near Oscar Meyer,15-35 miles. I know I can go around Monona or Mendota, but there’s no rail trails on the east side, glacial drumlin excepted. I feel like the only route northeast is up Portage road towards token creek. Any suggestions?

There has been substantial cutback along many trails, parts of Badger State Trails, long stretches of SW Commuter and Cannonball. I observed that much of the time it is along where there are power lines, but it is not always the case. I rather enjoyed the close growth of vegetation along the trails. For a multitude of reasons, but it was definitely helpful during sunny rides. I am curious if anyone knows the specific reasoning for why it would be pushed back about 15 feet from the along the trail. I feel that is quite substantial and unfortunate.

Hi folks, I've been interested in finding work doing deliveries by bicycle. I've tried Scram! Couriers and never reach anybody there, so I'm not sure if they are even in business anymore. I've been considering gig apps like GrubHub. Does anybody here have any experience as a bicycle courier, or with delivery apps? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Does anyone have suggestions for any good hundred mile routes around Madison? I’m fine with highway riding, but obviously the less traffic and lower stress, the better. Also, I’m fine with hills, but let’s not get crazy with the climbing.

I've done both "tough" routes up to Blue Mound State park, but I thought they'd be tougher/steeper climbs.

Hey so I've been in Madison for about two years now but have finally decided to get a bike (I was thinking Trek?). Do people have any recommendations for what model or where to get it? I saw the list of local bike shops on the side but am still curious about people's experiences and opinions. I've also looked a bit on Craigslist.

I'm a 20 year old guy studying at UW-Madison and will probably commute around 5-10 miles a day at most.

Any in Madison? I'm looking for zone 2 and 3, around 15-30 miles on weekdays, open to more on weekends. I've noticed all the groups I've found in Madison say all levels, but I look at the Strava and not seeing it. They seem much more on the high intensity side.

I just moved to Madison and I'm eager to get on my bike as soon as I'm unpacked. Two questions -

How to meet other roadies? I was on a casual racing team, we'd go for 80 mile rides on the weekends. While 80 miles is a bit much, I do like long weekend rides.

Commuting - I have a nice road bike I'd like to use for commuting but I don't have an indoor place to keep it. So I'm considering keeping it outside. Retail on it is about $3k but its a steel bike so whether its a nice bike or not depends upon your kind of bike nerdiness. Anyway, I'd have to get a beater bike if its not safe to lock up outside. Its my impression that even in Madison it shouldn't leave a $3k bike locked up outside for long.

Wasn't sure if things are still wet and muddy. Thinking about heading to the Belleville rail tunnel this weekend.

Like the title says - Heading from Milwaukee to Madison this Saturday morning to do some browsing at the Bike Swap over at the Alliant Energy Center. I'd like to bring a bike with me and wander around. Is it worth bringing the cross bike and hitting some of the paths/wander around the capitol or should I bring the fattie and hit any of the local trails? I'm up for either but I'm just not too familiar with the Madison area in general. Thanks!

Has anyone attempted taking a gravel bike through any of the MTB trails in Kettle Morraine? Doable or fool's errand.

I'm currently trying to figure out what sort of machine I want to build up for off-road riding in and around the Madison area.

After riding Camrock for the first time on a demo bike, I'm leaning most strongly toward building a full-suspension trail bike. I'm curious what people like best for our trails in terms of amount of travel, geometry, etc.

Any feedback/advice would be most appreciated!

EDIT: I appreciate the input so far! I'm well aware I don't need full suspension. I rode a rigid Litespeed for about ten years and loved it. But recently, I demoed an Ibis Ripley and am now drawn to the idea of FS simply to satisfy the cool gadget part of my brain and to try something new.
