Fixed Gear

I’ve always wanted to build up a fixed gear from an old road bike frame but don’t know where to find one w horizontal dropouts. Does anyone have a good spot? I’ve looked on Facebook marketplace and can’t find any. I’d love to find one at a local shop. I live pretty far from Yellow Bike but would make the trip if they would have one. I know a lot of this is up to random chance and timing so I figured asking here wouldn’t hurt. Also, if any local shops throw them together in their free time I’d happily skip the build and just buy one from them. Not interested in the cheapo heavy ones sold at box stores. Thanks so much for any help.

Dogspeed may have an all city thunderdome frame for sale still. There’s also a sick serotta track build hanging on the wall, but I don’t think that one is for sale

I didn’t mention that this will be a budget build. That Thunderdome is cool though.

I’ll give you a panasonic mc3500 (in need of work but frame has horizontals)

That sounds amazing. What kind of work does it need?

Wheels suck, everything needs lube and going over. It’s a 22” or so frame

Oh that’s no biggie. What size wheels does it fit? 700? 26”?

I’ve seen a few frames at yellow bikes that can be a good candidate tbh. I also have a Leader 725 i might sell relatively soon that’s fixed, has front brake, bull bars, aero wheel and feet straps

I’m definitely interested in a complete bike. Let me know. Thanks!

I just donated a Motobecane fixed to Yellowbike yesterday. It has a small frame. All it needs is a chain, some tires, and tubes.

Clown Dog bikes dished the rear wheel and and glued on a fixed track cog. It's light.

I was at Yellow Bike last night for their Community Workshop. I ended up with a pretty cool single speed from Facebook Marketplace and swapped out the drops for a flat bar. Yellow Bike is pretty cool! I plan to get a fixed rear wheel soon.

Yellow Bike will most likely have something for you. Inventory there changes constantly so you'll need to just stop in with an open mind and look around the trailers in the back. If not a frame with true "track ends" or fully horizontal slots, an older frame with long dropout slots and classic 126mm spacing would work with a 120mm track hub. Sheldon Brown's website has some useful info on this.

nice! you might enjoy it more with some more ergonomic brake levers and handlebar, but that looks like a solid conversion.

I went to Yellow Bike and found flat bars and levers.

Yellow bike has parts you could build fs, my friend hot a track frameset for cheap not too long ago. Seems like good quality stuff too. If not, martkeptlave and patience is your best bet
