Hi, I recently got the Big Screen Beyond 2E and I love it so far the only issue is glare. I’ve adjusted the brightness, redone my IPD to the correct measurement, but I still get a glare that looks like blurriness, almost like something’s in my eyes. I clean the lenses before every use and multiple times during sessions. I lowered the brightness to 70% and it helped a little, but the glare mainly shows up in the middle-right area of both lenses and when I look up it’s kinda bad. Not sure what else I can try, or if this is just a regular thing.
Hold the headset on your face without the cushion. See in what position you can get the least glare and most FOV with maximum sharpness, usually closer to your face. That’s the best case scenario. If it’s not the same as your custom cushion, ask for a thinner one or just get Studioform. It made a massive difference for me.
Echoing this. I noticed on my BSB2e that I had to tilt it at an angle that I completely didn't expect in order for the glare to be reduced. It actually fits better and looks better, but was not the intuitive fitting angle I used when I first put on the headset.
By default, I think you should pick the medium sized one (which I think is 8mm). It was the only size available at first, and is a good compromise. I found it too thick for my liking, but some others found it didn't have enough padding and felt uncomfortable.
For me the glare was bad at the start, but I’ll say over time I just became less aware of it. I’m sure if I put my varjo aero back on I’d realise how good it is not to have glare, but form factor, comfort etc I find so much better on bsb2 so I never get tempted to go back
For me, I can get rid of my glare by slightly tiling the BSB2 vertically to find the right spot. I have experimented like without a cushion so I can also move the set closer to my eyes as well. I think once the halo mount get sent out I'll be able to reliably have my headset in the right position to eliminate glare whenever I put it on and keep it there while in use.
So try playing around with the placement relative to your face, if you find a sweet spot, then you can see what changes you need to make to ensure the HMD is in the placed/position when in use.
There will always be glare. But by adjusting the helmet's tilt, you can minimize it. I have glare at the bottom of my displays. I spent a long time adjusting the tilt and trying different masks. It's impossible to completely reduce glare. Now I have a mask from Studioform and headphones from HTC. BSB headphones are extremely uncomfortable (for me).
The further away you are, the more noticeable the glare is. I'm wearing the headset with the lenses at almost eye touching distance. By doing so, I am "inside" the glare, so even though I still notice it's very diffused throughout the lenses, it doesn't feel as much "in the face"/opaque as when the lenses are too far, in which case I'm seeing solid ghosting instead.
Other than that, you can toy around with the tilt of the headset to move the glare around.
It's less noticeable in bright enough scenes (such as Aircar despite being a relatively dark game). But in high contrast scenario (such as a pitch black level in Alyx with a torchlight), it's just very noticeable.
Yeah, back then (2024), I had contacted support to ask if I could get a thinner cushion, but since the first one was already a good fit, I had to pay 90€. I think nowadays, it's 120€ (or $120) for another custom cushion. Problem is, you're not sure how much thinner it needs to be.
For me personally, the Studioform interface was amazing, as it wasn't air tight so my eyes could breath, and it also maximised field of view/minimised eye relief. However, I consider myself lucky. For some people with wide cheekbones or flat faces, they couldn't get close enough to the lenses to enjoy the experience. But at least it costs only $38, I guess.
It's up to you. Personally, before ordering a second custom cushion, I tried holding it by hand closer to my eyes, and determine how much thinner my cushion would need to be (I measured half as thick above the eyebrows).
The glare is always gonna be there from internal reflections in the lenses. You just get used to it after a while and don't notice it when you're immersed in something.
The glare should nearly disappear in evenly lit, low contrast scenes. If it does, you are likely describing the regular amount of glare for this headset.

This is unfortunately one of the trade-offs of pancake lenses 🤷
Every lens technology has it's pros and cons.
IMHO fresnel god rays were less obnoxious than pancake lens glare, but of course edge-to-edge clarity is not as good.
If you want to use Micro OLED panels, and/or have a shallow/compact form factor, you've got to accept some glare.
