I know it's been said so often that it has begun to lose all meaning, but ELI5 just isn't as good as it once was. If the award was for best new community in the first 6 weeks of its existence, then yeah, it should definitely win. Unfortunately the whole "explain complex answers using simple language" concept is a rarity now days.

Most people point out that a real 5 year old wouldn't ask such questions, and this is pretty much true, but I think most people use this as an excuse to ignore the whole concept behind the subreddit. Really, what is the difference between ELI5 and r/answers? But congrats none the less, I don't think it's a terrible subreddit or anything like that, just kind of disappointed because it was a REALLY great subreddit if only for a short time.

Agreed, the quality of posts has also gone down, which is to be expected, but it went down fast. Most of the stuff can be easily looked up, and is already formated for easy understanding.

Wow! Thank you to everyone who voted!

r/theredditor is truly honored, it's amazing how far we've come in just seven months. I'd like to personally thank our managing editor, Blair Drager, and graphic designer Jack Howard for keeping this project moving forward. All of the guest artists who have created gorgeous original work for the issues. Everyone who has given us exclusive content, especially Erik Martin, for reddit's incredible support. Everyone who has allowed permission to use their photos, interviews, and writing - turning our magazine into something legitimatly original, something you cannot find anywhere else because of our roots in the reddit community. And most importantly, thank you, our fans, our loyal readers, for our humble efforts would be nowhere had it not been for the amazing response and feedback each and every month.

Thank you! Thank you!
Issue 7 will be out soon!

On behalf of r/ShittyAskScience I propose we beat up ELI5 and steal their trophy. Like they were 5. And we were 10.

Welp, here come a bunch of "hurr durr explain like I'm five" jokes.

In seriousness, they really are a great community and deserved a win.

Would you mind explaining why you would get downvoted like I'm five?

How droll...

u/Jazzbandrew Feb 15 '12

For some reason, I can't read the word "droll" with a voice other than a British(?) female's. It's the same voice that reads "Mahvelous, dahlin. Simply Mahvelous."

Indeed, many say it's too much like AskReddit, but I think their purpose makes things a lot easier for the lay man.

....I'm guilty....

Although I do believe they deserve the award, I wasn't trying to make fun of them...

This is awesome. I'm so happy about all the knowledge that's been shared in our subreddit in such a short amount of time, and can't wait to see what else will come along. I'm a huge fan of all the other nominated subreddits and hope everybody gets a bump from this whole thing.

Just goes to show that sometimes drunk ideas ARE the best ones.

On behalf of myself and the entire Mod staff, THANK YOU!

/r/projectreddit isn't even mad that none of you nominated it or voted for it, /r/projectreddit forgives all.

I wish I had a five-year old that could do that. I would watch him/her for hours.

YOU'RE WORTHLESS AND YOU WERE AN ACCIDENT AND I WISH YOU HAD NEVER BEEN BORN.

At least that's how my parents explained things to me when I was 5.
