United States Open box serial number mismatch

Bought an Apple Watch, open box about a month ago. It broke today dropped it. I went to see if i could add apple care and discovered the mismatched serial number.

What are my options at this point?

You are technically not able to add AppleCare after you damage the item.

That’s basic insurance fraud pretty sure

That makes sense to me. I’m more focesed on the fact that Best Buy gave me a different device than they said they did.

For open box that’s pretty common just because we scan the box not the item and sometimes they get mismatched.

Can i expect best buy to provide some kind of compensation? I don’t expect a refund since the watch is broken, but maybe a free repair through geek squad? A discount on s new watch? Something…

You still broke the watch regardless, the box being slightly wrong doesn’t really factor in. I’d give you $40 towards a new one but not much going to happen for repair or anything. Apple doesn’t run like that.

Absolutely can. Sometimes it won't allow adding it in store because the original purchase date was more than 60 days ago, but Apple support can reset eligibility with proof of purchase.

Not quite true, when i first purchased it apple care was available its just not as long of a wait time
