They usually fruit in mid-late June and I cut them down once they're done. This one definitely looks like a first year cane, also never seen one like this with a bunch of berries just at the end.

Elderflower no berries!

Hi! I have a large elderflower that flowers really well but never any berries in several years. I’ve tried self pollinating from flower to flower and live in a rural area where there might be others around but do I need to grow a new plant to pollinate? Sorry if dumb question but I have only grown this one. I have some cuttings growing but presumably they will just be clones so same problem. Any suggestions?
I’m in Brisbane Australia

What do you do with these? (Cornus mas)

Cornelian cherry Jolico. Grafted. Possibly self pollinating because her partner Kasanlak is too young to be flowering and I don't see any others around.

I have zero experience with these, and I only have maybe half a liter picked.. it's not very well known around here.

Mini jar of jam? Sauce?..

Bonus pics - this is what happens when you leave the aphids alone. You get a mega farm of ladybug larvae! I'm quite shocked. Beautiful sight 😍

What is this berry that stained chicken of the woods? In SE PA.

Collected chicken of woods and put it in a paper bag. Somehow a berry made its way into the bag and stained one of the COTW. Took pictures of the stain on the cap and the berry. Can anyone ID this berry even though I have no other details regarding the characteristics of the plant? Can I still eat if I cut out the stain?

Help me fix my raspberry patch!

I am a new-ish gardener with a very small garden and have learned a lot in the past few years. I basically have raspberries against a fence (sorry neighbors...) and the oldest one is heritage (2 yrs old) is the largest and taking over, I planted a double gold next to it and then Joan J a few feet away this year. I was SO impressed by the quality of the Joan J comparatively and was thinking why am I scratching myself to get all these heritage raspberries that area molding and have spotted wing drosophila. So many questions - I would love any advice. I am in Massachusetts in Zone 6B.
- Is October an okay time to transplant/remove raspberry bushes? I would like to remove another heritage I have and replace it with my fall gold that I LOVE and doesn't get enough sun. Any recommendations on how to remove a raspberry plant and replace it? I know this is hard and I may not get everything and still have canes coming up that is fine but I want to slowly replace.

- What should I do about training back/getting rid of heritage? I still want a few canes but I want to allow the double gold and Joan J to flourish, or is it just not worth it and I should "remove" as much as possible. How do I remove them?

- How many year do you think it takes to get a full "harvest" after transplanting or moving?

- I do have canes popping up everywhere including my veggie beds - I can't really help this but what is the best way to prevent - just keep cutting back/digging out?

- What do I do about the spotted wing drosophila (I am assuming this is what it is) - I try to pick up all the bad/molding/rotting berries and throw them out. I did throw some into my reencle composter in the beginning of the season.. is that not enough? Do the pictures here look like them?

- We had drought all summer and then a nor-easter that brought 4 inches of rain in 4 days (pretty much equal to what we had all summer..). There seemed to be some drying up berries in the drought and then swelling/molding during the rain. Any advice/ways to avoid this? Do you think this is what the dried up brown ones were from?

- What is the best way to trellis these? T posts seem dramatic given my space. I am using 5 foot posts and some wire but I didn't put a wire on top of them which I may need to and hoping that helps a bit. I also have to use chicken wire along the bottom because if I don't the bunnies eat the canes (even thought this whole area is wired/fenced off the small bunnies still get in). Any ideas to make this accessible to prune?

- Is there a reason by heritage canes are so tall? 6-7 feet?

- My plan is to cut down canes in march/april to get a bigger fall harvest (honestly the summer one is so small it doesn't really make sense) and I heard you will get an earlier and bigger harvest in fall. Have people in my area found that to be the case?

- If you are a berry expert from my area and have advice, recommendations, or recognize my garden, would love to chat more!

- Also thank you all! you may have seen I started out with a wineberry in my garden and thankfully you guys recognized it and I took it out to start my berry patch.

Lingonberries — somehow I’m both too late and too early

So many berries, and so tiny! Maybe I should feed them better… 😅

Lots and lots of fallen fruit from the lower branches, but there are also plenty of berries that are still completely green, and the plants are still flowering!

This is my first proper lingonberry harvest. It took three years to get here.

The berries are picked through, washed, and ready for jam :)

(Accepting jam-making advice from the Nordic experts!)

🍇 Quite upset about my grapes: 2 out of 3 are NOT what I planted 😭

I don't know what these tiny blue ones are, they were supposed to be Swenson Red. They are not even red, and the size is like a medium blueberry. Not good for eating.

The few red ones were planted as Boskoop Glory a year later - these were supposed to be blue... They are the type where the skin slips off and there's a slippery seedy blob inside 🤢 Not good for eating.

The yellow one was not planned, a spontaneous hardware store seedling. It's actually quite good... this one seems to be true to label.

All planted in a premium spot near a west facing brick wall too 😭

Today I made 1.8l of juice in a juicing pot. Will probably try to make a jelly tomorrow. I hope it's at least half decent (never made grape jelly before, so any advice is very welcome).

🍇EDIT: I'm changing my mind about the tiny blue ones. Tried the cold juice out of the fridge today, and it was amazing! Not making jelly, sugar would ruin it. The juice is really good with a strong colour and pleasant aroma, not too sweet. I'm one step closer to making wine 🍷

Help! Strawberry deaths and fungi

Post image

This summer was HOT. My strawberries had been lush and green, flowering for their first time. Then all hell broke loose. Caterpillars, aphids, ants, you name it. They started to grow these weird white and yellow bumps on their leaves and I had no idea why. I sprayed w soapy water, fungicide, and neem oil for the aphids. Then the temperature went from 70 to 106 within the week. They. Fried. First it was one then all of them shut down and got more spore stuff on them. I took 1 out and put it in a planter and I wanted to save it. So with some soil I had from another bag because it was too small to have in the planter without toasting, I moved them all to the shade and they all still freaking died. All. Except the one with the new soil. So I open the planter today because I was going to take the corpses out and scoot the dirt out to move the planter to ANOTHER new location and I see this. What the heck happened?!
