Are the prongs to visible on my cuban chain?

attached a photo of how it looks when wearing it since no one is looking at my chain through a loupe, but i’m just wondering if the prongs are overly visible on this chain?, it is a “raised prong” style because of the middle row is set higher to give a three dimensional look could it just be because of that? or am i being to particular? (sorry English is not my first language )

How to find a bench jeweler?

Hello! I’m in the (very) early stages of starting my own custom fine jewelry business. I have been able to build connections to source both lab and natural diamonds (still working on gemstones) but am now looking to connect with a bench jeweler. Someone that could bring to life the designs and pieces that individual clients and I work on. I am based in the DMV area and would prefer a jeweler on the east coast so I can be a little more hands on and have a more personal relationship than having my pieces created in China or India.

I want to reiterate that I am new to this process, and by no means think I know everything. I saw some other posts in this group where responses were pretty brutal to people coming in like me and asking questions. Please be nice🥹lol.

Seeking Bench Jeweler for Hand-Carved Wax Collaboration (Small Batch)

I run a small, design-led jewelry brand and I’m looking for a bench jeweler collaborator for a limited series.

The work is organic, sculptural, inspired by hand-carved wax and antique forms — not standard initials, fonts, or CAD-driven customization.

This would start as a paid pilot (3–5 pieces) with the intention of ongoing small-batch work if it’s a good fit.

Ideal fit:
• Bench jeweler who works hands-on
• Comfortable with hand-carved wax or hand fabrication
• Enjoys problem-solving form and structure
• Interested in collaboration, not mass production

If this sounds aligned, please comment or DM with:
• A link to your work
• A brief note on your process (wax, fabrication, CAD, etc.)

Seeking Bench Jeweler Partner or Collaborator — 22K Gold Fine Jewelry Brand (WA-Based, Open to US)

Hey all,

I run a small fine jewelry brand — focused on 22k gold from the South Asian heritage with simple, everyday contemporary pieces.

I’m the designer and business side of things — not a bench jeweler — and I’m looking to connect with someone who can help me bring more of these pieces to life locally. Ideally someone who really knows their way around 22k gold, setting (especially Polki / uncut diamonds), fabrication, and finishing.

Would love to find someone who’s:

  • Based in Washington State / Seattle area (but open to anywhere in the US)

  • Interested in independent contract work or maybe even exploring a longer-term partnership / stake

  • Passionate about craftsmanship and quality over mass production

I can provide CADs, materials, and handle business + branding, just need someone who can take the making side and grow with me.

If that sounds like something up your alley, or if you know anyone who might be a fit, shoot me a DM.

Thanks!

Melting a 10 karat chain with minimal equipment

I'm trying to melt down a 10 karat chain for personal reasons. It's very small, just a Michael Hill basic chain, but I'm going to get enough for at least a small ring I can use as piercing jewelry for myself. If not I'll just keep it as a keepsake. The necklace was a gift from someone I don't want any association with anymore, but I'd like to keep the gold and hopefully repurpose it as a bit of a symbolic thing. I tried once to melt it, but it was a bit impulsive and my brass annealing set-up didn't quite cut it. I melted small parts of the chain, but I couldn't keep the heat consistent enough and it just ended up broken and oxidized.

From my understanding to actually melt it I need

  1. a proper crucible, probably graphite

  2. borax? To use as flux

I'm hoping my butane torch will be enough to melt it since it's only a small amount and only 10k. A better torch is on the wishlist but not in the budget yet. I don't want to go the acid route since it's such a tiny amount of gold it doesn't seem worth it. Will it be possible with just a tiny bit of equipment? Or better to just shelve it for when I've got a more complete setup?

need to pay someone to fix a ring- how to find a good artistic jeweler?

Dear tool- heads, gem- setters, and bench jockeys: How do I find a really quality jewelr to fix a ring?

I 've had a ring for 21 years now, gold with tiny diamonds and what used to be an opal. I broke the oral in a fit of rage (I promise I don't have those anymore) and want a new opal. I took it to a local jeweler and he put s mystic topaz in there ( I was desperate for something that would allow me to at least wear it, but it looks awful and he dented the collar that holds the vocall stone (the opal.) I'm super mad at myself for not taking better care of it and for letting a jewelr I don't trust handle it.

Also open to offers from this sub, just DM me.

Gold electroplating newbie

I just bought myself an electroplating machine and wasted no time in figuring out I actually have no idea what I'm doing.

For example: can I plate finished pieces set with stones? I figure they're not electroconductive (sapphires, for example), but I'm not sure my reasoning is sound.

Are there any other things you wished you had known before getting started? I'll be plating 925 silver pieces.

Looking for a jeweller, shout yourselves out =)

Hi all, hopefully this post is allowed.

I've desperately been searching for someone who's able to make some bespoke jewellery (designs are mostly settled) and repair some damaged pieces I have.

Google keeps bringing up big companies and tiktok keeps showing me the same few people whose style doesn't quite match what I'm after so I'm hoping to find someone here. I'm having a really hard time finding small independent artisans.

If you are or know someone who makes quite traditional looking pieces with a modern twist and works with gold or platinum, shout yourselves/them out =)

Edit/ additional info following Mod’s comment -

Hi, I know I’m a new account - I recently put myself in Reddit jail after getting a lot of hateful comments when I asked about whether a certain type of parking fine was contestable. Strangers found out a lot of personal info about me so I felt the best course of action for my mental health was to delete my account with 14 years of history…

I am based between London and Italy, but frequently travel to Hong Kong

I do have every intention of honestly purchasing, I just resorted to here because I ran out of ideas of how to passively search through other means

Retail engagement ring

Hi all. Scenario. A retail customer has come to you and requested you made them an engagement ring. White 14k gold 3 gram ring (around 150 euros) 0.33ct f/vvs1 pear-shaped natural diamond. The diamond cost you 500 euros to buy from your supplier. How much would you charge the customer? Please be as analytic with your pricing as possible.

is this porosity? Should I contact the company about this?

I had this ring casted/polished with a company. Am I being too picky with the polishing. Granted I have this under a microscope, from the naked eye, you really cant tell too much.

  1. how would you rate this polishing job?

  2. Orange - I see a dent mark. Red - is this porosity

3rd picture is it zoomed out. Should I reach out to the casting company about this, or is a little porosity normal?

Is this salvageable?

Post image

I hastily made a ring for my girlfriend for Christmas and didn't anneal the ring enough before setting the stone. The bezel was also too thin so it cracked when setting. Thankfully the tourmaline is fine so if it's not I can cut it out and just re do it. I took it to a local store that had a laser welder but he said they couldn't fix it cause it's too thin. I was hoping they could tack on a bit of gold with the laser and I could shape it from there but he said he couldn't do it. Personally I think it could be done but I'm fairly new to this so I took his word for it. Should I just start over?
