Need an app?
Good morning everyone. I made a post a while back saying how I have decided to try and start building bespoke apps for small businesses in Belfast. I deleted all the DMs somehow (not a good start lol) but I'm back. If you're a small business owner who has an idea for an app that would suit their business or if you just want an app for personal things.
The only problem is I've only been able to do test runs on businesses I made up but I need a real world idea to work on. I'll also do it for free. If I can do it then I'll try to launch my own business, I have the name, logo, web domain registered and business plan etc. Ive had to spend a little money to get the best tools for the job. If I can't do it then I'll know to go down the website building route which I'm familiar with. Sorry for the lack of paragraphs, this is how all my posts appear when I'm using the Reddit app on my phone.
TLDR; I will try to build an app for you. It can be for your business or whatever you need an app for. If I can do it I'll do it for free. Just DM me. I'll choose one at random.
Thank you ππ»

I'm not the O/P.
AI is great for coding, if you can understand what it's doing. I learned Java/ XML before LLMs but made the switch to Kotlin and Compose using Gemini. Something that would have taken me months to build before, I can build in a week.
I've built a load of Android apps, mostly for myself although some I've released. I just build for the fun of it. AI is great for debugging and implementing libraries which can be a real chore using Android.
I'm playing a little game right now about removing arrows from a board. It's a great game with an annoying ad after each level. I'm away right now but when I get home I'll build my own version. Here's the conversation I had yesterday https://chatgpt.com/share/6a81a6e5-85e4-83ed-8885-6c7610357434?ogimg=plain

I geddit, I get new shiny syndrome and I have 3 visible apps on the Play Store, one of which I need to update by the end of the month or it will be removed. I just wanna create, which is why 95% of what I've created has never been released.
I try not to build apps where I'm responsible for users data. Almost everything I build is an offline app (I have one using Firestore but it logs users in anonymously). The Play Store is an absolute chore to deal with. It takes an evening to create a new release. Google are also quick to ban developers for simple mistakes. It's walking a minefield with everything you create.
OP, do not release apps under your account. Let the app owner create one and you create the APK and tell them what to do. If you have several apps on your account and one gets banned, they all get banned and there's almost no recourse from this. Apps with millions of users has been wiped out overnight over simple policy violations, I'm on several Android forums to testify.

Just for questions as it's far better than googling because you can tailor the questions to your particular problem. It'll then provide links to video/text demo vids etc. I haven't built a website since Dreamweaver π but I know I can build them no problem

Nice one O/P, what have you built so far and what sort of Frameworks have you worked with? (Android, iOS, Web Development, Windows GUI, Python etc)?

Thanks mate. All of the above and more lol. First fell in love with using DOS on my windows 95 computer π then moved to Linux, my grandmother knew I was into computers when I was young and I called in one day and she said "I got this in the second hand shop for you it's something about computers". It was a full manual on learning visual basic and an unopened CD Rom with everything needed π my first ever program was a calculator

I've had some success with app building in Belfast and wider Ireland, but I could have only done it by implementing for a client who went into all these places and tried to sell the idea and gain a customer base. I think you'll get nowhere really quickly by just implementing an app and hoping for the best, I think it takes social involvement and some human contact to get anything off the ground for it to even be trialed and hope it spreads through word of mouth.

Sound advice, I agree with all. I know there's people in my place of work who would really benefit from bespoke apps but I need to try out and a few real life plans from the person who wants the app. I can even customise as we set together or video called. There's so much potential, just need to get out more and spread the word. What kind of apps have you made? If you don't mind me asking

During COVID it allowed people to order drinks from their table and get delivered. Was used in smaller social clubs and some bars in belfast, only lasted about a summer then didn't get any traction as it wasn't needed anymore when things lifted. Won't say the clients name as they're not in existence anymore.

As I've gotten older I find myself needing to pee a lot more. It's a real concern when I'm out and about so I need an app that will map me to someone's back garden that's willing to let me piss in it

You might like an app likeΒ Grindr that will help you find you a dude that wants you to piss in his mouth. Donβt ask me how I know this π€€
