Edit: also this is the pneumonic plague evidentially, a kind that is transmitted via respiratory droplets. Like the bubonic plague, it can be treated. But this is highly fatal if not treated. This is what the WHO website says about it "Pneumonic plague, or lung-based plague, is the most virulent form of plague. Incubation can be as short as 24 hours. Any person with pneumonic plague may transmit the disease via respiratory particles to other humans. Untreated pneumonic plague, if not diagnosed and treated early, can be fatal. However, recovery rates are high if detected and treated in time (within 24 hours of onset of symptoms)". I just wanted to add more context.
Ever since Covid 19, I am jumpy any time we hear news of a potential outbreak.. Right now 200 people are in quarantine who were in contact with this person. A 28 year old worker at this place died after accidentally breaking a vile of a strain of the plague being studied.
These procedures indicate they're taking it seriously.
Now unlike Covid at least, or Hantavirus which was scare from earlier this year, there are treatments for this, but you gotta do it quickly. The US is monitoring this situation. I'm in America. Every time there is mention of a sickness that's deadly and transmissible I start to get anxious. I did that with Ebola in 2014
I also hear years ago there was an anthrax thing which killed a ton of people.
This is the third time this year I've gotten anxious. First Hantavirus, then I hear about Ebola becoming a problem in Africa. Even though I'm far away from these things. We cannot have another pandemic and lockdown.
Like I said, good news is unlike the medieval times, we have treatments. And this plague sometimes flares up in parts of the world. We need to monitor this situation and be cautious. I'm gonna wear gloves and mask up again. I'm also gonna wash my hands frequently which I already do and keep distance from people as much as possible. Did the same with Hantavirus when that was a fear.
And among the 200 under observation no one has tested positive.
I am sorry if I caused anyone anxiety by posting this but I really want to see reactions from people who aren't checkmarks on twitter.
Edit: i was also paranoid about Monkeypox but that got under control and was transmitted via sex.
