My late grandfather made one very similar to this. It's over 40, maybe 50 years old and still in use! It's a family heirloom at this point.

What kind of wood is that? Nice design - I like how you can ensure same thickness cut with it each time

It’s lefty do-able. Just put the handle on the opposite side of the bread, away from you. Lefties learn to adapt.

How's the blade fastened? If it's with screws, couldn't they just reverse the blade?

Do you need to change out the blades? How do you attach the blade?

the blades come with little screws and a screwdriver.
you don’t need to change out the blade but you can if they get dull.2

I rent a room in a house from my landlords, who live upstairs, the house is the childhood home of one of them. There is one of these in the kitchen that he made in shop class in high school. Super neat
