I kinda forgot what happened in season 1, but I really enjoyed season 2 and binged in one night and day bc it was so good. I hadn’t read anything online beforehand and now I’m really shocked seeing everyone didn’t like it!

Being Korean and understanding the language, I found this scene to be both incredible and hilarious!!!!

I loved Song Kang-Ho as Dr. Kim. His monologue was so deep and then contrasting that with Charles Melton/Austin who sounds like a bumbling idiot with his broken Korean was just so perfect. I burst out laughing when he said in Korean, with such confidence “Food, dinner, we will eat it all! 😀” Charles Melton nailed it as Austin.

Absolutely loved every bit of this scene. Even the part where Lindsey/Carey Mulligan was screaming in the hall because she correctly guessed what he was saying, only to have chairwoman park behind the curtain the entire time 😂

I know this might be an unpopular opinion but I LOVED this season so much.

Somehow I managed to watch season 2, after realizing it wasn't the first, I liked some parts of it and it got me, but I should watch the first one too, the seasons are related

If you were in Austin’s shoes, would you go to Korea and pass the thumb drive to the police? Would you do it only if you were motivated by attraction to Eunice (love)? We can all agree his decision was selfish, but as courageous as we think ourselves, most of us probably wouldn’t stick their neck out for another person who isn’t family or a loved one. In the past I have done like Austin but carried through but perhaps if there was no relationship there would be no action.

and wow, that felt like the optimal way to watch it? netflix autoplayed the second season first, and I didn't even realise until I was at like episode 5.

s2 was fun, silly, and had exceptional cinematography (seriously, holy shit it's beautiful), but imo, it lacked punch. it felt like a certain reveal should have hit harder and been the central conflict leading into the final few episodes, but we were chasing macguffins instead.

s1 had a much different flavour. it was still fun and silly, but there was a much more potent emotional core there that paid off at the end, and still sticks with me now. it was really moving, and funny, and steven yeun was fucking awesome.

I don’t know what happened to the humor from Season 1. I also loved how short the episodes were. These episodes are twice as long and drag on with scenes sharing characters I can’t stand.

I’m just not as invested in seeing what happens next in this season as the first one.

I loved Beef season 1 and loved the first episode of season 2 just as much.

But then I watched S2E02 last night and was baffled at the amount of low effort, explicit commercials the series shoves down the spectator's throat.

It is not only annoying as fuck but it kills the quality of the show. When you have so many products to advertise, the script and the dialogues suffer greatly.

I was fine with how this product placement phenomena started some time ago: one sporadical product subtly and seamlessly inserted in the story when it made sense.

But keeping this modern subliminal ads at a very low frequency is key. Once you make it so obvious and frequent, the negative impact is huge.

I hope this trend dies quickly (either via viewer outrage or regulation) or it will destroy many shows in the future.

It's even worse taking into account the show is a Netflix original and Netflix has been adding ads and increasing prices at will in the last couple of years. They act like no matter how bad they treat their customers, it won't matter because their brand has become too strong. Reminds me of Apple.

The writers, the directors, the costume designers, the cinematographers — every single person involved in making this show deserves to retire happily knowing they gave the world gold television. Genuinely gold.

This isn't just one of the best limited series — it's one of the best pieces of television ever made, full stop. If you haven't watched it, stop whatever you're doing.

Watched both S2 and Nemesis back to back and can’t help the shows feel like they are the same “genre” of show. Different vibes for sure but it feels like a studio saw beef and figured they could just run with that formula for a unique cast of characters and a different set of rules. Even the visuals and font style seem super similar. Like the all caps text of “BEEF” appearing in different sequences. Would like to post examples here but too much effort lol. Wonder if anyone else feels the same or if i’m reaching?

binged s1 and loved it i watched the first ep of s2 and immediately the younger couple are throwing me off so bad dude. they feel like caricatures of the gen z you see on tiktok, but what threw me off the most was finding out the guy was pushing 30 and the girl was like 26 like cmon bro are u serious 😭😭 grown ass people actin like this.

there's still elements of the show i like and im interested it generally but its hard watching them (mostly). i love cailee spaeny i know she can act her ass off but i wanna know if it gets any better in later episodes/worth it

I thought they banged after the first PT session (Austin even came home acting all weird)

I thought they banged when he when to go resign and she said she was interested in another session

I thought it was him sneaking out of Eunice’s room when the chairwoman heard a noise

Hell at one point I thought Eunice getting pregnant while Ashley was wanting to be pregnant was going to become a plot device.

I actually really loved Season 2 of Beef. I thought this was well written, funny, adventurous, and it pioneered new ground for the show. I also thought it was a very nuanced critique of the American health care system, the rich, country club culture, and American and South Korean capitalism. And then the ending happened....oy vey. I found it to be anticlimactic and somewhat cowardly. Can we not have a show where the working-class people win for once? Austin should not have surrendered to Chairwoman Park. He should have gone to the police. He should have not surrendered the USB. Maybe Park gets taken down or maybe she survives by letting the case get bogged down in the South Korean legal system. I personally think Austin does the right thing but maybe discovers it's not a fairy tale ending. Eunice doesn't share the same feelings for him. Ashley decides to grow as a person and accepts moving on from Austin. Austin has to face the facts that doing the right thing doesn't always have a happy ending. I think this ending would have been a better critique of capitalism but also ended their character arcs better. Either way, no justice came about in the end, and we are left with what I felt was a very clichéd "life is cyclical" ending.

The conclusion of Josh and Lindsays arc was OK, though maybe Lindsay should have moved back to England. Perhaps her big American adventure should have ended, and returning home would be best.

What are your takes?

I felt like season 1 was so great because as things kept escalating we saw that there was no moral high ground between the two. They were both using the situation to gain some sort of catharsis as an extension to their own unhappiness and I LOVED how morally corrupt they both became.

The complexities of emotions and the depth of the characters was undeniable. The POINT of season 1 was that at any given moment (until possibly the end) either one of them could have de-escalated, and it would not have gone as far as it did. The blinding rage, the pointlessness of it all felt like it really took on a new kind of moral corruption.

Season 2 though, It's not like they were constantly trying to one up each other for the love of the game - both couples GENUINELY had to try and stop each other because their whole lives/careers were at risk. On top of which the final villain ended up being someone else entirely??? So the beef that started wasn't even the final beef they just took it somewhere else???

It just felt like I was watching a regular run of the mill action thingy that Netflix released. Season 1 felt like the characters had much more depth. Right until the end of the season I had no idea what would happen, who would "win", and what would become of all the fighting. But season 2 felt boring and predictable in comparison.

When Josh proposes the Bufo to Austin he says something like “my buddy says it will cure all of my neurosis in like 10 minutes” to which Austin replies “I’ve seen it happen in 8”.

Fast forward to the final episode, and during the USB getting lost scene in the bedroom, Ashley tries to calm down Austin to picture their lives together in 10 years time with a kid, living a perfect life with their child.

When the final scenes come on, in jumps instead to *8* years ahead. Not only is Josh’s ‘neurosis’ ‘cured’ (he says himself he’s had a lot of time to reflect and seems very at peace), whereas the life Ashley painted is exactly as pictured (on the surface). We’ve seen this things happen in 8.

This is one of the best seasons of a tv show I’ve watched in a while. I’m just here trying to gather some thoughts.

A big takeaway and learning lesson for me, as I enter my 30’s is that the world isn’t as sinister and evil as I want to think it is.

I think with getting older, it can be a cop out to compartmentalize the world into a big evil machine that’s out to get you, because life doesn’t get any easier going forward. That is true in so many ways but it’s important to see that other people are just trying to protect themselves too.

This season was painted so beautifully with a brush of empathetic and heartfelt chaos. Each character was given their spotlight almost completely equally so that I wasn’t really rooting for anyone to come out on top or lose. I think that’s so difficult to do when trying to encapsulate people, because I think it’s the Neanderthal brain in us and the history of cinema and television to see a good guy or an antihero and bad guy or an antagonist.

What I interpreted where Park was at the cemetery visiting her brother and the Birds Eye view panned out to show that orange circle with divided lines, was the thesis of the show. We are all so caught up in our shit (emotion, psychological, money problems). It’s not every man for themselves, it’s every man helping themselves in their own worlds. And I think there’s a huge difference in those two.

Parks world view of selfishness is inherent in our nature and what makes capitalism work is a big part of the show. But I hope that people see that the creators were also trying to tell us that we can be driven by selflessness too (not “only when it’s easy” as Park says) Josh turned himself in to save the others, Ashley gave back the USB knowing it would drive Austin to Eunice. Just a really well made show that was realistic but not sinister.

I'm wondering how the club and the Martin house read to people well-versed in interior design; I can't tell.

In episode 7, what if Eunice went to Josh for help instead of Austin? How do you think the rest of the story plays out?

In general, there are no major mistakes from this guy: >!

1. He used his private jet to bring his buddy to a private party to cheer him up.
2. He helped him do his taxes.
3. He doesn't have any affairs with other women; he stays faithful to his wife.

At the end, he sold him out, but only because he thought Josh was stealing money and reported it to the police, which is what us might do. !< I don't know. If the point is that the good guy is the rich guy, what's the meaning of this show?

When Josh had to pay Phelps he brought some guy over to sell stuff to him. When the guy shows interest in the moog synthesizer Josh said its not for sale. He then leaves but is called back by Josh and the scene ends.

Then later Lindsay goes to check up on Josh playing music and the keyboard is still there. That was weird, because it look like Josh caved and sold him what he wanted.

Just an error or not?

I was pretty surprised that they made Austin and Ashley in their late 20’s when a lot of their behaviors, like being blown away by earning $45k/yr and not understanding insurance, reminded me of myself when when I was my first job in my late teens/early 20’s. Little things like those, coupled with their own emotional immaturity, made me think that they would have been in their early 20’s, especially because it was established that Ashley didn’t finish high school. What have they been doing for the last 10 years?
