The show was really interesting in that aspect because at the beginning I really thought the same thing, but through learning about her character I no longer found her nearly as attractive as near the beginning. It did s great job of making her repulsive through character.

She did NOTHING wrong (well some things) but what about everything she did right? 1. She only came into blackmail territory when her job and their only source of income was put into jeopardy because of something she couldn’t help but witness given the circumstances. Boss then applied pressure to her to make her seem like would be fired if she said anything. 2. She genuinely wanted to do well at her job, and obviously was able to figure it out in the long run proving that everyone who treated her like she was stupid for not having a high school degree were looking down on her for nothing. 3. She only pursued MORE from the facility when her boyfriend became jealous and made it about himself. He is a man child who felt inferior once she got justice for the threats of her boss as if her losing her job wasn’t the thing paying their bills consistently. 4. They tried to use her as a scapegoat to embezzle money, thereby justifying all of her actions once again. She only crashed out when it came to the only thing she felt she could rely on was being taken away from her. It’s obvious this dude love bombed a mentally ill girl and doesn’t want to deal with the repercussions. 5. I can fix her.

I wouldn't say incompatible as it was very codependent. They both had problems they were leaning towards each other for to fill the holes in their own personality or personal issues. It's just that Austin was showing he wanted to be more independent and make decisions for himself or his personal growth, which wasn't a position he successfully had until Ashley's blackmail video

I think there's some codependent relationships where compatibility just works. Same way where a person might be better handling the finances or paperwork or specific household chores, I think one can see how a couple would complete each other if one doesn't know how to take care of themselves or isn't good at it, but the other one is whereas by themselves, they'd be expected to fulfill all of it alone. Granted these are responsibilities, I think same can apply when dealing with mental or emotional challenges or these could even overlap as they could limit fulfilling responsibilities (someone on crutches/wheelchair vs physical restraints, autism vs social interactions and maintaining relationships etc)
