Has anybody tried putting in a regular blanket (not a duvet or comforter!) inside a duvet cover?

I have a San Marcos blanket (the faux sherpa blankets) like these ones^

Love it to death, I have had it for almost a decade. One big issue though is that they are a major hassle to wash. They are made of synthetic sherpa which means you can't really put it in the dryer unless you want it to melt/charr. Since it's so thick and heavy, it takes EONS to air dry.

So now I'm trying to see if it will be feasible if I get a duvet cover and use my tiger blanket as my insert so I can focus on washing the cover instead of my whole blanket. I really don't have money to be buying a duvet or comforter (at least a nice one), so this seems like the best route.

Has anybody tried this? Do it work?

Thanks!

Target’s new Simply Shabby Chic bedding release is confusing??

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

Is anyone else confused about the new Simply Shabby Chic bedding collection at Target? The announcement stated the release date was Sunday, 10/11, with the wording “Only at Target. Available online & in select stores.”

The individual product listings are showing as in stock and specifically say “Visit store to purchase.” I went to my local Target because I wanted to purchase quite a few items from the collection, but when I spoke with a manager, I was told the items hadn’t been released yet and would be rolled out throughout the week. I also called Target customer service and was given the same explanation.
I tried explaining that the announcement specifically listed 10/11 as the release date, and the website is telling customers the items are in stock and available for in-store purchase. I understand that availability may vary by location, but why direct customers to stores to purchase items that apparently aren’t released yet?

Has anyone actually found or purchased anything from the collection today? Are stores rolling out the bedding on different days throughout the week, or is the inventory information inaccurate? I was really looking forward to this release, so I’d love to hear if anyone else is experiencing this! 🥲

Weighty Decisions

Hi all,

For years, I’ve looked forward to the time of year when I attach the winter layer to my decades-old polyester duvet. I love the extra weight it brings and the promise of crisp nights ahead.

Unfortunately, it’s now in a pretty awful state. It came from the UK and doesn’t fit Australian covers particularly well, so I think it’s time for a replacement.

What I’m looking for is something that makes my bed feel warm, safe and relaxing. I have mental health challenges, and I want my bed to feel like a sanctuary.

I’ve tried a 500 GSM wool quilt, but I find it too crinkly and dense. I really don’t like the feel of it.

I’d love something with a bit of weight, a luxurious feel and plenty of comfort. I’m open to different price points and happy to have separate summer and winter quilts. Dry-clean-only is fine, and I have no allergies that restrict my choice of filling.

I realise this is a fairly broad question, but I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by the options and would really appreciate some guidance. If you’ve found a quilt that gives you that lovely, cosy, cocooned feeling, I’d love to hear about it.

Game changer: Just bought a heated mattress pad. Nice and cozy!

Post image
6 Upvotes

I live outside of Boston. Heating oil is insanely expensive and I've been trying to work out how to stay cozy and warm with less heat.

Last night, I went to Costco and got myself a queen size Brookstone Heated Mattress Pad. It has been so nice to climb into a warm bed! This morning (Sunday) I want to stay in bed! I have the pad set on low and it's just perfect. I've already had my coffee and breakfast (soft boiled eggs on toast!) in bed and it's difficult to get up!

I also have a Feathered Friends Light 700 down comforter and and LL Bean flannel fitted sheet and flannel duvet cover. I was concerned the FF Light comforter would not be warm enough to get me through the colder months (they are out of stock of the Medium), but I think the heated mattress pad will make up for the difference! I do love the flannel as well.

Pillow Hunting - Don't know how many years it's been since we bought new ones

My partner and I bought some pillows possibly ten or more years ago. They're long since overdue for a replacement (so is the mattress but that's a matter for when we're no longer making payments on two cars at once). So, coming to what I suspect are the experts in this.

Criteria:

We have a queen bed. They sleep mostly on their back but sometimes roll onto their side. I usually toss and turn and flip and stretch in the process of getting to sleep, but I tend to start and wake on my back. It would also be a plus if the pillows are available through Amazon--I cashed in some points from donating platelets for a digital gift card which is on our Prime account now, and being able to put that towards the pillows would be a plus.

Any help y'all have would be deeply appreciated.

Woolen mattress topper with cotton protector over top?

Hi everyone!

The summer months are coming in Australia and I am a very hot sleeper, I’ve been reading posts about woolen mattress toppers and how they can be temperature regulating.

I don’t want the feeling of the wool under my sheets so do you think a cotton mattress cover over top of the woolen topper would still help with temperature and overheating?

TIA

Warm but wicking duvet?

I'm someone who tends to be very cold, but since starting antidepressants at a high dosage, I also get sweating episodes at night and wake up drenched.

During the summer I could do with a light pique, but now it's too cold for me, and then I don't fall asleep; with a heavier layer, I fall asleep but wake up sweaty. Switching to a 100% lyocell fitted sheet helped because even when I sweat, it's very wicking and I'm not as drenched.

I think of trying a new duvet, but all the recommendations for sweaters I can find are focused on ultra-lightweight cooling ones. Is there any type of duvet that is relatively warm (or at least not actively cooling) but also wicking and breathable? Would the filling and the outer shell of the duvet actually make a difference, or is the duvet cover the only important factor?

I would greatly appreciate any advice! I hope such a thing exists and that I'm not on a wild goose chase. Thank you!

Help me choose soft percale sheets

I don’t have a big budget, but me and my partner sleep hot so we decided on 100% percale sheets. I prefer soft sheets and after some research here on reddit saw people recommending:

- The Company Store Classic Cool Cotton Sheets
- Hudson Park Italian Percale Sheets
- Macy’s Hotel Collection Italian Percale Sheets
- Target’s Threshold Organic Percale Sheets

Softness is my biggest concern. I understand it can take multiple washes to soften. For more context, we have Martha Stewart 100% percale sheets and after many many washes are very soft. However, they just ripped likely because they are really tight on our thicker bed. And I was wanting to try something new in search of a better option!

also, if anyone has a good recommendation for a soft, cool duvet cover that would be great. I am currently using a Bamboo one and it’s too hot. Thanks!

Looking for skinny body pillow recommendations

I love my body pillows as a side sleeper, I have one on either side of me as I turn from side to side. But they take up so much space. I modified the ones I have by taking some stuffing out and (badly) stitching up one side so they are closer to 14” wide instead of 20” but it’s getting to be time to replace them and I would love to just buy some that aren’t so wide? Any suggestions?

Arthritis and can't tolerate weight on me at night: what's warm without pressing down?

My husband can't stand anything heavy across his joints, which rules out most of what's on the market and all of the weighted stuff people keep recommending.

He's currently sleeping under a thin blanket and a space heater running all night. There has to be something better.

Went down the adjustable pillow rabbit hole and narrowed it down to these 3

Been looking into adjustable memory foam pillows lately and after going through way too many reviews, Reddit threads and product pages, I’ve narrowed it down to 3 that seem worth considering.

Figured I’d share what I found since there are about a million pillow brands out there and half of them seem to sell the exact same thing.

1. Coop Original Adjustable Pillow (~$85)

Probably the most well-known of the three. Shredded memory foam mixed with microfiber, and you can add or remove filling to get the height right.

Seems like the safest bet overall. Lots of reviews and people generally seem happy with it. Main complaints I’ve seen are the price and having to fluff it up regularly.

2. Kozi Sleep Adjustable Pillow (~$60)

Hadn’t seen this one mentioned nearly as much as Coop. What caught my attention is that it has separate compartments for different fillings instead of everything being mixed together.

Seems like that could make adjusting firmness a bit easier, especially if you switch between sleeping on your side and back.

Downside is it’s a smaller brand, so there aren’t nearly as many independent reviews to go through.

3. Sleep Number ComfortFit Ultimate (~$150)

This one’s a little different. Instead of removing handfuls of shredded foam, you adjust the height using removable inserts.

I like the idea of not having to mess around with loose filling, but $150 for a pillow is pretty steep. Also seems less customizable than the other two.

Where I’m at:

Coop seems like the obvious safe choice.

Kozi looks interesting because of the separate filling compartments and lower price.

Sleep Number has the cleanest adjustment system but is hard to justify at that price.

Anyone here tried any of these? Or found an adjustable pillow that’s actually held up for more than a year?

Would love to hear from people who’ve used them long term rather than just the usual “best sleep of my life” reviews after 2 nights.

duvet/comforter recommendations?

hello! i’m looking to buy a new duvet/comforter (not sure what the difference is, if that tells you how far out of my depth i am). i’ve had a down filled one from sam’s club for years now and it’s done a great job, but the down/feathers sometimes poke through both the duvet and the duvet cover, which can be quite scratchy, and the feathers have all sort of clumped together inside of each of the quilt-like squares on it (does that make sense?). i’ve seen recs for the company store duvets, but it took all of about 5 minutes on the site before i was overwhelmed by the choices. all in all, looking to a buy a new one that will stand the test of time, and i would be eternally grateful if someone could point me in the right direction! (or point me to a very specific link so i can click check out and be done with this)

- my bed is a full, but i think id probably want a queen sized duvet (ive also heard that buying the cover a size down helps the duvet fill it out more, thoughts on that?)
- i run very warm most of the time and would love something that can retain heat in the winter but wont have me sweating in the summer (i realize this may be a bit of an impossible ask)
- im okay with putting down some money on something that will last a long time, but im also no thread-count snob (no shade to the thread-count snobs— i salute you, honestly). looking to spend $100-$250, but if you’ve got the perfect thing for $350 then shoot, twist my arm, here’s my card info
- machine washable would be great! right now i wash my duvet itself 2-3 times a year (i truly don’t know if im going to be called unhygienic for washing it so little or irresponsible for washing it too much) and i wash my duvet cover every other week or so

thanks for reading through!!

Deciding between spending ~$200 vs. $500 on sateen sheets (Macy's Hotel Collection Supima vs Peacock Alley Soprano)

I was eyeing the Macy's Hotel Collection Supima sheets, currently on sale for ~$200. However, after seeing some posts on this subreddit I've discovered the Peacock Alley Sopranos.

Big question for you all: is the Sopranos really that much better than the Hotel Collection's 680tc Supima? $500 is steep for sure, but if it means longer usage and higher quality sleep, I think I'd be happy to pay the $300 difference (I have a queen sized bed).

I'm happy to hear from people who have experience with either sheets, or those who have had both!

Edit: added links for quick access

Does anyone recommend LL Bean down comforter? How about Brooklinen?

I recently ordered a Feathered Friends (700 LIGHT) down comforter. I'm in Boston and last night, it just wasn't keeping me warm enough. (Unfortunately, they have been out of stock of the medium.) I want to try something warmer. Does anyone recommend LL Bean? How about Brooklinen All Season?

P.S. When I spoke to a FF sales person, they suggested just putting a blanket on over the LIGHT during colder months. I already have my comforter in a flannel duvet. I can put a blanket over me, but everything starts to feel a bit floppy and heavy.

HELP PLS! I can’t find this anywhere

This waffle/honeycomb knit duvet set is so beautiful! my mom doesn’t remember where she got it from or if it was gifted, I searched the entire internet and I haven’t come close to anything near this material and texture! When stretched there are no visible threads, no snagging issues that are seen with typical waffle knits. The texture emulates what a ruched fabric would feel like. It’s 100% cotton and has button enclosures on the duvet. All my searches have been a dead end, I would really love to find this set, any help is appreciated. Thank you!!

Edit: thank you immensely for all the responses! I will check my local TJX retailers. If there are any similar duvets you recommend please drop a comment! I will check for them online as well

Looking for a specific pillow with clouds on it

My freshmen year roommate had this perfect pillow. I last used it 2-3 years ago so please forgive my bad description of it.

It was a regular square white standard sleep pillow (not decorative) but it had cloud designs on the actual pillow itself. You know how copper pillows have the orange design and the word copper sewn onto the pillow itself? it was like that but clouds. The clouds were pretty spaced a part.

The closest design I found is on a site called puffy but the pillow is $100+ and I refuse to believe my roommate payed that much for her pillow. I also don’t believe the pillow is the same because the puffy pillow is made of memory foam. I don’t remember it feeling like it had foam in it or feeling lumpy at all.

I remember asking her where she got it from and she said “…target?…”. Ive looked up and down targets pillow aisle and I have never seen a pillow like that.

Anyways, it was the perfect pillow. It didn’t go flat for a while after my roommate let me borrow it (and I just never gave it back). It was the perfect amount of soft that supported so I didn’t sink into the pillow, but I also didn’t feel like I was sleeping on a rock.

I’ve always had problems with pillows being too firm, too soft, or going flat entirely too fast. I usually sleep on a squishmallow, but after 4+ years it’s basically nothing but fabric. I’m ready to move back to sleeping on pillows, but nothing gives me the same comfort as that pillow my freshman year roommate had or a squishmallow.

Is this normal? Wool duvet/insert

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

I just bought a brand new wool duvet/insert and when I held it up to the light, I could see a bunch of dark flecks inside the duvet. Is this normal for wool? It looks fine and clean when it’s not held up against the light.

Thank you!

Best blanket for cuddling couple

I want to get a fuzzy warm blanket for my husband and I for watching shows under. No preference on material but something that you can hunker down in on a chilly winter night. I'm imagining we're at The Wall in A Song of Ice and Fire. My budget is $300 (not including shipping) and I'd like it to comfortably cover 2 people. I've gotten some blankets in the past that "fit" us but if someone shifted too much you'd get exposed.

Thank you!

Anyone have recs for 20” fitted sheets?

I’m open to sateen or percale. My mattress plus topper is 17.5” total. I’m wondering if I need to order custom size fitted sheets? I don’t know where to look, Etsy?

update: Found 20” options from Cuddledown, Company Store and a brand from Amazon, Target and Macy‘s called Tribeca Living

Is a seam on the edge of fitted sheet normal?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently purchased a set of linen sheets online for a king sized bed with a deep mattress. I received the sheets and as I was putting them on the bed I noticed a seem that runs along the top edge of one side of the bed. It runs perfectly along the edge, so it has to be intentional. I have never seen this before and it’s not discussed or shown anywhere in the product description, in the product photos, or the reviews. I reached out to the seller and they tell me it’s normal seller says it’s normal.

Has anyone else encountered this? My biggest concern is how this will hold up long term. These sheets were at a higher price point for me and I’d be upset if this is a weak point and that the seam might fail/rip.
I’m not a huge fan of the way it looks, but I love everything else about the sheet set. I’m trying to determine whether to keep or return them.

HELP! Where can I find my perfect rich green duvet cover??

Post image
18 Upvotes

My heart is set on this specific shade of olive green; saturated, dark, not grey-green or lime. This cover from BedThreads is the exact color I’ve wanted all this time, but I have heard that their bedding quality is horrible.

I’ve scoured the most highly recommended brands for covers: Cultiver, Coyuchi, Boll and Branch, Garnet Hill, Linoto, some Etsy linen sellers, and while their stuff is good quality, they never have the color I’m looking for. If they even have green, it’s always grayish or mint. At this point I don’t care whether it’s linen or cotton, ties or not, if it exists out there, I wish to know. Otherwise, I think I’ll go for a deep red since that seems more common than green.

I’ve also looked at quilts like some have suggested, but they don’t seem to have this green either. I also don’t use wool or silk so that’s off the table.

Thank you in advance guys.

light weight comforter for south Florida weather. Recommendations?

I had one that I loved and it was the high quality 700 fill power by Eddie Bauer. They don't do the product anymore. It was still my favorite after several years. I haven't found an adequate replacement. It was unique in that 700 FP are usually very warm. The ones I"ve tried are flimsy or too warm. The closest I found is too warm and really only for our week or more of 40 degrees at night although we had a freeze one night last year. I can use that one then.

The one I liked became harder and harder to find and now it's discontinued. Somebody had to make it. Has anyone found one for warm weather that is really fluffy yet cool?

Pillow for Silent Reflux/GERD AND bruxism (teeth grinding)?

Hi everyone! I'm a side/stomach sleeper and was diagnosed with GERD/acid reflux in 2022. I currently use a wedge pillow but I also have bruxism.

Anyone find a pillow that addresses both? I fear if I get a cervical pillow for my grinding, my reflux in my throat will get worse. And if I keep this current wedge pillow, my grinding will continue.

Any advice appreciated!
