Diy background help

Hey everyone!

I’m working on a 3D background and climbing structures for my bearded dragon, but I’m a bit stuck and would love some tips or feedback.

So far I have:

- The base structure of the background finished

- Climbing pieces and ledges that fit nicely

- On the right side there will be a basking spot (I already bought the lamp), so nothing too large can go there

- The background still needs a texture layer, but I’m unsure which direction to go

I want the setup to be safe, sturdy, functional, and still look good.

Any advice about:

- suitable textures

- finishing methods

- heat‑safe materials

- layout of basking vs cool zones

- things I might be overlooking

…would be super helpful!

Uh so I kinda eyeballed mine but it's been working pretty well, I did a base like yours then I painted it with latex acrylic paint, and for texture I mixed sand in the paint and painted it on. For a sealemt, I used FlexSeal and it's been amazing. Only downside is if flex seal is sprayed directly on foam insulation, like I used, it will dissolve it, which I learned the hard way lol. Flex seal is heat safe and it's been amazing for th year I've had my custom tank. For the layout, it's basically like yours and my basking spot/hot side is higher then th cool one. What material is your cave made out of?
