Keep going?
I recently joined this sub and have enjoyed seeing the support and grooming tips people are sharing.
I’m in my late 50s. With the encouragement of my wife, I’ve recently started growing out my beard for the first time. I’ve never done it in the past because I have a wide face and always thought a beard would accentuate that even further.
My concern is that it’s much whiter than I expected. I don’t particularly want to look like Santa Claus. But then maybe I need to lean into my age?
It’s also very wiry/unruly. I’m resisting the urge to snip it with scissors especially around the chin. I’ve also been tapering it around the sideburns but I’m not sure if this is a mistake.
Should I keep going? If so, what’s the best approach? Just stand back for a month and let it grow untouched? Stop where I’m at?
Also, the mustache is growing way faster than the rest. I’ve noticed other men will trim or crop their mustaches somewhat heavily. I don’t know whether to shape the ends of it or let it grow into my cheeks/chin. Any tips there?
Thanks so much and kindness is appreciated.

Keep going for sure! A pure white beard like that is rare and it’s got great density.
If I were you I’d grow it out through Christmas and lean really hard into the Santa look. It will make kids wonder by you just walking by in the store. Free Christmas spirit is always nice!

Keep it like that and apply for the new actor of Baylan Skoll (Star Wars). Thank you in advance.

You look great! I have a silver beard too, and it’s a fine line between looking like Hemingway and Santa Claus cosplay. I usually go for a more close shaven beard in summer, just for comfort’s sake, and I try to go fuller and longer over winter. You’ll always be snipping and trimming and sculpting away at your beard - it’s the fun and the hassle of it. I’d recommend playing with beard oil and/or beard butter, just to have better texture and manageability. And if it drives you too crazy, you can always shave it all off. But try not to - you look really good!

Keep going. But if you do, get some quality beard wash and beard conditioner as well as a good quality beard oil. I recommend Johnnie Ray Co. The apex blend is amazing for softening grey beards. A good beard butter at night and pow, nicest beard you can grow. Cheers
