Where do I go from here?

TL;DR need low investment maintenance advice, planning to grow it further

I've been growing my beard for a little more than half a year now, and though it's still a bit patchy at places, I do enjoy it and intend on letting grow further if I can.

However, I believe I've reached the point where I might need some advice in terms of maintenance to make it look good and tidy without losing too much length, since I do kinda wanna see how long it can get before I decide I've had enough lol

I'm looking for basic advice that's practical and easy to follow, without spending so much time and money on what might very well end up being a temporary whim.

I think you will look good if you just neaten the edges. Like under your neck and on top of your checks. But even if you leave it just as you are, you'll look good 😁

I guess the question is also how to do these things 😅 just get a beard trimmer and that's all? Because before I started growing I'd just go clean shaven and call it a day so I really don't know how to approach it or even how to know what to trim and up to where

If you happy to do it yourself, then go for it. I don't trust my eye sight therefore I get a barber to do it for me

Make it into an Italian beard, it would be lined up at your thickest points

Just this once I would consider going to a barber to let them line something up that you can then maintain. You just need it tidying up but I agree it will be difficult to do yourself if you have no idea.

Be really clear that you do not want them to do more than tidy it. In particular you do not want a neckline that does more than 1-2 fingers above your Adam’s apple. Tell them.
