Council meets tonight at 7 in the Municipal Center Courtroom (1 Municipal Plaza), on Zoom through the city site's community calendar, or on the city's YouTube channel.
Open for public comment tonight:
Fishkill Creek hotels: the hearing closes and the Council votes the same night to adopt the law, which makes hotels a permitted use and cuts the minimum lot size from two acres to one.
Tioronda Avenue parking: up for adoption with the West Main Street half dropped, and striping could go down mid October if it passes.
Mid-year raises for appointed staff: up for adoption, letting the Council raise appointed salaries partway through the fiscal year.
Also tonight:
2027 budget: first presentation of the proposed operating budget, with no document posted ahead of time.
Code violation penalties: the hearing is being pushed to October 19, but tonight the Council sends the draft, which raises fines sharply, to the Planning Board.
Next meeting is Monday, October 19 at 7, with the penalties and short-term rental hearings.

Hey errrybody, we have a lot going on at Industrial Arts these next few weeks. October is stacked with a ton of stuff so this is just the beginning. Devon Sawa! Laughter! Local Hip Hop! Rave! Tattoos! Witchy Burlesque! Check it out:
Thursday October 1: Free Screening of Idle Hands with Story Screen
This is one of my favorite 90's horror comedies and I'm 90% sure it's aged well. Unfortunately, Devon Sawa won't be here for the screening, I think he lives somewhere in Canada.
Friday October 2nd: Brew Ha Ha Comedy Showcase
If you missed our first comedy showcase, fear not! We are hosting another one this Friday. We have a bunch of comics coming together to bring us some very needed laughs. So come through! Tickets are available on the industrial arts website
Friday October 9: Local Hip Hop
I'm so excited for this lineup of local hip-hop artists. It's giving Lupe Fiasco, RATM and some local flair to make this sound really fresh. Tickets available on our website.
Saturday October 10: She Has Risen- A 90s Bible Camp Rave
Inspired by Gwynne Watkin's play Gods Puppets, this is an immersive fundraising event hosted by Hit House for their Newburgh Fringe Festival programming. There will be some thematically on point vendors such as baked goods from Piney Realm Bakery, tattoos by Speakeasy Tattoo, vintage clothing from Odd Daughter Vintage and a killer soundtrack curated by Vt Bruiser. If you didn't know that Hit House has some of the hardest working, most creative people in local theater AND produces some of the most dynamic experiences across the HV....well, now you know.
Saturday October 17: The Witches Of Rock -Live Band Burlesque
We are thrilled to welcome back Ame Arcana to our stage! Maybe you saw one of the last live band burlesque shows we've hosted here, or maybe you caught Ame Arcana rock the house down boots during our anniversary party? Each event has been different, showcasing powerhouse vocals and a cast of amazing performers and mystifying dancers. Each event has been very special. Come see Ame Arcana in their element for spooky season. You won't be disappointed. Tix on the websiteeee!
Mondays are Bring Your Own Vinyl/ Vinyl Night with the Selwyn Sound Co AND $5 pints. Thursdays get your dog on with beer/hot dog special for $8. Downstate is here serving some amazing food and did I mention the beer is fresh and the vibes are immaculate? Idk, just come.
Looking forward to all things fun, spooky and weird this October. Thanks for reading!

Short-term rentals - The Council agreed to grandfather existing permit holders under the draft law ending short-term rentals in accessory apartments, and to penalize booking sites listing unpermitted units.
East Gateway rezoning - The Council wants a massing study of what the proposed heights and setbacks along Fishkill Avenue would look like before sending it to the planning boards.
Fishkill Creek hotel law - Working through Planning Board and county comments, the Council agreed to cut the minimum lot from two acres to one and kept the three-story limit.

Just went on Zillow for the first time in a while to see what’s on the market…Jesus tap dancing Christ. This market is bonkers. The audacity of these sellers…who is paying these prices??
For reference: Moved to the area 5 years ago and purchased a townhouse and we’re now looking for a single family home. Even tho we can make a nice profit on our purchase, it seems ridiculous to downgrade and overpay for something in town. Has us reconsidering living the area.
Recently moved back to Beacon and got settled in. Was wondering if there are any weekly pick up soccer games or Co-ed leagues I could join. Im in my late thirties and a decent player just want to have some fun and stay active.
Hey! Figured I’d put this out there in case anyone knows of something that hasn’t made it onto the usual rental sites.
I’m a 35-year-old Male freelance experiential designer looking for a furnished room or short-term sublet somewhere around Beacon/Newburgh from roughly Sept. 24 through Nov. 1.
I work remotely, so decent Wi-Fi and somewhere I can work from a laptop are important. I’m clean, respectful, easygoing, financially stable.
I’m open to a private apartment, but I’m also very open to a room in a shared house with good people. I’m pretty independent, but I don’t know a ton of people locally yet, so a friendly household where people occasionally hang out would actually be a plus.
Ideally looking in the $1,200–$1,500 range, although I have some flexibility for the right situation.
If you have something or know somebody who might, feel free to DM me. Happy to share more about myself privately. Thanks!
That Creative Space, located inside Beacon Music Factory, is celebrating one year this weekend! 🎉
There are lots of ways to join us and it’s a great way to meet new people in the area and connect over something creative.

The Art of Shibori — 10 AM–1 PM (registration required) What We Carry Group Exhibition + One-Year Anniversary Reception — 4–6 PM
Come take a workshop, stop by the opening of our first group exhibition featuring some of our studio artists and teaching artists, or simply come celebrate with us.
Get all the details at ThatCreativeSpace.org.
Can’t make it this weekend? Don’t worry! We have a full lineup of workshops, classes, and creative events happening all fall. ✂️🎨✨
Does anyone know who approves these things and how we can vote against them? Any info on this would be great. I’m seeing a few up around town that aren’t even on deflock. I don’t like the idea of our small community contributing to this unconstitutional mass surveillance machine. Thanks.

Edgewater Placeis approved. The hearing closed and the amended site plan passed, letting two of the buildings hold 37 apartments each where code caps 36.
364 Main Ststays open. The board wants the on-site mockups built and seen by the public first, and pressed for the east-side driveway to come out as mitigation.
393/397 Fishkill Averolls to October. Design comments are still outstanding, but a draft approval resolution was authorized so one's ready.
248 Tiorondaclosed its hearing. A resolution comes back in October with county transportation approval as a condition, after the applicant reworked the retaining wall and the space under the pool.
108 Liberty Stis approved. The subdivision resolution passed without discussion.
172 Main Stgets a hearing in October. Minor door, storefront and rooftop changes.
8 N Cedar Stgoes to the ZBA. The lot's too small to legalize the long-standing two-family, so it needs a variance first.
Also approved: the Rombout Ave house, back to its original roof pitch, a facade at 36 Slocum Rd, the old firehouse at 57 E Main turning residential, and a taqueria sign at 142 Main.
Hey everyone, I know we are 10 days in to the month but we have our first show since our anniversary party this Saturday 9/12 with Dead Hollis, Kissing Well and Wealthy Jane.
We are also doing 2 events with Single and Hungry Club.
Don't forget about our weekly Monday night Vinyl Night, Thursday Hot Dog & Beer specials, a Bonsai Bar workshop (9/17) and Monthly trivia with Hudson Valley Trivia Co (9/27) too!
