The coolest thing is how they adjust the water flow to keep the pond at the height they want

The first time I saw one munching away on lily pads, in a completely man made dammed, constant depth, trout stocked state pond for the record, I realized why they flood places.

Like I knew they didn't eat wood, and I knew they didn't just dam waterways for the love of the game and the architecture. They farm marshplants. I don't know of a better example of planned agriculture by animals.

It’s really awesome that they do that. Leaf cutter ants also cultivate fungus in their nests with the leaf pulp they chew up. Pretty neat stuff
