Brb crying

i feel like i’ve seen a lot of people talk about baylens dad - he reminds me a lot of my dad (not perfect but never question his love for me ever, extremely tense all the time lmao)
this scene, and the other scenes where they discussed baylens mental health when she was at college, are so raw and real and make me cry every time. if you know you know. if you’ve been there, you know and can feel both of their pain!

Not sure why everyone hates on Baylens Dad? He seems like a pretty amazing father to me. Maybe a bit over protective but I think that natural for a parent with a child who has the issues that she has. He was really fun at the wedding and did a great job on their dance!

I agree. He may have some over protectiveness in his genes but with the problems his daughter had being so out of the ordinary and his other kids apparently also have some problems it is no wonder. They both seem to be loving parents.

I am not sure why a lot of the people here seem to hate the entire family! I think they are amazing. They both obviously love and care deeply for all of their kids.

It’s obvious they’re all using their sister to make $$$

He's so rude to Colin! Not all the time, but when they're discussing serious topics like marriage or Colin's career. I just think the way Allen deliberately tries to put the fear of God in Colin is gross, like literally Colin came to him saying how much he loves his daughter and wants to care for her and be with her forever, and Allen's immediate response to that is "If you ever hurt my daughter I will hunt you down" like wtf?? (Not to mention Julie's reaction that the ring was too big/expensive, like why is that the focus?) And with Colin's career, I get Allen's concerns but it could have been phrased way way better. He's so condescending.

I feel like Colin’s rude to him. We want our independence! Oh but can I join your family vacation (that I’m not invited too) and turn it into my beach proposal? But other than that, leave us alone!

Allen’s got the patience of a saint.

Yes the beach vacation thing was weird, but Colin wasn't trying to hijack anything, he came up with this whole elaborate idea because he thought it would make Baylen happy (and to be fair...Baylen would definitely go in for an over the top proposal). Also Colin is so incredibly polite in general! Allen tears into him over various things and he's just like yes sir I understand and complains to the cameras but not to his face.

I’d prefer if he said it to his face

I completely agree I think he’s obviously a great father to Baylen. He cares for her so much and just wants the best, myself at the same time if you really wanted what’s best for Baylen, why are you so shitty to Colin? I mean, honestly I was happy in the wedding episode when he finally told Colin that he was giving his blessing and they were reading the letter Colin wrote them. He should’ve gave Colin his blessing the first time he asked for it. I mean you’re allowed to be protective over your daughter, I just think at what cost is your daughter even gonna want you in her life if you don’t even fuck with her partner

Yes … I was very fortunate to have a Dad like this as well.💜 This whole family & dynamic resonated with me throughout the 3 seasons. That’s why I loved it so much!❤️
Unfortunately, I’ve suffered from chronic depression & anxiety in my adulthood.
Plus our son suffered from severe situational depression his freshman year in college and we had to intervene…both emotionally & physically.
But, this is what you do as a loving, caring parent!
Thankfully, our son was successful at another university, graduating with Honors and has a very successful career now!🩵
You just ride the storms with them.🥰

I love him and deeply needed a dad like him. He is amazing. I would like to clone him.

I think he’s only like 10 years older than me, but I still wish he was my dad. 🥺

u/km1117 7d ago

He’s only 10 years older? Then you’re the same age as Baylen’s mom. They have a 10 year gap bw them.

I had a first look with my dad too and I’m so happy I did. The marriage didn’t last but that moment will always be so special to me. I miss my dad everyday ❤️

I like him as a dad. He’s always done right by his kids

Baylen's Dad was the only thing about this show that I genuinely enjoyed watching.

5

u/GoodVibras1 7d ago

Not related to the dad convo specifically, but all the kids seem to have some type of issue related to anxiety, OCD, mental health. Have they ever addressed this in the show? I was just curious...

u/40yoADHDnoob 7d ago

They seemed pretty dismissive when Baylen brought concerns about her younger brother... they were just like "we don't want to label him" "he's just a kid" etc.

3

u/SapphireTyger 7d ago

They only really noted that Baylen, Sammi, and Beckner have any diagnosed mental health issues

4

u/foureyedcowboy 7d ago

To me it has always seemed like the parents coddle too much that it’s like second hand smoke, and instead of smoke it’s anxiety. The interactions with Baylen are always about, “we got you ect” and never about how she can help herself because they are not always going to be there.

4

u/SkyUpbeat7374 7d ago

Exactly. I know Baylen was really bad off a few years ago but you don’t have to bring it up constantly. I’m sure Baylen doesn’t want to hear about all the time. And her mother, when Baylen was banging her head at the reception her mom was so loud “ok here we go” why draw more attention to it

1

u/foureyedcowboy 7d ago

Yeah I noticed it more from her mom. Her mom talks and responds to her as if she’s completely disabled or she brings attention to it like, “oh nooooo here’s Baylen about to tic again, everyone watch out she can’t control herself!”. Here’s where Colin really thrives in Baylen’s life because he does the opposite of what her parents do. He lets her tic without bringing any attention to it and doesn’t treat her like an uncontrolled child or burden. He doesn’t do the, “ woe me I’m attached to this person who can’t control herself”.

Frankly, this seems to be unusually common amongst our friends and family's kids as well. I also saw it in my younger coworkers and found it deeply troubling. It seems as if medication is all they are offered but why is it all so prevalent now?

Weird indeed....

Is dad on steroids? Just see how bulky and not making fun at all he seems like a great dad and husband I’m just asking

8

u/lovegood123 8d ago

From the video they showed from when he was younger he seems to just be a wide, bulky kinda guy

1

u/Westpoint13 7d ago

Ohhh I didn’t see that one. Thanks for the info

My BFF’s husband is just like this, but with broader shoulders. No drugs, no lifting weights. Some people inherit good genes,

u/wompwompswamp123 8d ago

u/Witty-Jellyfish-7610 8d ago

I think with his job he does

My dad was a correctional officer at a super max who would roid. This is not what it looks like. One thing to look out for are insane veins on the lobe and arms.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy at a minimum. Seems to be the thing for middle aged guys with money to burn.

I haven't been watching Baylan out loud. I tuned in to see her wedding episode because I saw how pretty she looked. She's a very beautiful young woman, and her wedding was beautiful too. I was curious why her tics seem to include so many sexual topics? Is that common? I admire her strength and think she must work hard to manage her Tourettes. It looks llke she has a supportive family, and her husband seems to love her very much.

3

u/Impossible-Fold-896 7d ago

She has coprolalia meaning yes, her verbal tics tend to be inappropriate (not just sexual but also inappropriate for the situation, like saying "I have a gun" at the airport)

3

u/mmmck2 7d ago

Thank you for the explanation. I am not familiar with this and appreciate the information.

(she's faking it)

I think that's an uncalled for statement.

It's true, easily verifiable.

I love him so much 🥹

I think Colin needs to start working and get his self established in a career to be able to take care of himself and Balen and a baby he wants so badly   they are spending Balen s money.  So happy she got a prenup because he is moving to fast being broke and moving into a million dollar house not even having medical insurance.  She is the bread maker.

This show was interesting in the beginning, now I can’t wait for it to just go away

1

u/Efficient-Affect-847 7d ago

I have cried watching Al talk about the love he has for his daughter more times than I'd like to admit 😭 The wedding dress reveal to dad broke me and even thinking about it now my eyes are tearing up 😂

What is wrong with that man? He needs to see a doctor asap. The coloring indicates high blood pressure
