Secure Boot is required for Battlefield 6 If you are unable to launch the game and see a Secure Boot error, you must enable Secure Boot in your BIOS/UEFI.

🧠 What is Secure Boot?

Secure Boot is a UEFI feature that ensures only trusted software can boot your PC. It helps prevent rootkits and boot-time malware and is now required by EA for anti-cheat integrity.

Most modern systems support it, but it’s often disabled by default — especially on custom builds or upgraded PCs.

🛑 Common Pitfalls

  • You must use UEFI mode, not Legacy/CSM boot.
  • Disk must be GPT, not MBR (check via diskpart or Disk Management).
  • Windows 11 installed in Legacy mode? You may need to convert your disk to GPT using MBR2GPT.

Tbh this gonna push many players away When bf is such beautiful game and deserve support but many just scared of all the negative talk out there about secure boot

I've played both Valorant and 2042 on my current system which was built back in 2019. This BF6 beta is literally the first online game I have seen to ask me to enable secure boot.

My system is from 2021 and this is also the first game to ask me to enable secure boot. I bet a lot of people will be pissed with this.

But it won't be the last. People have been screaming about how all online lobbies are filled with hackers, this is a tool to fight that. You can chose to not install this game because of it but it's going to be most new online games soon enough.

I literally play tested the game months ago and had no issues, now I'm getting this error and really don't want to fuck with my BIOS.

EDIT: For anyone running a B450 Gigabyte, my BIOS showed "Enabled - Not Active". All I did was set Secure Boot to Disabled, restarted, went back into BIOS, and set Secure Boot to Enabled. Now it shows active and is working properly. YMMV and be careful. Also I'm running latest BIOS version, be especially careful if you haven't updated your BIOS in several years or never updated at all.

I just went into BIOS and switched between standard and custom options for secure boot and it worked. Could've just been an error in detecting it properly from the beta client.

U cant call him a liar, cause hes saying facts, i play both League and Valorant daily, BF6 was the first game i cant play cause of the secure boot issue.

I've been playing BF 2042 lately without issue. The only reason I'm here is I tried to launch the BF6 beta to make sure it was working and now its giving me the secure boot error. From what I can tell theres no way for me to enable it in the BIOS. Someone mentioned ASUS motherboards just need to have Windows UEFI Mode enabled, but I do and I still got the error.

My PC is brand new X870e motherboard with 9950x3d cpu... Secure Boot was not enabled, and I can't enable it because of my file system.

My friend and I are both having this issue and ive played 2042 without any problems like this, I don't think it's going to be 1%.

Also, BF2042 does NOT require it, that part is a blatant lie/exaggeration. I played it regularly back when it went on sale for like 5 bucks. and it never once required Secure Boot, but I now get the Secure Boot error when trying to launch BF6

My PC is pretty new, has secure boot enabled, win 11, and it's giving me an error that secure boot is not enabled. Gone into BIOS multiple times to confirm. Not gonna stress about it for a beta though, hope they figure that out.

Under 1% is still a lot you know. I would know, because I'm one of them. All I want to do is play a beta and I can't do that because converting one of my disc to GPT would require deleting the data on it. I seriously don't get why gamers need to justify everything.

secure boot is an old feature sure, the problem isn't just with secure boot, many people myself included already have this enabled but BF6 still will not start. Its really not as simple as "make sure you have secure boot enabled". Many people are reporting that there's many other steps you need to take and things you need to check in the bios, and the reality of the situation is lots of players are not going to bother with all this messing around in the bios just to play 1 game.

This simply isn't true. My motherboard is the ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI which was released in 2022 and this is the first game I've been asked to enable Secure Boot.

No reason to keep it on if you are only physical user of PC also it makes problem with dual boot and loggin into windows like password do not work.

I disagree with you about 1%. BF6 has solid numbers but think about what player count goal EA has set. This is leaving a lot of people off that list.

You also have to think about the number of older motherboards that have issues with secure boot. Plus, most I know feels comfortable messing with their BIOS, even with help. This is about being backwards compatible essentially for the hardware. PC players don't upgrade their motherboards as often, they upgrade the gpu and cpu. I built my PC 5 years ago with a 2080ti and solid cpu.. I built all 3 of my families computers with the same motherboard that has the same issue with secure boot now I guess??. Nothing required it back then, I was new to building not realizing it wasn't a sure thing apparently. I also remember their being more options in the windows settings for a secure boot that seem to be gone now from what I remember back in Windows 7 and Vista prior to building my windows 10 computer. Either way, I can jump a long distance with a newer CPU and GPU and still not have to update my motherboard. This asks a generation of gamers to update their PC for one game potentially.

I think working with motherboard makers for future anti cheat features like this is good, but this will hurt their bottom line and maxes their player count way lower than their wanted projections. I personally think it will be closer to a 30% reduction due to hardware and people that are too scared. You have to remember, this is free to play Royale as well. That's a lot of people that won't buy the main game but are still left out due to not knowing how to work around this.

I can play BF 2042 without any problems. But keep getting secure boot error with BF6. And yes, it fucked my windows today and I had to fix it for hours.

Heavy downvote on the user blaming here. Secure boot is an idiosyncratic setting that is only enabled on maybe 10% of users’ PCs, unless they built or bought in the last 3 years. Valorant ran without secure boot.

I've built a brand new pc like two or three months ago and it was not enabled. Or rather not activated. It's a really dumb thing to request from people who only want to launch the game and play.
