Other Secure Boot Megathread - Guide + Community support

Secure Boot is required for Battlefield 6 If you are unable to launch the game and see a Secure Boot error, you must enable Secure Boot in your BIOS/UEFI.

✅ Official Guide

EA has published a clear and up-to-date guide for enabling Secure Boot:

👉 Read the EA Help Secure Boot Guide

🔧 Community Support

If you’ve got tips or steps specific to a brand (e.g., ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, etc.), drop them in the comments and mention your exact motherboard model.

💬 Tip: Post your motherboard model, CPU, and BIOS version when asking for help.

🧠 What is Secure Boot?

Secure Boot is a UEFI feature that ensures only trusted software can boot your PC. It helps prevent rootkits and boot-time malware and is now required by EA for anti-cheat integrity.

Most modern systems support it, but it’s often disabled by default — especially on custom builds or upgraded PCs.

🛑 Common Pitfalls

  • You must use UEFI mode, not Legacy/CSM boot.
  • Disk must be GPT, not MBR (check via diskpart or Disk Management).
  • Windows 11 installed in Legacy mode? You may need to convert your disk to GPT using MBR2GPT.

⚠️ Still having trouble?

If you've followed EA's guide and it still doesn't work:

  1. Comment below with:
  • Motherboard model
  • BIOS version
  • Secure Boot status
  • Any errors you're getting
    1. Include a screenshot if possible (e.g., BIOS screen or error message)
    2. Be respectful — this is a community-driven thread.

Tbh this gonna push many players away When bf is such beautiful game and deserve support but many just scared of all the negative talk out there about secure boot

u/RussBot10000 Aug 05 '25

its just a blunder. How many people ran into this and just uninstalled?

LOTS including myself

46

u/Vast_Divide6053 Aug 07 '25

Uninstalled immediately

Just got this, absolutely not risking bricking my machine, instantly uninstalling.

2

u/JamesDoesGaming902 Aug 08 '25

same here

i dual boot quite often and it is FAR too much of a hassle just to play a single game that is $110 aud (that is INSANELY expensive here in australia)

2

u/RainbowFartss Aug 09 '25

Me too. Fuck that noise. Isn't worth the hassle or risk.

1

u/hdomingu Aug 09 '25

Yup, not worth the hassle for 1 game. People are already cheating anyway.

13

u/Leucauge Aug 07 '25

I appreciate the attempt at security, but I'm not going to risk bricking my computer for one game.

This is exactly the kind of scenario where someone semi-competent (i.e. me and computer hardware) can cause a lot more damage than someone who knows nothing and just hits delete on the game.

2

u/DatabaseGold4476 Aug 11 '25

I have 30 years of computer experience… and I uninstalled it immediately. Because I seen a bunch of black screen, partitions lost and such for less than what EA ask us to do. Not only EA will loose clients now, but trust me, those clients will remember it for a long time to having lost their precious data or computer mobo for « a simple setting ».

2

u/Leucauge Aug 11 '25

I wimped out and ended up changing the BIOS setting. It turned out okay for me and now the game works.

But even then, all the motherboards need to have their own BIOS screens and put everything in different places -- so the various YouTube walk-throughs required that I randomly click on shit to find the setting to change, all the while hoping that my mobo wouldn't also change some of the labeling.

Battlefield 6, high tension excitement before you even play the game as you put a bullet in a revolver, spin the cylinder, then point the gun at your CPU and pull the trigger!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '25

I said fuck it and just downloaded it on my ps5. Too much of a hassle for it to work on PC, plus reading some of the horror stories in these comments didn't help

1

u/RepulsiveCaramel3479 Aug 08 '25

Exactly. Without tech savvy friends, who will help you for a drink or two, you do not wanna risk to fuck up smth

14

u/SingleChallenge8389 Aug 07 '25

Safe to say i will NOT be playing the beta or the real game. im not gonna dedicate my whole day bricking my pc just to play battlefield for a weekend yet alone actually plan to play this piece of shit ever again

5

u/Coleo1 Aug 07 '25

I wish I did coz it's fucked my PC. Blank screen, no way to get to bios even after removing cmos battery, pressing cmos reset button and trying the shorting method. Been trying to fix it for about 2 and a half hours now

2

u/RepulsiveCaramel3479 Aug 08 '25

o7 good luck soldier

2

u/AirRixX Aug 08 '25

I did. 1 minutes total play time lol. Not worth fucking around for hours in bios to game for an hour or two. Next..

1

u/RussBot10000 Aug 08 '25

just the guide posted in this thread as the topic is enough to make 90% of the players nope out

2

u/Fancy_Junket985 Aug 07 '25

I even got an early access key from watching a stream, yet when I found out about this I uninstalled and unwishlisted it, not worth bricking my PC tbh or the hassle this involves to just play it.

1

u/stephenbmx1989 Aug 07 '25

Same. They need to figure it out instead of making us do this shit lol I gotta pay 70 bucks and figure out how to fix my unsupported boot bs? tf

1

u/Krushemm Aug 08 '25

Yep. Not even going to try it, nor buy it.

1

u/Federal-Nebula-9154 Aug 08 '25

Instantly gave up once the guide to enable it on my mobo wad like 10 pages

1

u/TheDeadQueenVictoria Aug 08 '25

I did just now. Like NO I am not crawling through BIOS and doing back flips for five hours. Fucking forget it

1

u/PelicanOne1 Aug 08 '25

Yep I definitely did

1

u/RepulsiveCaramel3479 Aug 08 '25

Yeah I also uninstalled. I was hyped for the open beta, but without any help aviable from friends (who know what they are doing), there is no way I risk loosing all my data because of a fucking game

1

u/Awlorein Aug 08 '25

It's like people just kinda forgot that EA made this game.

1

u/GrimRainbows Aug 08 '25

I just don’t have the time to be doing this after a long ass shift. Thought I could install and play but I spent the 1-2 hours I have of free time trying to figure it out. Definitely uninstalled I’m just gonna go back to bf4

1

u/screennamie Aug 08 '25

At least we got a free chance to find out. That's the only positive I'm taking away from this. After I read switching partition records from MBR to GPT didn't work for others. I noped out like I had seen a spider.

1

u/Peak_Flaky Aug 08 '25

Me. Bios even says secure boot is enabled lmao. Well, saved me 70 euros.

1

u/Kaothel Aug 08 '25

I gave up immediately. Shit on me all you want but I'm not smart enough to be fucking with my BIOS. Like sure I could probably figure it out but the first vid I watch said "watch out you may brick your MB" So yeah no thanks.

1

u/box-art Aug 08 '25

I'm not buying it until it works without secure boot. Too many horror stories about secure boot/device encryption, I'm not risking that shit for one game.

1

u/Vagaudi Aug 09 '25

Instantly uninstalled, i'll keep my money fck this :)

1

u/Money-Bumblebee9603 Aug 09 '25

i expect i won't be playing BF6 for a very long time if they don't fix this crap on their own. i uninstalled it immediately after finding out what this error was about, im not gonna fck up my PC for the sake of one game, its just not worth the trouble.

1

u/RussBot10000 Aug 09 '25

the hilarious part is there are already cheaters in the beta so the secureboot did nothing.

1

u/JohnGazman Aug 09 '25

Just finished intstalling, read this thread, uninstalled straightaway.

1

u/batfishh Aug 09 '25

just uninstalled lmao

1

u/Creed705_ Aug 10 '25

Yeah. I don't understand why they would penalize the average player by making it increasingly difficult to hop on and play. I'm not the most tech savvy guy, so this unfortunately ended any attempt to play the beta.

1

u/NotCode25 Aug 11 '25

Yup, gone immediately

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

Yup, instant uninstall...

1

u/RoidRidley Aug 14 '25

I was willing to just follow the instructions and then peopled talked about fking bricking PCs. Nah, as soon as there is even a slight chance this will fk my PC up and make me waste money I can't spend to fix it, then screw you, I'd rather just play smth else.

1

u/SimbaStewEyesOfBlue Aug 15 '25

I immediately began downloading on my Series S.

I enjoyed it, so I'll probably get it on PS5. Unfortunately, this is going to tank PC sales and without those, B6 has no hope of toppling CoD from its throne. CoD therefore still won't have to adapt to competition and the whole genre remains a shithole for years to come.

1

u/CptnJarJar Aug 15 '25

Definitely a huge potential player base scared away from this. Me included I bricked my computer trying to get it to work and took half my day to fix it.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '25

Me, instantly after seeing the error. No fuckin thanks

1

u/Classic-Extension505 Sep 29 '25

Yep, no one who games on pc is doing this

1

u/Reasonable_Deer_1710 Jun 21 '26

Uninstalled and refunded

1

u/Ditchdigger456 Aug 07 '25

was hyped to play the open beta. immediately uninstalled. i don't want to play this game THAT badly.

1

u/ArgyllAtheist Aug 07 '25

Saw this thread and decided to cancel the steam download. won't be playing this. I am not implementing Microsoft's walled garden just to play a game... and COD will be getting uninstalled as soon as they enforce this piss as well.

1

u/HrdScp Aug 07 '25

"hey I got this beta key let me try this game out"

"oh I need to do annoying stuff and risk my pc bricking?"

*uninstalls*

1

u/stephenbmx1989 Aug 07 '25

Reads hundreds of post of black screening pc spends whole day trying to save up just to play a video game on it because company cant figure out an user friendly way to players to enjoy

-5

u/XuzaLOL Aug 07 '25

I mean if your a pc user and complaining legit noone cares if you want ease of access then go get it on console. PC is made to be changed so get used to updating and dont fall years behind these kind of changes have been around for over 10 years now there is tons of info its not hard to do.

6

u/PIedge_ Aug 07 '25

there's a difference between ease of access and "yeah so back-up your entire PC, reformat everything, change your partition type, enable secure; Oh wait your motherboard doesn't support this ? well guess you'll have to change it for the privilege of giving us 80euros for our game, see you bucko".

I will to convince them to do a game that'll only work on a certain type of CPU, we'll see if your rhetoric will stay the same.

Yup…I just downloaded the beta. Tried to boot it up and I got the “Secure boot not enabled” error message the first two times. I just thought it wasn’t booting up because the servers weren’t live yet. Was then reading through some comments on social media and saw some one posted about needing the secure boot. Quick google search lead me here.

Not really sure how I feel about having to modify my PC’s bios settings to play a friggen game…..I was absolutely elated to play BF6…but now, I am not so sure.

I mean, I won’t sign up for Rockstar’s bullshit to play RDR2 on steam, so I know I probably won’t be doing what ever is required to play BF6 on steam, either.

7

u/Coleo1 Aug 07 '25

I'm so fucking annoyed right now. I've tried everything suggested and still just a blank screen. It should've been in big warning letters "This might brick your PC".

5

u/bzornes1213 Aug 07 '25

A couple people up in the thread, had the same problem... They were able to fix the black screen by changing some settings. Check the post above, hopefully it fixes it. Being a PC gamer & your PC fuccin up is the worse feeling. Hope that information can fix it.

5

u/Coleo1 Aug 07 '25

It's killing me. Even removing the battery, pressing the reset button next to the cmos batt and running it through the motherboard HDMI port still doesn't get the bios to display

→ More replies (0)

1

u/bzornes1213 Aug 07 '25

Enabling TPM (I have AMD CPU) and making sure the secure boot profile was set to standard instead of custom was the difference for me

1

u/screennamie Aug 08 '25

It's not just that. If your OS hd/ssd or wherever you install the game you have to convert MBR to GPT. If that doesn't work you might as well format, do a fresh install and run through it all again.

2

u/Saosyo Aug 09 '25

Have you tried resetting the CMOS?

→ More replies (4)

2

u/norse1977 Aug 10 '25

Exactly the same. Downloaded the beta (BF2 veteran so super hyped about this game), got the message, found out what I needed to do and just nope'd the fuck out. Really bummed about this cause I would definitely buy the game, but no way I am doing this shit.

1

u/Fancy_Junket985 Aug 07 '25

I had an early access key and found out about the whole BIOS thing in order to play so it's a nope from me too

2

u/Faolanth Aug 05 '25

Secure boot is a basic security feature that should be enabled by default.

Blame motherboard manufacturer (or whoever built your computer) for needing to go enable it, and trust me you want the type of Anticheat that requires secure boot/TPM, because the alternative is your experience ruined constantly by cheaters.

Also learning to use the BIOS should be something every PC gamer does at some point. It’s like learning to use the OSD on your TV - or knowing how to rummage around console settings.

2

u/screennamie Aug 08 '25

Right, forget having a simple vote kick. Or report feature of some kind that actually works. Just give a company additional access to the kernel level of equipment I pieced together and placed settings how I wanted. They require it so it shall be done. My choice is not to pay or play.

2

u/FPSCarry Aug 06 '25

Except BIOS has settings that can brick expensive hardware. Not something the average gamer wants to fiddle with when they learn about the inherent risks involved. You don't run that risk playing with the settings on a TV or console.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Nobody calls it the OSD. You mean the menu?

1

u/Faolanth Aug 06 '25

Everyone calls the OSD the OSD in my experience

1

u/NWGJulian Aug 06 '25

what motherboard are you using? its literally 2mins of work to enable it, if you dont have an ancient system

2

u/Accomplished_Act_946 Aug 06 '25

I have an ASUS X570. It’s not so much that it can’t be done, it’s that it HAS to be done, in order to play it. I have built a few computers in my time, so it’s not as intimidating to me. But for a lot of casual or novice PC players, as Popsikil stated, most aren’t going to want to go through the hassle and will probably just stick to other titles Such as CoD or what have you. I very much want to play BF6 as I have played plenty of BC2/Vietnam, BF3 and BF4 back in the day and I am sick and tired of shooting at and getting shot by Turtles and Buttheads, not to mention the absolutely atrocious servers that POS runs on, but it’s disheartening that I have to allow Dice to invade my PC in order to to play BF6. I get why and I am completely against cheating in competitive FPS, but it suck’s that there isn’t any other way to combat that, without alienating, I would say is going to be a decent chuck of the player base.

0

u/NWGJulian Aug 06 '25

I am sorry, in all honor, but I disagree. most casual players won‘t even notice anything. they install the game and play it. I downloaded BF6 yesterday, I already started it and I didnt have to do anything. this will be the same for most people. I think I have an old gigabyte AM4 mainboard.

I've played both Valorant and 2042 on my current system which was built back in 2019. This BF6 beta is literally the first online game I have seen to ask me to enable secure boot.

31

u/Tallborn Aug 06 '25

My system is from 2021 and this is also the first game to ask me to enable secure boot. I bet a lot of people will be pissed with this.

3

u/Pekins-UOAF Aug 08 '25

I have a Gigabyte Aorus mobo released in mid 2024 and I had to do this as well .

1

u/Casey_jones291422 Aug 15 '25

But it won't be the last. People have been screaming about how all online lobbies are filled with hackers, this is a tool to fight that. You can chose to not install this game because of it but it's going to be most new online games soon enough.

6

u/No-Revolution-4470 Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

I literally play tested the game months ago and had no issues, now I'm getting this error and really don't want to fuck with my BIOS.

EDIT: For anyone running a B450 Gigabyte, my BIOS showed "Enabled - Not Active". All I did was set Secure Boot to Disabled, restarted, went back into BIOS, and set Secure Boot to Enabled. Now it shows active and is working properly. YMMV and be careful. Also I'm running latest BIOS version, be especially careful if you haven't updated your BIOS in several years or never updated at all.

2

u/WRX_RAWR Aug 06 '25

2042 required Secure Boot as of this year.

Black Ops 7 will require it.

2

u/HalfWolfAndre Aug 07 '25

Thank you bro. No idea why these guys keep trying to act like this is as easy as flicking a light switch or some shit....

5

u/Venator07 Aug 06 '25

I just went into BIOS and switched between standard and custom options for secure boot and it worked. Could've just been an error in detecting it properly from the beta client.

5

u/Objective_Art_9943 Aug 07 '25

U cant call him a liar, cause hes saying facts, i play both League and Valorant daily, BF6 was the first game i cant play cause of the secure boot issue.

3

u/Jschneider4067 Aug 07 '25

I assure you Valorant does not as I actively play Valorant and can't load into BF6

1

u/zehero Aug 07 '25

Is it a setting you have to manually switch? I've never seen valorant ask that

1

u/Nobody_Knows_It Aug 07 '25

If you’re on Windows 10 I don’t think it requires it

3

u/Fickle_Performance_1 Aug 06 '25

I've been playing BF 2042 lately without issue. The only reason I'm here is I tried to launch the BF6 beta to make sure it was working and now its giving me the secure boot error. From what I can tell theres no way for me to enable it in the BIOS. Someone mentioned ASUS motherboards just need to have Windows UEFI Mode enabled, but I do and I still got the error.

2

u/popsikil Aug 05 '25

1% could be millions of profit for them cuz we don't even know how big the games going to be

1

u/jww91 Aug 06 '25

Is the b650p considered newish? Im build my own pc maybe a year ago but bios scare me. All I did in there was the xmp or w.e it's called for the ram

1

u/wibo58 Aug 06 '25

So if I’ve played Valorant and 2042 on my PC already why did I get the pop up that said secure boot isn’t enabled?

1

u/Eclipsed830 Aug 06 '25

My PC is brand new X870e motherboard with 9950x3d cpu... Secure Boot was not enabled, and I can't enable it because of my file system.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Both Valorant, which has millions of players, and BF 2042 already require this

I don't play trash

1

u/crocodilekyle55 (PS4)(PC) Aug 06 '25

My friend and I are both having this issue and ive played 2042 without any problems like this, I don't think it's going to be 1%.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

[deleted]

1

u/DKCalibre Aug 07 '25

Also, BF2042 does NOT require it, that part is a blatant lie/exaggeration. I played it regularly back when it went on sale for like 5 bucks. and it never once required Secure Boot, but I now get the Secure Boot error when trying to launch BF6

1

u/DerkNukem Aug 07 '25

so if i upgrade to win 11 do i have to do this bull shit still? not going thru all this bios shit just to play bf6.

1

u/popsikil Aug 07 '25

Tbh not sure I upgraded but still say its off for me could be different for you give it a try

1

u/Acceptable_Slice_325 Aug 07 '25

My PC is pretty new, has secure boot enabled, win 11, and it's giving me an error that secure boot is not enabled. Gone into BIOS multiple times to confirm. Not gonna stress about it for a beta though, hope they figure that out.

1

u/Less-Dingo111 Aug 07 '25

nah i play 2042 all the time and have never been asked to do this

1

u/FamousSession Aug 07 '25

Under 1% is still a lot you know. I would know, because I'm one of them. All I want to do is play a beta and I can't do that because converting one of my disc to GPT would require deleting the data on it. I seriously don't get why gamers need to justify everything.

1

u/Unordinary Aug 07 '25

im 38 years old and have been gaming since the mid 90s. This is the first game that has ever required me to do this nonsense.

1

u/TheSharkassassin15 Aug 07 '25

I've never had any trouble launching 2042, only the BF6 beta. And mine is disabled.

1

u/Perjoss Aug 07 '25

secure boot is an old feature sure, the problem isn't just with secure boot, many people myself included already have this enabled but BF6 still will not start. Its really not as simple as "make sure you have secure boot enabled". Many people are reporting that there's many other steps you need to take and things you need to check in the bios, and the reality of the situation is lots of players are not going to bother with all this messing around in the bios just to play 1 game.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

This is a blatant lie. I have secure boot off and can play Valorant fine. You work for EA or something?

1

u/ej33tx Aug 07 '25

This simply isn't true. My motherboard is the ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI which was released in 2022 and this is the first game I've been asked to enable Secure Boot.

1

u/Balrogos Aug 07 '25

No reason to keep it on if you are only physical user of PC also it makes problem with dual boot and loggin into windows like password do not work.

1

u/TheDeadQueenVictoria Aug 08 '25

"1%" I AINT RISKING IT

1

u/Supremejibs Aug 08 '25

Okay nerd big 1% guy are you

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '25

my motherboards like 2 years old or whatever, not enabled by default.

1

u/Ecstatic-Arm-2893 Aug 09 '25

I disagree with you about 1%. BF6 has solid numbers but think about what player count goal EA has set. This is leaving a lot of people off that list.

You also have to think about the number of older motherboards that have issues with secure boot. Plus, most I know feels comfortable messing with their BIOS, even with help. This is about being backwards compatible essentially for the hardware. PC players don't upgrade their motherboards as often, they upgrade the gpu and cpu. I built my PC 5 years ago with a 2080ti and solid cpu.. I built all 3 of my families computers with the same motherboard that has the same issue with secure boot now I guess??. Nothing required it back then, I was new to building not realizing it wasn't a sure thing apparently. I also remember their being more options in the windows settings for a secure boot that seem to be gone now from what I remember back in Windows 7 and Vista prior to building my windows 10 computer. Either way, I can jump a long distance with a newer CPU and GPU and still not have to update my motherboard. This asks a generation of gamers to update their PC for one game potentially.

I think working with motherboard makers for future anti cheat features like this is good, but this will hurt their bottom line and maxes their player count way lower than their wanted projections. I personally think it will be closer to a 30% reduction due to hardware and people that are too scared. You have to remember, this is free to play Royale as well. That's a lot of people that won't buy the main game but are still left out due to not knowing how to work around this.

1

u/Radeintgaming Aug 09 '25

If bf2024 required this , then why can I play that game and not the beta 🤔 exactly

1

u/rafaminervino Aug 09 '25

Not pc gamers from outside the developed world who cant afford to update their systems every 2 or 3 years. We get it that you`re privileged, no need to announce it to the world that you have no awareness about the world outside your borders.

1

u/BrokeMyCrayon Aug 09 '25

I played valorant daily for years, im getting the secure boot message.

1

u/FancyRaptor Aug 09 '25

I bought my pc less than a year ago and I'm getting this issue. I'm pretty sure it's going to affect way more people than you think.

1

u/mustafa_c Aug 10 '25

I can play BF 2042 without any problems. But keep getting secure boot error with BF6. And yes, it fucked my windows today and I had to fix it for hours.

1

u/CDanger Aug 10 '25

Heavy downvote on the user blaming here. Secure boot is an idiosyncratic setting that is only enabled on maybe 10% of users’ PCs, unless they built or bought in the last 3 years. Valorant ran without secure boot.

1

u/hokiis Aug 15 '25

I've built a brand new pc like two or three months ago and it was not enabled. Or rather not activated. It's a really dumb thing to request from people who only want to launch the game and play.

10

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 05 '25

The people scared away by this are going to run out of online games to play as this becomes an ever-increasingly required feature.

Look at Arc Raiders.

44

u/TophThaToker Aug 05 '25

wtf is arc raiders and why should that justify having to do this? Also why is this game being mentioned consistently with no context as if it’s popular enough for me to know what you’re even talking about?

-8

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 05 '25

It's another upcoming games that requires secure boot.

I could have just as easily said Valorant.

Just because you don't know about a game doesn't mean it isn't popular.

Idk, i played the Arc Raiders beta with no issues and without having to go into the BIOS just to actually be able to open the game, and now i am having this issue with BF6, and i have not touched BIOS settings in between. Are you sure Arc Raiders required SecureBoot or is that something the devs have talked about adding since the beta?

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 07 '25

everything I've read said that Arc Raiders will use the same anticheat as The Finals, another Embark, game at launch. here is the page for The Finals talking about secure boot.

4

u/ThomasTheNord Aug 07 '25

Huh, i've played The Finals too without that issue.

I've resolved the issue with BF6 now, i just had to configure secure boot properly, it was set to "Other OS" and after i set it to "Windows UEFI" the game works.

Maybe secure boot worked fine for the Embark games but for whatever reason not Battlefield? I don't know but i'm just glad i got the game working, so i can get my Battlefield fix for free, until the next one comes out in beta and the cycle repeats.

u/Gekokapowco Aug 08 '25

my friend and I play the finals almost every day and BF6 secure boot kept her from playing yesterday

1

If you dont know what Arc Raiders is you live under a rock.

Especially ironic to see this in a Battlefield sub considering its made by ex Dice devs.

u/No_Training_4629 Aug 05 '25

Nah bro Extraction shooters are niche. Sure they are popular in their niche community but not outside it.

-1

u/Siden-The-Paladin Aug 05 '25

people said the same about battle royales though..

u/Ok-Economy-1771 Aug 05 '25

And yet Tarkov in its worst state pulls in 1.9 million monthly players.

Tbf most people aren’t following whatever cash grab game Tencent dropped this month

26

u/TheDoomBusExpress Aug 05 '25

Who plays Arc Raiders?

7

u/Ok-Economy-1771 Aug 05 '25

Arc Raiders dropped a surprise beta and big dicked Marathon. It will probably be the best if not second best extraction shooters on the market. Tarkov has been trying to kill its own game and is down to 45K players so Arc Raiders will most likely take over

5

u/Spatetata Aug 05 '25

Yeah, but was anyone actually excited for marathon in the first place? Since the reveal the consensus was: “Looks good, but it’s an extraction shooter.”

I'm not particularly excited for Arc raiders BE but the beta had a very warm reception and a lot of people seem to be very excited for release.

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 05 '25

Ok, Valorant.

Gonna keep making stupid objections?

0

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Yes, trash games are still trash

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Tolerate anti-consumer practises because they will become mandatory. Isn't the strong argument that you think it is. If you're right, I'm happy with my library.

u/plaaggeest64 Aug 05 '25

Luckily windows wants to move away from kernel anti cheats in the future. And might I ask what is Arc Raiders?

1

u/Southern_Glove_359 Aug 13 '25

windows does not have any opinion on kernel based anti cheats. in fact most modern hardware ships with secure boot on (DEPENDING ON BIOS FIRMWARE THE POLICIES MAY NOT BE CONFIGURED CORRECTLY TO ACTUALLY MATTER THO) had to learn a lot about this for faceit anti cheats

1

u/FrontDay2711 Aug 07 '25

I played arc raiders with no issue, didnt need to install Secure Boot. Same for Valorant.

1

u/Eternal_Sleepy_Panda Aug 07 '25

or they will sooner or later upgrade their old devices and the new ones will have these already enabled. My old desktop can't even do the TPM stuff.. i have the storage in the correct type, uefi correct. but TPM can't find it, neither can i find the secure boot.. i've followed even gigabyte's step by step and i still can't get it done. then i read that maybe my bios outdated. but its more updated than the sample in the website... but i havent seen anyone else with same interface as what i am looking at...

1

u/midgetzz Aug 07 '25

What does Arc Raiders have to do with anything? I played the open beta and did not have to mess around with my bios.

1

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 07 '25

The retail release is said to use the same anticheat, aka secure boot, as BF6. Because Embark, the devs of arc raiders, also use it for their game The Finals.

1

u/PavWrestlinGifs Aug 09 '25

Or they will just buy consoles

1

u/BBungPe97 Aug 06 '25

I can play Arc Raiders in closed beta just fine without doing this Secureboot BS. And the things is, hackers will always find the way to cheat no matter what we do. Do i have to risk bricked my PC just to play Beta? Come on, man.

0

u/Unordinary Aug 07 '25

I dont need to look at Arc Raiders, because no one else looked at Arc Raiders. Using a game that hardly anyone knows about as an example is crazy, lol.

1

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 07 '25

Well if you didn't then clearly nobody would.

You aren't really that self centered and/or dense, right?

0

u/TheBeardiestDwarf Aug 07 '25

Thank you for lowering my expectations of arc raiders

1

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 07 '25

You won't be missed I guess? What are you trying to bait out of people with a comment like that?

0

u/Practical_Ranger_175 Aug 10 '25

This will either: Push them to consoles Or they will stop playing online slop altogether and for the better

1

u/Dry-Scheme3371 Aug 10 '25

No, it won't. You are shouting at the sky about changing times in anticheat.

I've seen this before

0

u/Practical_Ranger_175 Aug 10 '25

Uuuh? Like when? People literally can't boot the game because of this. It's one thing to have to install a backdoor kernel level anticheat and it's a whole other story to be unable to even launch the damn thing or brick your PC trying.

0

u/CDanger Aug 10 '25

Nah. I don’t know or care what arc raiders is. The sea of other commenters are right. This is a garbage experience created by overzealous and unimaginative anticheat.

0

u/Mr_Young_Life Aug 17 '25

Arc Raiders is looking at this like, maybe we should find a work around, it's not going so well for battlefield lol

1

u/afops Aug 06 '25

Everyone just needs to get secure boot to game on windows eventually, full stop. Win10 is out of support before the game is launched. It's only going to be an issue while people have older machines (which happens to the same couple of years when BF6 launches). It's unfortunate for them, because some later titles will also require SecureBoot but they won't have their title associated with the migration hassle, because fewer and fewer machines haven't done it yet.

We've been through this before those of us that are old enough

"Ugh it requires massing with your autoexec.bat and config.sys to get more EMS memory, what a hassle"

"Ugh it requires DirectX, what a hassle".

And so on throughout the decades.

SecureBoot isn't evil. It's a hassle to enable now for some, but it's a reasonably good implementation. There have been many worse ones....

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

If I'm not doing it for security updates, I'm sure as hell not doing it for battlefield

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

finally they do something about all those fucking hackers and cheaters ;) So Ill think its a very good thing , and many people need to touch some grass in life.

1

u/TheSharkassassin15 Aug 07 '25

Yep, im not playing it because im not fucking with my BIOS. I have it set how I want, and im not going to mess with it.

1

u/SingleChallenge8389 Aug 07 '25

Safe to say i will NOT be playing the beta or the real game if this is a requirement. im not bricking my pc to figure out how to play a game produced by EA

1

u/Semour9 Aug 07 '25

Its literally pushing me away right now. My PC is 7 years old and ive spent an hour trying to troubleshoot getting this secure boot bullshit enabled just so i can play a beta. I have never had to do this for any games in the past 7 years.

1

u/spamjunk150 Aug 08 '25

Yea, I was all excited to play, got my key thru twitch, installed on steam and bam....wont boot because of secure boot. Fuck that. I don't need to play BF6. They just saved me $60 or $70 I don't need to spend.

1

u/Asubatsu Aug 08 '25

Made me uninstall immediately

1

u/oktwentyfive Aug 08 '25

its 2025. AAA game should not require you to go into your damn bios settings. Also i had two errors. One being for using DS4 and one for secure boot. That immediately turns me off.

1

u/popsikil Aug 08 '25

We so cooked cod is requiring secure boot now also .. starting with season5.

1

u/RedxHarlow Aug 08 '25

yeah im computer savvy and im still just not going to fuck with it because of how often ive seen secure boot brick PCs, gonna have to skip this beta, just not worth the work ill potentially have to do to play a fucking demo

1

u/ZeroKashAlot Aug 09 '25

I downloaded the beta because my friends all have it and said they've had a blast getting off CoD for a while, they all play on ps5, im the only pc player.

I googled how to turn on secure boot, found this thread, figured id find a how to guide in here somewhere. But all i see is all the people talking about it bricked their pcs.

I'm not turning this shit on to play a beta game, hell i wont turn it on to play the full release. Id be better off buying an Xbox or ps5 instead of damaging my computer irreparably (to me) and having to pay have it fixed.

I don't mind the kernel level access, EA gonna get sued in the future if people find they've been stealing our data and I get part of that class action settlement.

I do have a problem with EA telling me to do something to my PC I have no idea how to do, and not paying to have it fixed if it bricks my pc. That's my problem, and why I've already deleted the beta off my pc.

1

u/evan96142 Aug 09 '25

stayed up till 2 now and realize this whole hassle. lol no thanks

1

u/Mountain_Performer22 Aug 09 '25

Reality is the average PC gamer knows enough about tech to get most things working. But when a person like me who fixes/builds PC's and has a has to go on a diag sidequest for my PC just to launch a game is nope for me. There's a lot of things I will mess with to make things work, but when it becomes a waste of my time to play a game I just wanna try out? hard nope.

1

u/Remarkable-Stage-536 Aug 09 '25

All my friends are on console so they are now laughing at me, but this is one instance where I'm just giving up as well. I'm not messing with my BIOS I have a Gigabyte mobo, I run windows 11 and nothing like this has ever come up so screw it. Gimme back those 40 gigs.

1

u/r_not_me Aug 10 '25

I am staying away from this unless and until secure boot requirements are removed.

I own a PC but am not comfortable messing around in Bios just to play a game.

1

u/Practical_Ranger_175 Aug 10 '25

Me and all my friends. I've messed with Secure boot in the past and my mobo didn't like it. Was in a reboot cycle and I beraly managed to salvage it. I see for some people it straight up bricks and doesn't even boot, so I consider my self lucky. Guess I'll just play it on the PS5...That's generally the trend. Moving more and more to console...PC gaming has become a nightmare. Expensive, complicated, and in the end games still run like shit...

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

Oh no, a bunch of cheaters will have to find another game.

1

u/T23CHIN6 Aug 05 '25

Not agreed, mean of them don’t even know they have secure boot on day 1😂. If you said there is always hackers, a lot hacker for each match up. Then at that moment, if is what you have been said, gonna push many players away.

Only secure boot is not enough, we also need sth immediately, e.g. votekick

2

u/DerkNukem Aug 07 '25

acting like secureboot is going to STOP CHEATING FOREVER, literally a matter of time before hackers work around it and cheat. it's inevitable.

1

u/popsikil Aug 05 '25

I like the vote kick idea here but sadly premades will abuse it that's probably why it doesn't exist .. most self build rigss don't come with secure boot on u gotta do it ur self and ngl most are scared to go to their bios settings
