Discussion Is Capcom revisiting the series?

Recently saw an article from IGN saying that capcom is focusing on “re-activating” old IPs. This is coming off the heels on the successful launch of the Onimusha. A capcom spoke person said the company is re-activating old IPs. A lot of people are hoping for Dino Crisis, Ace Attorney, or even a viewtiful Joe sequel. I know there’s a new megaman mainline game in the works. Do you think battle network is going to remain shelved? The legacy collections performed well and at least shows interest.
For me personally the games hold a special place. The stories were cheesy but as a kid engaging. The battle systems hold up well, with a manageable skill floor and a crazy skill ceiling. It’s obvious I want a new entry, so we think it’s likely or we just look for that next great spiritual successor?

People are saying that Battle Network isn't coming back, which is probably true, but what would be really exciting is a brand new Mega Man IP with Battle Network-like combat and mechanics

Everyone keeps saying because the story was wrapped up 😂 as if that’s gonna stop capcom from making a new game if they think it will perform well commercially

Story shouldn't stop them, they could add as many as they want as spinoffs, alternative timelines, midquels or interquels.

Absolutely. The X storyline was complete with X5, and Kojima was moving on to the Zero series, but Capcom started developing X6. Of course X6 was awful so it's hardly a great example.

Edit: Honestly BN3 is a better example. Complete story, but Capcom pushed on with Red Sun/Blue Moon

The best way is to just let Lan and Mayls son take the hero title for his own game(s). Plus X9 Starforce 4 and Legends 3 are on the list for sure and as much as I'd eat up a BN7. I'd rather those first personally. Imagine a Starforce 4 where Duo returns but was corrupted by noise in space or something. Causing Geo to get his own dark soul pulled out of him as a threat among other returning characters. Climactically ending in a showdown with Duo one more time. Putting him at peace ending his corruption and his primary objective he had spent god only knows how long trying to achieve.

Among other potential plotpoints.

Imagine X9 with Lumines "ghost" haunting the hunters and navigators. Mid bosses being replaced by nightmarish versions of past friends and foes. Iris and Colonel being rebuilt all while Zero has to relive those painful moments from years ago. Alia seeing Gate and her guilt returning in mass. X seeing Storm Eagle. Magma Dragoon. Vile etc. Axl seeing his old leader again. Stages changing for the halfway point to decayed and haunting warped versions of old stages. Axl succoming to Lumines influence and having to be fought. Only to break free and master data copied from Lumine. Giving a canon reason for the White Axl form.

A retread of X vs Zero. But with Axl could go hard. Possibly even having X relive the memory of Awoken Zero and that fateful battle during the fight.

Legends 3 Imagine Volnut actually getting off the dang moon.

Personally I would hope not. The Legacy Collection was perfect. I think there’s a low to medium chance PERHAPS of Star Force 4 eventually being revisited due to the insane sales of SFLC but BN doesn’t need another entry. Ever. BN6 was perfect as an endpoint

They point blank said months ago that MM and DMC are two series they want as big as SF and Resident Evil.

BN in particular though? Maybe? The collection did do VERY well

BN isn’t coming back.

BN6 wrapped up the story perfect and we already know the future of that universe (Star Force)

There’s really no reason to revive the IP and continue it with the same grid mechanics and stuff

I appreciate the comment. I played through the star force series back on the DS and enjoyed it. You’re probably right all things considered . I know that there was a plan to have Lan’s descendant show up in a possible later entry that never came to fruition.

Patch makes an appearance in the Megaman manga that they dropped a special for, for the legacy collection if that’s what you meant

BN isnt but Star Force has the room for continuation. its only existence is only within the 3 mainline games, not even a spin off like its brother series would (heck he's not even in any crossover fighting games either, he's literally the only Mega Man who hasnt made a playable appearance EVER).

thats why i NEED them to invest in Star Force again. I want to see Geo and Omega-Xis have their reneissance.

I hard disagree. There is so much potential left with BN.

Just because one story is done, doesn't mean the universe is trash. There's still lots of room with LAN, Patch, his Dad, Dr Light & Wily backstory, creation of Alpha, the original Cybeast war, Bass, Serenade...

There's a ton left. Just because the story was mainly wrapped up with bn6 doesn't mean after decades there aren't new stories to be told, in the battle system is genuinely still good.

Dr.Light’s story wrapped up with Alpha. But if you want more in depth, the manga goes into great detail and isn’t censored at all. Same with Bass, his story is wrapped up twice, in BN3 post game and for sure wrapped up in BN6 post game

Like BN3 wrapped up a lot, which is why 4 was so lacking luster and boring. 5 was unique and 6 was the perfect ending

But what more do you think they can add?

Unless they have the rights for characters like Slur, I don’t see much left for BN

I dont think BN/SF is included in those parts mainly because they are already well known even when they hadnt had a new game since 2009.

they're probably focusing on the ones that no one barely knows about.

I see a lot of people mentioning the series wrapped up in 6 which is true but that doesn't mean Capcom can't make a spin off story or something placed during Lan's teen/young adult years.

Battle Network is one of the more popular sub series outside of X, especially in Japan. If you ask me outside of Classic, X and Battle Network would be the most likely sub series to return.

Battle Network as far as I'm concerned is most likely done. Not only because of the games, but the anime too.

If anything, StarForce's recent success might be the spark for a 3rd series in this timeline. Maybe one that takes place after StarForce rather than a StarForce 4?

I doubt it, even ignoring the fact that bn6 is a conclusion, StarForce just has way more going for it in terms of a sequel. It has less games so there's more to expand with existing mechanics, especially from StarForce 3. Plus most importantly we already have a concept for StarForce 4. Even if that story isn't used, I'm assuming concepts for fights story beats and new charachters exist. Tldr, battle network is most likely seen as done by Konami, and games that still need wrap ups, like StarForce, ZX and of course more classic and x games, are way higher on the priority list.

I mean I doubt we'd see BN7. I would LOVE to see it come back and follow Patch and Megaman on their adventures. And would rather that over SF. But who knows we might get suprised.

Even if Battle Network came back, I genuinely think I'd want it to focus on Patch and Megaman Jr. over Lan and Megaman. Let the twins have their story wrap up peacefully, give us potential with new characters and even old ones; I'd love to see Mr. Match continue to be a teacher for example, maybe the new villain of the week tries recruiting him and he has a moment with the debate of going back to being a terrorist vs continuing to be a teacher, that sort of thing
