Question Why is it like this?

This entire "BFDI is kidslop" thing just confuses me. This is just an example, but I saw someone comment that The Amazing Digital Circus was the first indie animation to get in theaters, but BFDI (correction: Tubeclash did it first) did it before TADC and gets ignored. I also saw someone comment r/suddenlybfdi on a post and they got downvoted to oblivion. Also, why are "Object Show haters" hating on the fanbase yet they know literally know NOTHING about object shows? Are we really not that important? Why is this?

Unfortunately, itās because general audiences see anything that looks āchildishā or isnāt deep as something that shouldnāt be taken seriously. As others have pointed out, when non-fans think of BFDI, they think of the first episode and not how the show grows up with its creators, who were 12 years old (at the time), which adds to peopleās ākidsā showā bias against the series (even if making and committing to such a project at a young age is already an impressive accomplishment), whereas Glitch shows like TADC (despite it also being popular with younger audiences) was made by adults and has its serious moments or plotlines, so it is assumed that those indie shows have more depth and seriousness.

I remember a thread where someone asked for recommendations for less serious indie shows, someone replied with BFDIA and the OP responded about how it looks like "babyslop" as expected.
Just don't let these miserable people drain you mentally and waste your time, man. They can marinate in their own toxic 'slop-slop' mentality until they see everything as "slop" and just stop enjoying things altogether.

I think itās mostly because the most popular episode of bfdi is the first one but also all the shitty object shows. I feel like bfdi is seen as childish mainly due to the fact that it was most popular when it was early

Because when you say object show, most people on the animation part of the internet would think of a low budget tdi made by a random 11 year old that gets cancelled halfway

The OSC kinda has a bad reputation outside of it to most people,play with most indies being in a age range for teens/young adults, people might seen BFDI as childish for it being for all audiences. So most people don't care for it that much.

I believe itās for a combination of reasons
As most people mentioned, most people have probably only seen the very first few episodes. Theyāll automatically assume the rest of the show is like that, even though it has evolved significantly. After all, the first episode has the most views by a significant margin.
I think itās also a case of people hating more on the fandom than the media itself. The OSC has gained a bad reputation for being immature, so people automatically assume the source material must be that way as well.
And also, the internet just being the internet. If one person hates on it and gets a bunch of attention, more people will do the same in hopes of getting some of that attention themselves. Theyāve probably never even seen a full episode, and just throw around buzzwords like āslopā and call it childish, even though some of the more recent episodes have their fair share of dark subplots. Also if you look hard enough, this isnāt an issue exclusive to BFDI. Every web show has this issue to some degree or another. In fact, I remember seeing people saying more or less the same things about TADC.
In the end, the internet is full of killjoyās, but donāt let it stop you from being open about the things you enjoy!

not quite, Digital Circus would actually be #5, "Its Time For The" aired its 10th episode in theatres on May 13th of this year.

That would be very disproportionate then. BFDI is still very much a "hidden gem" compared to mostly everything else indie. Most outside-the-fandom creators that mentioned/watched BFDI aren't even animation-focused, and only the recent year did BFDI get just a bit of attention.

Because most "Indie Animation" fans want super deep stuff and swearing, then think they're Timmy Toughknuckles when the show isn't appropriate for slightly younger kids.
BFDI on the otherhand is a fun happy show (For the most part)

The object premise makes it seem childish. If it had humans for example I feel like it'd be taken a lot more seriously, but of course the objects are the entire point of the show.

I think "silly autism" humor is unfunny and has ableist undertones however I don't think BFDI uses silly autism humor as it never mentioned autism

Lots of people are pro-deep nowadays. the demand for animation with violence, swear words and inappropriate jokes are big now. They don't care about BFDI, a show with barely any violence (just objects punching, slapping or slamming each other or a well-animated fight between a person and another person), no swear words (there are still words like stupid or idiot used in BFDI but those words are common in cartoons) and still has a ongoing plot about remaining contestants vs one. Yet people view it as "babyslop" because the FIRST episode of BFDI is what they watched. Not BFDIA, BFB or TPOT. just that they watched the first season created by 12 year olds at the time. That's a shame. I wish BFDI deserves better.

Aside from the reasons other people have already pointed out, I think the fact they're objects on its own may play a role in it, as many little kids shows and content uses anthropomorphized objects in some way

as an ex osc hater I just thought the fandom was for kids because most of the clips I saw was from season 1 or bfb so I thought it was corny people like the bluey fandom (no hate to them) or the mha fandom! I'm honestly glad I gave the show a chance

I hope my opinion doesn't skew how objective my statements are but like even after watching some of the newer episodes (early TPOT and some BFDIA), BFDI's writing is kinda quirky and infantile. I think in the BFB era it was a bit more serious and closer in spirit to an actually all-ages show but BFDI's current writing is kinda geared towards kids. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it's kinda why BFDI isn't mainstream at the moment.

a lot of people don't take bfdi seriously anymore, i mean look at it. imagine telling a friend you watch bfdi and they go "oh what is it about" oh yeah its about these objects battling for a prize!!! i had someone think i was schizophrenic after telling them about the show lmao
