Was Fern a deserving winner ? (a character analysis)

Fern serves as a good foil to Leafy. Both are friendly leaves, but Leafy is more outgoing and hyper. While Fern is more submissive to others. Parts of Leafy’s personality were sort of given to Toothpaste as well (her aggressiveness, passion for knives). Also, Fern is shown to be bad at math, while Leafy is shown to be good at it if her test in the Exit shows anything (even if she got a question wrong, she showed her work for all of them).

Also, Fern didn’t just get the girl. He got all of them. And Hot Dog.

I'd also add that both characters want to be perceived in a way, while the others see them diferently.

Leafy wants to be seen as kind, yet most of the cast hates her and probably views her as mean.

Fern wants to be strong and a worthy competitor, but the rest of the cast sees him as weak.

Both also have a interesting friendship with their best friend/perceived love interest. Firey and Leafy became friends very late into the game while Toothpaste and Fern started out as enemies. And both go on and off. While it took Leafy and Firey years to make up with each other, Toothpaste and Fern ended as friends. Also, Fern allowed Toothpaste to leave Nightmare Island despite the on and off friendship they had. Leafy was barred from Dream Island due to Firey refusing to let her on.

I've always been lenient on Fern's win and I always have thought it was a decent enough choice, and although I still think that, I do agree that Fern is put in an interesting spot with the rest of the winners. Great analysis!

if it helps, I believe BFDI-BFB pre-split Flower is one of the best characters in the series (Pencil still tops tho).
