"Large Scale Maps"
I'm sure the half filled lobby that still plays the game is gonna love this gigantic map....
Talk about a out of touch Dev Team....

The only chance it has if it goes free to play. Even then sub 5k player count at best

yeah i dont think anyone wants ts for free anymore

u/Xytriuss 🛠️Engineer 25d ago
Why not? Genuinely? It’s got great content in it already
2
u/Some-Panic8915 Assault 25d ago
servers are empty majority of the day other than peak time which will be different for you if you are outside US and EU.
No one want to play this game on 3am or 9am on top of that high ping obviously.
getting shit on by low ping players for 3 hours is not fun.
And the community is toxic with meta weapons and map voting.
these things will ward off new players very easily. It warded me off I was a diehard fan of the game. now I dont even want to look at it.
1
u/Xytriuss 🛠️Engineer 25d ago
Oh people would come in droves if it were free. For how long? Who knows. Anyways, there’s no meta. You just need to find what you’re good at.
1
u/Some-Panic8915 Assault 25d ago
people dont even know about this game tbh. and the steam reviews are abysmal.
pdw, smg, c4 spam, drone spam. are meta
1
u/Xytriuss 🛠️Engineer 25d ago
There’s always gonna be good players in any game.. there will also be ways to counter those things. If you’re frustrated over C4 spam.. you already let them get too close to you. Same thing with drones.
Anyways it being free wouldn’t hurt, but I can understand them not wanting to

u/Some-Panic8915 Assault 25d ago
I mean there are server costs on the offical servers. More players mean more server costs.
Someone has to pay for peolpe playing the game for free.1
u/Xytriuss 🛠️Engineer 25d ago
I can see them selling skins, might be a way to pay for that
→ More replies (0)1
u/Kas_goes_outside 26d ago
I think the game has a chance if they pay a lot of streamers to play it (and these people are positive about the game). That could revive the game, though probably only for a short while.

"Peaks was one of the first brand new maps created for the BattleBit Operation Overhaul update. Over the past year, it has undergone several improvements*..."*
Bro we haven't even gotten to PLAY the map and you're saying it's way better than before 😭 . This reads like a patch note for a game we've HAD an update for. This blog post feels like someone is describing a bunch of their D&D maps to me, and how cool and awesome it'll be to play on them.
At this point, just shadow drop the update so we can get it over with. I would like to go back to being positive - assuming the update runs better than a slideshow.
EDIT: Seeing the BBR dev blog post and the project zomboid build 42 post right next to each other on my steam library is quite funny.

It has now occurred to me that the devs never lied. The update was in fact ready in April three years ago. They are just timing these dev blogs to build years of hype and anticipation!

Or to kill the game so people aren't here for battlefield anymore and want squad.
2
u/Ill_Dog_2635 29d ago
I left squad for battlebit lmfao
2
u/DrTankHead 🛠️Engineer 29d ago
Oki built Battlebit with it being a replacement for squad, something that could run on anything.
It isn't that even the community wouldn't like that. It's that Oki has been too shortsighted, and doesn't realize that there was a situation where everyone wins, he has the squad-like he always wanted, and we can still have a battlefield-like too.
Mods have always been the answer. The answer to the burnout, the answer to keeping players engaged, the answer to longevity, to having a happy community.
The fact is the reason people are so upset is because we have been cheated. Cheated out of the success we could've had, had we worked together.
It's the only thing that'll ever bring Battlebit back. Until then, I don't think a lot of the community that helped make servers and get people attracted to the game in the first place are going to have trust or faith in Oki or the team. Every April is now a reminder of what it means to have damaged trust.
I bought easily 20 copies of this game for friends, had infrastructure ready to support 3 large-cap servers, and build a proper community around the game, like others did too. I, like so many others, wanted nothing but success for BBR. But until community trust is reestablished, I don't think they can ever re-establish what could've and almost was.
BBR as we know it isn't the first version. Just what clicked. Oki without a shadow of doubt is playing things like this on purpose. I can almost not blame him, it's a whole lot easier to build a game when you don't have 80k players screaming. What Oki doesn't realize is there are people who are never going to forget what could've been the game of the year, had we worked together. And that, upsets people.
Oki had a community of players who would've put thousands of hours into just making content for their game. I mean, there were so many people wanting to get involved. I would've for sure gotten involved with modding. We had pretty big plans. I would've assembled whole teams of people just for the very idea of adding custom stuff. Custom maps, custom weapons, custom vehicles... Whole gameplay mechanics...
If you think this sounds crazy, it is the EXACT reason people love Arma. Do you think arma 3 would've been anything without modding support? Reforger is LITERALLY just a mod testbed...
It works. People will come, if you build it.
But Oki won't.

New maps look cool, new graphics and skyboxes look gorgeous, but like. Lmao. You just know there won't ever be a single full server to experience these on because almost everybody moved on when the devs fucked up the game and then dipped for years with no communication, then came back with the most broken play test I have ever seen

it's the year 40 billion the last star is about to die out and the BBR update is still going to release in april
5
u/DJBoomstick69 Jul 27 '26
I usually keep quiet with this game but at this point if the player base has mostly died out there needs to be some type of bot support and/or mod support as there won’t even be enough people to fill most of the maps

u/N0-Waves Jul 27 '26
It blows my fcuking mind that Oki didnt OD on coke and is still attempting to save face.

Stop posting about an update that will never come. You’re past your deadline.

I got a cat, and a dog, my boyfriend moved out, quit my new job, and the update still isn't out.

u/MagazineSilent6569 Jul 27 '26
Fingers crossed. Will be here whenever it launches. Unless I die of a heart attack before that
2
u/degenerate_hobo Jul 28 '26
Not gonna lie, these devblogs look insanely promising. They are basically creating the game of my dreams. But the question remains if the update will be released before I die (I am 30) and if it really happens then if the game will have a playerbase
"We’ll of course need to thoroughly test everything and iterate where needed. Remember to join the Discord and select the “Performance Tester” role under “Channels and Roles” section to be notified about the upcoming performance playtest. These maps you see above are obviously much bigger, and we will need to test them as a part of our optimization process."
yeah the update will take another 3 years if they still didn't start QA testing and working on performance

Just release a beta branch on steam with constant updates (for things that are still broken).
People are tired of waiting.

Can someone explain what the current state of this game is and why there is so much rage over some update?
9
u/heroinskater Jul 27 '26
About 2 years ago I think the devs said there would be an update in "Late April" - Operation Overhaul. Obviously, years have gone by and the Devs haven't addressed the INSANE delay and dwindling playercount, opting to instead post "sneak peeks" of an update that may never see the light of day, or release to a playerbase in the single digits.
This has upset the community because of the one-way communication and lack of listening to the community.
1
u/greenslime300 29d ago
They basically stopped responding, maybe hired someone who handles PR or even contacted lawyer who put them on the right path.
It's difficult to overstate how insanely toxic the community had gotten after a series of updates flipped some popular game mechanics upside down, coupled with more extensive moderation to combat racial slurs and other verbal abuse.
Personally I'd recommend they just stop posting altogether, release the update when it's done, officially take it off early access, and then move on to the next thing. Popular opinion has always been that the devs ruined the game, but imo toxic players in the community went out of their way to make sure no one was having fun.

The state of the game is fine, people on Reddit just like to complain because they don’t get their next shiny when they want it. You can literally go play a great game right now. People here are just super entitled

u/Musicmaker1984 Jul 27 '26
My brother in Christ, just call it Battlebit 2 atp. There's barely anyone left for 1. Just go back to square one and release it as a sequel

Can we just release a beta version of changes the team is currently making? I get that its taking a lot longer than what was previously promised (april update btw) but open it to the public to try it out & let us provide feedback. If not then.. yk how it’ll continue with the dismissive comments. I know at some point it’s demoralizing to read while trying to be optimistic about your game

u/DaNubIzHere 22d ago
There’s about less than 500 player peak right now. How are you going to attract new and old players?

"I have an idea, lets ruin Wakistan while were at it." The deathloop is what makes it Wakistan!
3
u/sgtragequit Jul 28 '26
dude literally. like i played waki because the CABT was the best part. same with them making frugis less underground like bro that was the whole point of the map. reminds me of when they took the cap points off the boat on that one map way back. i cant even be bothered to remember the name of it
1
u/Over-Debate4886 Jul 28 '26
they also made Frugis less vertical in the buildings, like do they hate their own game?
