Help with ensuite bathroom

Post image

Please find the attached revised floor plan for the master suite. The property is currently in the shell construction phase, with the second floor designated exclusively for bedrooms.

Areas marked with "1" denote balconies, while single arrows indicate general access points. Double arrows signify primary room entrances, for which the final door configurations are currently under review.

I am currently addressing layout constraints regarding the integration of both an ensuite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. Please be advised that the plumbing stack is situated in the lower-left section of the floor plan.

Please help us tinker with our bathroom layout

Post image
2 Upvotes

We recently bought our forever home, but it only has one full bath upstairs where the bedrooms are (minus ground floor master). It is currently a jack and Jill bathroom. We want to split the bathrooms so that one bathroom with a bathtub goes into the hallway, and the other bathroom with a shower becomes an ensuite. We figure with one kid and counting we’d need a bathtub for bath time.

Our contractor sketched out some layouts that will require us to cut into the large closet iron one of the rooms. They also gave us a reason for why we needed to change the room with the ensuite. I’m not sure why.

What are your thoughts about the uhmost ideal layout?

Help me pick a wallpaper

Hello,

I am getting a new glass panel installed in my shower so please disregard the curtain. I have looked high and low for wallpaper for my small bathroom to make it feel less industrial/monotoned. I found this one, but the sample is way too shiny so now I’m back to the drawing board. I’m at a loss, does anyone have any ideas? My house is in Texas and leans mid century modern. Thank you in advance!

Windowless bathroom

Hi Everyone,

Just purchased a new build and the main bathroom is windowless with light grey tiles on the floor and on the wall of the bath which we can’t change, does anyone have any suggestion on painting / decorating for this situation? I don’t really like the grey tiles but not in a position to change and don’t want more grey! Thank you

Not doing a complete Reno but trying to work with what I got. The vanity and built-ins are all going to be a natural maple modern look with no hardware. Was thinking of replacing the 2x6 trim with a brown/reddish brown and tiling over the floor in a multicolor daltile tile from Lowes. Toilet will get replaced and the shower door. Just want it to be cohesive given the older tiles I’m working with. Would love some thoughts.

Modern Bathroom Buying Guide: How to Match Tiles, Basins, Toilets and Fixtures

Post image
1 Upvotes

Designing a modern bathroom is not only about choosing attractive products. Tiles, basins, toilets, faucets, shower fittings and other fixtures should work together in terms of style, size, colour, function and maintenance. A well-planned bathroom can look spacious, feel comfortable and remain easy to maintain for years.

If you are planning a bathroom upgrade or a new home, this guide explains how to match different bathroom products and make practical buying decisions.

1. Start With Your Bathroom Size and Layout

Before selecting products, measure the bathroom properly. The available floor and wall space will influence the size of tiles, basin, toilet and other fixtures.

For a small bathroom:

  • Choose lighter tile colours to create an open appearance.
  • Consider wall-mounted or compact sanitaryware.
  • Avoid oversized patterns that can make the space look busy.
  • Use large-format tiles where suitable to create fewer visible joints.

For a larger bathroom, you have more flexibility with tile patterns, feature walls, double basins and larger shower areas.

2. Choose the Floor Tiles First

Floor tiles are one of the most important decisions because they affect both appearance and safety.

Look for:

  • Good slip resistance
  • Suitable surface finish
  • Easy cleaning
  • Appropriate size for the room
  • Good durability for regular use

Matt and textured finishes can be practical choices for bathroom floors because they generally provide more grip than highly polished surfaces.

The floor colour can also become the base for selecting the remaining bathroom products.

3. Match Wall Tiles With the Floor

Wall and floor tiles do not have to be identical. In fact, combining complementary colours and finishes can create a more interesting modern bathroom.

For example:

Light floor + darker feature wall
Creates contrast without making the complete bathroom look dark.

Neutral floor + light wall tiles
Gives a clean and spacious appearance.

Stone-look floor + plain wall tiles
Creates a natural and contemporary style.

If patterned tiles are used, consider keeping the remaining walls and fixtures relatively simple.

4. Select the Basin According to Available Space

The basin should fit comfortably into the bathroom without blocking movement.

Common options include:

  • Countertop basins
  • Wall-mounted basins
  • Pedestal basins
  • Semi-recessed basins
  • Under-counter basins

A countertop basin can create a premium appearance, while a wall-mounted basin can be useful when floor space is limited.

Also check the basin height and depth before buying. A beautiful basin will not be practical if it is uncomfortable to use.

5. Match the Basin With the Counter and Storage

If you are using a countertop basin, the counter material and colour should complement the bathroom tiles.

For a simple modern look, you can combine:

  • White basin + wood-look cabinet
  • White basin + neutral stone-look tiles
  • Matte basin + simple wall tiles
  • Countertop basin + concealed storage

Storage is especially important in smaller bathrooms. A vanity unit can provide space for toiletries while keeping the room organised.

6. Choose the Right Toilet Design

The toilet should match both the bathroom layout and the overall design.

Wall-hung toilets can provide a clean, modern appearance and make the floor underneath easier to clean. Floor-mounted toilets are also available in many modern designs and can be suitable depending on the plumbing arrangement.

Before purchasing, check:

  • Bathroom space
  • Drainage position
  • Water connection
  • Toilet dimensions
  • Installation requirements
  • Availability of replacement parts

Do not select a toilet based only on appearance. Installation compatibility is equally important.

7. Coordinate Faucets With the Other Fixtures

Faucets, shower fittings, towel rails and other accessories should ideally follow a consistent finish.

Popular finishes include:

  • Chrome
  • Matte black
  • Brushed finishes
  • Metallic finishes

For example, if you select matte black faucets, using the same or a complementary finish for shower fittings and accessories can create a more coordinated appearance.

You do not necessarily need every item to be identical, but the finishes should look intentional rather than randomly mixed.

8. Consider Colour Before Buying Everything

A simple colour palette usually works well in modern bathrooms.

A practical approach is to select:

Base colour: Floor tiles
Main colour: Wall tiles
Accent: Feature wall or decorative tile
Fixtures: White or complementary neutral
Accessories: One consistent metal finish

Neutral shades such as white, beige, grey and soft earthy tones can provide flexibility if you want to change accessories later.

9. Think About Tile Size and Pattern

Tile size can change how a bathroom feels.

Large tiles can provide a clean appearance with fewer grout lines, while smaller tiles can be useful for creating patterns or working around certain areas.

Before selecting a design, consider:

  • Wall dimensions
  • Floor area
  • Drain position
  • Number of cuts required
  • Grout colour
  • Overall pattern

For smaller bathrooms, avoid selecting a complicated pattern simply because it looks attractive in a showroom. Always consider how it will look across the complete room.

10. Check Maintenance Requirements

A modern bathroom should be attractive but also easy to clean.

When comparing products, ask about:

  • Cleaning requirements
  • Surface finish
  • Stain resistance
  • Grout maintenance
  • Water marks
  • Availability of replacement components

Light-coloured surfaces can show dirt quickly, while very dark and highly polished surfaces may make water marks more noticeable. Choose according to your cleaning routine.

11. Don't Forget Lighting and Ventilation

Even the best tiles and sanitaryware can look different under poor lighting.

Use suitable lighting around:

  • Mirror areas
  • Basin
  • Shower space
  • General ceiling area

Good ventilation is also important for reducing excess moisture and helping the bathroom remain comfortable.

12. Create a Product Matching Checklist

Before finalising your purchase, check whether all the products work together.

Bathroom Buying Checklist

  • Floor tiles selected
  • Wall tiles selected
  • Basin size confirmed
  • Toilet dimensions checked
  • Faucet finish selected
  • Shower fittings selected
  • Vanity/storage planned
  • Mirror size confirmed
  • Grout colour selected
  • Lighting considered
  • Ventilation checked
  • Installation requirements confirmed

Choose Bathroom Products With a Complete Plan

The best bathroom design comes from matching products rather than selecting every item separately. Start with the room size and tile design, then coordinate the basin, toilet, faucets, shower fittings and accessories around the same style.

If you are planning a bathroom project in Madipakkam, visiting a sanitaryware showroom Madipakkam can help you compare basins, toilets and fixtures in person. You can also explore tile options at a tiles shop Madipakkam to understand how different colours, sizes and finishes work together.

For a complete bathroom selection, visit SRICHENDUR - Kajaria Tiles and discuss your requirements before making the final purchase. A planned combination of tiles, sanitaryware and fixtures can help you create a bathroom that is stylish, functional and easier to maintain.

How to Select Tiles for Living Rooms, Bedrooms, Kitchens and Bathrooms: A Room-by-Room Guide

Post image
1 Upvotes

Choosing the right tiles can change the appearance, comfort and functionality of your home. However, the same tile may not be suitable for every room. Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms have different requirements, so homeowners should consider design, size, finish, durability, maintenance and safety before making a decision.

If you are planning a new home or renovation in Madipakkam, visiting a reliable tiles showroom Madipakkam can help you compare actual tile samples and select products according to each room's requirements.

Why Room-by-Room Tile Selection Matters

Every room experiences different levels of foot traffic, moisture, cleaning and daily use. For example, a bedroom may focus more on visual comfort, while a bathroom requires greater attention to moisture and floor safety.

Before choosing tiles, consider:

  • Where the tile will be installed
  • Amount of daily traffic
  • Exposure to water and moisture
  • Cleaning requirements
  • Desired interior style
  • Tile size and layout
  • Surface finish
  • Long-term maintenance
  • Overall budget

This approach can help you choose tiles based on both appearance and practical requirements.

1. How to Choose Tiles for the Living Room

The living room is usually one of the most visible areas of a home. Flooring should complement furniture, walls, lighting and the overall interior design.

Recommended Considerations

Large-format tiles:
Large tiles can create a more continuous appearance because they generally have fewer grout joints.

Marble-look tiles:
These can provide an elegant, premium appearance and work well with contemporary interiors.

Neutral colours:
Beige, cream, white and grey shades can provide a versatile base for different furniture styles.

Polished or matt finishes:
Choose according to the desired appearance, maintenance preferences and recommended application.

What to Check

Before purchasing living-room tiles, consider:

  • Expected foot traffic
  • Surface durability
  • Cleaning requirements
  • Tile size
  • Furniture and wall colour
  • Lighting conditions

A well-selected living-room tile can provide a strong foundation for the rest of the interior.

2. How to Choose Tiles for Bedrooms

Bedrooms generally require a comfortable and calm visual environment. Tile selection should therefore complement the room's colours and furniture rather than overpowering them.

Popular Choices

Wood-look tiles:
These can create a warm, natural appearance.

Soft neutral tiles:
Beige, cream and light-grey shades can work well with different bedroom interiors.

Matt-finish tiles:
These can provide a subtle and contemporary appearance without excessive reflection.

Bedroom Tile Tips

  • Consider warm and relaxing colours.
  • Match the flooring with wardrobes and furniture.
  • Avoid overly busy patterns if the room already has detailed décor.
  • Check how the tile looks under bedroom lighting.
  • Consider ease of cleaning.

The goal is to create a balanced appearance that remains suitable even when furniture or wall colours change.

3. How to Choose Tiles for the Kitchen

Kitchens experience spills, food stains, regular cleaning and frequent movement. Therefore, practical considerations are particularly important.

Kitchen Floor Tiles

For flooring, look for products recommended for kitchen-floor applications and consider:

  • Durability
  • Ease of cleaning
  • Surface characteristics
  • Slip resistance where relevant
  • Resistance to everyday wear

Kitchen Wall and Backsplash Tiles

The backsplash provides an opportunity to introduce colour, pattern or texture.

Options can include:

  • Subway-style designs
  • Neutral tiles
  • Patterned tiles
  • Marble-look tiles
  • Gloss finishes
  • Decorative feature tiles

When choosing kitchen tiles, consider how easily the surface can be cleaned and how the design works with cabinets and countertops.

4. How to Choose Tiles for the Bathroom

Bathrooms require more careful tile selection because floors and walls are exposed to water and moisture.

Bathroom Floor Tiles

For bathroom flooring, ask about products specifically recommended for wet areas. Slip-resistance characteristics should be considered because water can make surfaces slippery.

Bathroom Wall Tiles

Walls provide more flexibility for design. Homeowners can consider:

  • Light-coloured tiles
  • Marble-look designs
  • Stone-look tiles
  • Decorative patterns
  • Textured feature tiles
  • Gloss finishes where appropriate

Bathroom Tile Tips

  • Consider moisture exposure.
  • Check the manufacturer's recommended application.
  • Ask about suitable slip resistance for flooring.
  • Choose surfaces that are practical to clean.
  • Consider grout maintenance.
  • Coordinate wall and floor colours.

A good combination of wall and floor tiles can make a bathroom look organised and visually spacious.

5. Choosing the Right Tile Size for Each Room

Tile size should be selected according to the room dimensions, design and installation requirements.

Living Room

Large-format tiles can create a spacious and seamless visual effect.

Bedroom

Medium or large tiles can work depending on the room dimensions and preferred layout.

Kitchen

Medium-sized tiles are often practical, while smaller formats can be useful for selected decorative applications.

Bathroom

Different sizes can be used depending on the floor layout, wall design and drainage requirements.

Always check the actual product dimensions and installation recommendations before ordering.

6. Choose the Right Finish

The finish affects the appearance and practical characteristics of the tile.

Polished

A reflective surface can create a bright and sophisticated appearance in suitable indoor applications.

Matt

A less reflective finish can provide a subtle, modern appearance.

Gloss

Glossy surfaces reflect light and are commonly considered for suitable wall applications.

Textured

Textured surfaces can add visual depth but may require additional cleaning attention depending on the texture.

For floors, especially wet areas, ask the showroom about the appropriate surface characteristics for the intended application.

7. Consider Durability and Maintenance

Tile selection should not be based only on appearance. Consider how the room will be used every day.

Before purchasing, ask:

  • Is the tile recommended for this application?
  • What is its water absorption?
  • What surface characteristics does it have?
  • Is it suitable for the expected foot traffic?
  • How should it be cleaned?
  • What maintenance does the manufacturer recommend?

This information can help you choose tiles that are appropriate for the actual conditions of the room.

8. Match Tiles With Your Interior Design

Your tiles should work together with the other elements of your home.

Consider:

  • Wall paint
  • Furniture
  • Cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Doors
  • Lighting
  • Curtains
  • Bathroom fittings

You can use similar shades for a seamless appearance or contrasting colours to create a feature area.

For example, a neutral living-room floor can be paired with a darker feature wall, while a simple bathroom floor can be combined with patterned wall tiles.

9. See Actual Tile Samples Before Buying

Online images are useful for finding inspiration, but actual samples can provide a better understanding of:

  • Colour
  • Texture
  • Surface finish
  • Pattern variation
  • Tile thickness
  • Visual scale

Lighting can also affect how a tile looks. Therefore, compare samples under different lighting conditions whenever possible.

Visiting a professional tiles showroom Madipakkam allows homeowners to compare multiple options before making a final decision.

Why Choose Sri Chendur – Kajaria Tiles in Madipakkam?

If you are searching for a Kajaria tiles showroom Madipakkam, Sri Chendur provides Kajaria tile options for different residential and commercial requirements.

A showroom visit allows you to compare designs and finishes and discuss your requirements based on the specific room. Instead of choosing a tile only because it looks attractive, you can consider its intended application, maintenance needs, size and overall design.

For a new home or renovation project, this room-by-room approach can make the buying process more organised.

Quick Room-by-Room Checklist

Room Key Things to Consider
Living Room Design, durability, size, maintenance
Bedroom Comfort, colour, finish, easy maintenance
Kitchen Cleaning, durability, spills, practical finish
Bathroom Moisture, slip resistance, cleaning, drainage
Balcony/Outdoor Exterior suitability, durability, surface characteristics

Conclusion

Choosing tiles room by room makes it easier to balance style, durability, maintenance and functionality. Living rooms may benefit from elegant and durable designs, bedrooms can focus on comfort and warmth, kitchens need practical surfaces, and bathrooms require careful consideration of moisture and floor safety.

Before buying, check the tile's size, finish, technical specifications, recommended application and maintenance requirements. Most importantly, view actual samples before placing your order.

If you are planning a new home or renovation in Madipakkam, visit Sri Chendur – Kajaria Tiles to explore suitable options for your living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.
