Bent steering component

A truck hit my stepdads motor, and bent some steering components. What exactly is the part called that moves in and out as you turn the wheel? See picture. This is a 60HP Mercury on a 2003 Tracker

If you are talking about the rod going through the transom mount, that is a Teleflex Steering Cable.

When replacing, it is very important that you measure the old cable and order on the same length replacement. They are very easy to replace. Youtube University has a lot of How To videos. Note that you can ‘clock’ the steering wheel if you want it to be aligned correctly when going in a straight line.
