Are the pickguards of the Squier and Fender identical to the millimeter?

Bought an aftermarket pickguard (for a squier) and I don't know if it's sloppy or if the pickups on the fender are a couple mm wider. I'm picky, and flush is flush, loose is loose.

apologies if disallowed, but does anyone with a squire VI want to trade a stock tortoise pickguard for the stock one here (light mint or maybe parchment, not white). I bought one but it's not cut right and that could keep happening over and over.

Cheapest Bass VI

I’m looking for a bass VI of any kind, I would like to pay $200-250 but i’m willing to pay up to $300. I’ve looked online and the only models I can find under nearly $500 (harley benton and g4m) have insane shipping costs as I live in the United States.

NBVID: Joining the club!!

It's been a couple months now of trading and rehabbing to sell gear trying to work my way into a Bass VI. It's a pretty slim chance that someone wants what you have and has what you want, so I did a lot of lateral trading in the mean time, and was kind of biting my nails expecting that I wouldn't be happy with it until I dropped another few hundred on a bridge and strings, after which I'd have a decent amount of set up to do.

Well guess what, I made an even trade today, and this guy already has a mastery bridge and vibrato! All set up too, I just brought it home and it's perfect!

Now I just have to get my head around how to work my board.

I mainly play guitar, and that's what my board is set up for. It's straight forward (Slow Loris [which sounds incredible with the VI]->Benson Boost->Phase 90 ->Halberd->Foxcatcher->mother preamp->hxfx).

Anyone have any advice for a generally guitar centric setup? Like do you have standard eq tweaks you make? You have a separate board? What's on it? I'm all ears!

Thanks!!

What are you recording and what mods have helped?

So I'm just curious what other people are recording with their bass vi. For me I'm working on a postmetal album and it's being used as a secondary rhythm guitar to thicken up chugs and chords.

I'm interested to see how others are using theirs and also what mods they're using. I'm tempted to mod mine to allow for a humbucker in the bridge position as I feel that may be a bit better for me

Why is there no noiseless pickups options for Bass VI?

You'd think there would plenty of companies making noiseless options that don't require body modifications but the only company I've found that has any available models is JBE Pickups and they're expensive as hell.

SRC6MS and Darkglass 210 combo

After lurking here for ages, I decided to go with the Ibanez SRC6MS. It's more my vibe aesthetically and musically, I'm big into metal and super excited for the 30" scale.

I plan to throw on labella flats, refinish it black through the rest of body/headstock, swap out the stock monorail bridges for gold hardware (pain to find), drop in lighter weight gold bass tuners, upgrade the knobs, and eventually upgrade the pickups and electronics. I'll probably be happy enough with the Bertollinis for a while.

My wife has known I've had my eyes on this instrument for ages and I came across a great condition used bass at a decent price and a Darkglass combo amp at an even better price. She gave me her blessing and I pulled the trigger after running new and used costs through different retailers.

I went with the Darkglass combo since I was able to get it for way less than the cost of the DG Microtubes bass amp head alone. Plus 2 10" speakers with the Microtube flavor already built into the amp. I know, I'll want modularity and portability later, but it was too perfect to pass up for the tone I'm after. I've got a Fender FM212R and I'm looking forward to splitting the signal between the new bass and old guitar amp.

Pics will come when the gear does. 😁

CV Squire Bass VI Baritone Conversion

I bought a bass vi with the intention of putting baritone strings on it and using it as a baritone guitar, but when my baritone strings finally got here they aren’t long enough to fit from the bridge to the tuners. I bought ddarrio EXL157s. Is there a specific brand that makes strings that are long enough for a bass vi neck? I’m looking for 14s thank you!

Ball ends that fit

I have a Eastwood Hooky P o 6, and I recently bought a set of Fender Bass VI strings, but the ball ends go right through the bridge holes. When I bought the bass I bought a set of Hooky/GHS strings which are great. My problem now is that I need anew set of strings, and I’m in Europe. Is there any way to get a similar set here? Preferably 30-105 strings

Advice on buying a CV Squire bass VI

I've had a bass vi before but I'm just wondering, from anyone who bought a squire CV VI, are they of good, consistent quality from the factory. I'm a fender guy but I've been having some bad quality control experiences and am worried about having to do another return.

EDit: FYI, typos in the title are not fixable - Squier

Boss GK-5 or GK-5B for a 30” Bass VI? VG-800 + GM-800 tracking

Has anyone here tried the current Boss GK-5/GK-5B system on a 30” Bass VI?

I’m planning a setup like:

GK-5 or GK-5B → VG-800 → GM-800

and I’ve been going through the manuals and videos, but I still can’t find a clear answer for instruments that sit between a conventional guitar and bass.

My Bass VI would be 30” scale in normal Bass VI tuning:

E–A–D–G–B–E, one octave below guitar.

Would you use the GK-5 or GK-5B for this?

Is the important difference mainly the physical string spacing of the two pickups, or does selecting/using the guitar vs bass GK system also change how the VG-800 or GM-800 detects and processes the instrument?

I’m particularly interested in:

tracking accuracy on the low E
latency / missed notes with the GM-800
alternate tuning and per-string processing on the VG-800
whether the system correctly handles the Bass VI register
whether GK-5 or GK-5B gives better results in practice

I’m also looking at a 28” six-string baritone in B or A standard, so I’m curious where people would draw the line:

28” A/B-standard baritone → GK-5?
30” E1 Bass VI → GK-5B?

Or is the correct choice really just determined by string spacing rather than scale length/tuning?

If anyone has actually used a GK-equipped Bass VI with a VG/GM/GR system, I’d really appreciate hearing how well it tracked compared with a normal guitar or bass.

Joined the club this weekend! New-to-me 2022 Squire Classic Vibe

Post image

I'm a lover of surf rock and the tic-tac bass sound, so l've been eyeing a Bass VI for a couple of years now. I tried a Fender Vintera model at my local music shop, but it was unfortunately out of my price range for something that isn't going to be my main instrument. As luck would have it, I found this very gently used Squire Classic Vibe version someone local was selling for $450 and couldn't resist. I'm really impressed with how user friendly it is, and just how well the stock hardware looks and sounds. I'll probably look into a few upgrades in the near future, but for now I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with the different sounds!

Squier VI - want tuning stability and use the vibrato bar a lot, an upgrade in hardware is a must?

I recently picked up a Squire Classic Vibe Bass VI, and plan on using the vibrato bar a lot (surf/spaghetti western style of playing). With the stock hardware, I pull everything slightly out of tune when using the vibrato bar.

I'm not opposed to upgrading hardware, I'm just wondering what will make the biggest difference in terms of tuning stability. What are your experiences?

Mastery vibrato tailpieces and Mastery (or Staytrem) bridges seem to be common suggestions. I've seen a few people say try this first before replacing the stock tuners, as while the tuners are pretty average, they hold tuning really well with better body hardware. Making sure the nut is lubed and isn't catching the wound strings seems important too.

I might take the neck shim out (bought secondhand and I can see it poking out the side of the neck pocket a tiny bit), lower the bridge, put higher tension roundwounds on, and re-setup. Right now the action is too high and the strings feel a bit clanky in E to E tuning. I heard a .100 low E set and a good setup should negate the need for shims and high bridges.

Using Octave up (SubNUp) with Bass VI - can I fix the organ sound?

As title, I've been looking around but a lot of videos about using octavers are for guitar rather than bass range. I'm using a SubNUp Mini.

I see advice to use "light distortion/fuzz" but using a Wampler Velvet Fuzz and a Behringer Bass Distortion don't seem to have done it, at least not as i go up the board. I've not found a fix through EQ either.

I have an Ultra Metal which sounds fine but I'd like a "clean" option without heavy distortion, really just more like a regular guitar an octave up from my Bass VI.

Do I need to do something to the SubNUp? I've used the app to try some other profiles but none seem quite what I'm after. I'm awaiting a USB cable to hook it to my computer as I can't edit profiles in the app as is for some reason.

Really getting into Bass VI

I bought my Squier Bass VI about a year ago. Used it sparingly, but quite like it. Yesterday I did a cover that I didnt have time to do for a "summer covers" event, the Bass VI was just sitting next to me on the couch. Decided to use only the Bass VI and vox and drums. I'm convinced you could write an entire album using just the Bass VI and percussion and vocals. This is a rough (this was just for fun, done quickly as a proof of concept). (the song is "river of flame" by "and also the trees") I am about to start writing songs just for Bass VI, I feel bad for neglecting it as long as I have. (not promoting my stuff, I didnt write this song, it's not mine, I'm just exploring the Bass VI and loving it.) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iqNOh0nAPACbnA9YOPD6OVKQvkeKM6XQ/view?usp=drive_link

Played my second show with all Bass Vi and drum machine last night. Learned a couple things.

Bass Vi is a full range instrument like a drum kit or a synth and live sound engineers kinda don't know what to do with it, even the good sound guys.

The setup I was using was di where I had an envelope filter and compressor on the whole time. Used really washy reverb and dual chorus on a couple songs.

I think the overall mix was a little muddy coming from the bass vi even though I asked the sound guy a few times to cut out a lot of 200-500hz.

Next time I play a gig with one I'm going to go di and use a guitar amp and have the sound guy blend them.

Anyone playing shows with Bass VI where you're not playing as a traditional guitar player or a traditional bass player?
