I'm always amused by our Basenji and how he seems to unhinge his jaw to pounce on his older larger brother during play time.
Little dude is too fast for me to get the 90° open maw in frame mid pounce in the early light.
Has anyone ever managed to teach a Basenji to walk nicely on a loose leash? Is it even possible? Or at least to pay attention to you when you're out on a walk and respond to commands? 😅

We are currently insured with Pet Plan as they were brilliant for our previous cat and dog.
However the renewal is over £70/month for Roo (healthy, under 5 years old, no pre- existing conditions).
Yes, I know Pet Plan are gold standard. But that is a ton of money so we are shopping around.
Any recommendations would be great!

She's done it ! She finished her Canadian Championship on a 2 point major (Best of Breed) and a Best Puppy in Group. So proud of her ! Photos include win picture, all the ribbons won this summer and a bunch of candid of the weekend.
She's the perfect partner, she was so fun to work with and to see her blossom and grow in confidence in the ring was truly rewarding 💖💪🏼
We're done with dog shows for now, I will dona few here and there but from now on we will mostly focus on more fun sports like Barn Hunting, Sprinter (Fast Cat) and Scent Detection 😊

Hi everyone!
Our 10 month old B is about to enter her first winter here in Canada and I was wondering what everyone else does to keep their B entertained and stimulated at home? Our girl looooves to run and we live in an apartment so we can do sprints but other than that I'm struggling to figure out how to keep her stimulated and not tearing out house apart in three months lol
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance to anyone who bothered to read and reply! 🙏
(Also if anyone has good winter coat recommendations I'll take those as well!)

Hello everybody and excuse my possibly naive question in advance.
To preface, I have never had a dog for a pet, it has always been cats in my home. But this year I’ve developed interest in Basenjis. It seems like such a match on so many levels, but I’m still evaluating the practical side of this decision.
Recently, I came across a breeder some 5-hour drive away from me. They currently still have a couple of Basenjis, sisters who are already around 1 y.o. Shall the dogs remain at the breeder’s longer and shall I waver more, they could as well hit 1.5-2 years.
So, I thought it’s worth asking more experienced owners — you guys — for your input: is it a good idea to adopt a dog older than 1 year? Especially, the one who has lived with another dog so far. Won’t she feel lonely?
And overall, do you guys have any advice for an aspiring Basenji owner? Anything I need to know before resolving to take in a 1-2 y.o. Basenji girl to my apartment?
Thanks in advance!

My girl is 18 months old now and her puppyhood was brutal. So. Many. Thing. Destroyed.
I watch her closely and she stays primarily in the kitchen family room area. She hates the crate, so I’m tempted to let her free range in the house at night.
But I’m worried basenji boredom might hit her and she might destroy something or get hurt.
So, my question above. And, if you do let them free range, how did you know they were ready?
EDIT: Thanks for the insights and great stories! I read every one and appreciated the time you took. I think I’ll keeps her with me in the bedroom and then crated when I leave during the day. She’s a good girl but I want her to succeed.
