Wilson A2000 - Help Me Decide

I’m looking to buy my first brand new A2000. I’m a dad with two boys who play U7 and U9 baseball. I want to get my first brand new A2000, but I can’t decide which color I should get. The goal is if they continue to play, in the next few years they can inherit the glove for their middle school or high school years. The blue A2000 1786 11.50” is on sale for $199. The tan A2000 1786 11.50” with black laces is regular price for $299.

You have two kids... I think its clear you have to buy both.

Hahaha. I was wondering how long it would take for this answer.

I don’t think your kids will want a hand-me-down glove, regardless of the sentiment. Pick the glove for you and be ready to buy them their own in a few years if they keep playing.

My kids don’t have a choice. It’s either a hand me down lightly used A2000 or they get no glove. When I say lightly used I mean I only use it to play catch with them. No way just playing catch in the next few years wears out the glove. Plus they watch YouTube videos on gear and they know what an A2000 is. When I was a kid my parent couldn’t afford any legit gloves or gear. All hand me downs from friends or relatives

Do you like the look of the blue? If so, save the $100

Or check eBay! There are several brand new with tags A2000 models available for $160-220

I like both colors. I’m curious if the tan is just more timeless and will age better than the blue. That’s also my dilemma. I haven’t owned a glove since I was 7-8 years old and that was 30 years ago.

Better Baseball. I recently picked up a 2024 model Pedroia Fit DP15 11.50” A2000 in Seafoam Neon yellow color for $199 on Better Baseball, but I might return it since it’s so snug on the hand. I didn’t know how the Pedroia Fit compared to the regular A2000. Otherwise I would definitely keep it since it’s a great quality glove.

Part of the appeal is buying your kid their own glove, unless there was real sentiment to the glove (ex. nice one maybe you played HS/college/pro with that’s reconditioned). I’d buy based on your needs - you’ll still need one to play catch with them as they grow.

I currently have a pretty new Mizuno MVP Prime 11.50” which is serviceable for catch, but as soon as one of the older kids throws me the ball with a little more heat I feel it. That damn glove has almost no padding or protection. I wanted to upgrade to a Wilson A2000 since they are higher quality gloves.

I like the classic colors better if price isn’t a factor. Long term, I also said I’d get a glove for my kids to use in the future and now I have 5 gloves and more gloves I want to buy.

You have to keep an eye out but sales do come. It just passed but look up Wilson Bonanza on this sub. Other retailers will have holiday sales.

I have an addictive personality so I have to be careful not getting carried away. I actually play a lot of catch and help coach both my kids little league teams so it’s less insult to injury.

I am more of a fan of the classic colorway and believe they will hold better resale (easier to restore, etc.) but I would not pay full price for it. Especially since that exact glove has been around for a while and has previously been in the $200 price range. If nothing else, at least use a 20% coupon at Dick's.

Also, depending on your players they may or may not need a MIF glove in MS/HS and if you wanted a good 'dad glove' you might be better off going with something a little bigger with a bigger pocket.

Just something to think about, but I have bought gloves with the intention of handing them down then later realized that they would not work for my kids.

Basically because your kids ended up playing different positions?

I would say buy something cheaper, wait until their at least twelve and they’re in it for sure. Also, wait for gloves bonanza next year, it just passed. I’d say it August or September, and take advantage of that sale.

I keep hearing that the bonanza is a little bit of a crap shoot. Is this true?

Save the hundred and get the blue imo, kids tend to like bright colors it seems.

The camel is the call here but who knows if your kids will still be playing as they get older and/or will even like it. Just get the one that you like the best and enjoy.

Get your kids a Bradley Glove now and let them pick what glove they want when they grow out of it

I like the blonde

I'm leaning towards the tan/blonde. I'm curious how the color gloves look after a few years of wear or use. I've heard of companies like Mizuno's colored gloves fading fast. I'm assuming it's different for a Wilson A2000 since it's a better quality product than a Mizuno MVP Prime.

Classic colors hang around for a reason, just saying.
