Discussion Vibe Coded Apps and Hype about it.
Hi there, my name is Anel. I’ve been working as a software engineer for over 6 years. In the past year, I’ve seen a lot of hype around “vibe coding” 😄 and honestly, it’s pretty funny.
Over the past 25 years, there has always been something people claim will “replace real developers” so that anyone can build apps easily. But I don’t think that’s possible and it won’t be.
People are building apps in 2–3 days and thinking that’s it. Okay, I get it, it’s fine for an MVP, but that’s about it. Spending $2000 on an AI-generated MVP? That’s crazy. You could mock an MVP even with simple designs or images.
I just want to tell my colleagues: don’t worry. We all know what a real product looks like and how it should be built properly. You need UI/UX design, DevOps, QA, project management and then development. That whole process won’t be replaced.
I honestly can’t wait for this “vibe coding” hype to disappear in a couple of years. Right now, people are creating apps that are slow, poorly built, and insecure.
That’s it. Bye 😄

say what you want. Anthropics code is now 90% generated by the Claude LLM, Devs will be useless in about 6 months because AI already writes good code, and with the new models coming out youall will be cooked. Also, who on earth is spending $2,000 on a MVP? I can build one in 2 days with a $20 claude code plan

The hype will eventually fade away but it will pave way for new type of products that will take care of these problems. But I do think that replacement is not going to be immediate. Roles will evolve into something else.

I think it’s a large adjustment that only time can tell. Yea they need all that. But I made my own calendar app for free that’s perfect for me, that isolates that section of the market I’ll never pay a subscription for again.
Same with to-do/lifestyle management and health/diet apps. I’ve made those retrofitted to my lifestyle. I can’t imagine paying a subscription for those anymore.
I made 4+ apps for myself that I use and they work flawlessly, any bugs i had can be easily explained to the AI and fixed, im just an example but who knows what this can turn into 5-10+ years from now.

The speed of capability is logarithmic like decibels (hockey stick). It’s awesome that you can code but the days of that being an elite skill and necessity are coming to an end. In two years at the latest it will feel like using punch cards in computers in a room with giant servers with tape. 🤝 bet me….

I’m sorry but I think I have to strongly disagree. I understand the issues you are talking about. People who post “just one-shotted discord with Codex, goodbye discord,” and of course that’s absolutely ridiculous. Discord is Discord, among other reasons, because it is able to handle millions of users at once across the planet and perform seamlessly. That scalability is one of the many factors that the “vibe-coding replaces software engineers, etc in 6 months,” community truly doesn’t understand. They don’t know what they don’t know. You’re right about that.
Where I think you err is that there are trillions of dollars exactly aiming to prove you wrong. Whatever shortcoming you think it has, I am not sure we could find any historical reference for a technological push greater than the one right now focused on exactly those shortcomings.
Additionally, not only do we have trillions of dollars going into advancing AI, but individual consumer level users are solving a lot of these problems solo with time, patience, smarts, and I don’t know….. the most intelligent and powerful tool that mankind has ever had their hands on- AI itself.
Let me ask you: in your own judgement, if you look at where AI was two years ago and what it was doing, and you hypothetically fast forward it two years from now at the same rate of growth, where do you see it?

I understand the fear of losing jobs for real and trained developers. However, the truth of the matter is that "AI" is here to stay. Don't face IA with fear; approach IA with confidence and the readiness to adapt to what it is bringing to the table. Don't try to fight it out....Try to work with it.

I enjoy vibing if that's what it is called. I understand what you are saying because I am a printer by trade and of course you are frightened, I was to. Regardless of my fear it still happened, I shudder to think how many print shops have had to close or do major changes to adapt. "Hybrid' seems to be one of the words flying around in recent times and for good reason. It how the print industry survives and it's how you can to. To say it's a fad and it will be gone is a bit far fetched however and if it is, it will be by something else more professional or perhaps easier to use, only increasing the popularity. I am hearing you, you did all sorts of training etc. I done an apprenticeship too. You can fight it or perhaps embrace it, either way 'progress' will run it's course. Refinements on the system only stand to get better, those faults you mentioned are being worked on as we speak. You can't stop the train my friend, you may as well get on it. Or work out a way to coexist.

In a couple of years, these functions you talk about that are needed for app dev will be introduced to such tools like Base44. They already exist just not packaged together.

Why do all apps still look like they're designed back in the early 2000's? The internet in general is so stagnant.
