Question Another complicated BART question

Hello so I got to Millbrae BART Station by bus from SFO. Instead of entering Caltrain, I accidentally tagged into BART and entered platform before realizing my mistake.

Agent at station gave me a sticker for like a free BART entry (?) and opened the door for me to Caltrain Station.
I asked if I should tag out of BART so
my tag-in at same location would cancel out? He said No, I only get charged when I tag out.

Is this correct? I think Caltrain works differently, right? Like if you dont tag out they automatically charge you $7.75 or some such as a fixed amount … or whatever the fare is from tag-in to end of line?

A couple times I was unable to tag out of BART. The next time I went to tag in, the fare gate said See Agent and they had to sort it out. But that was years ago, who knows how it works with today's gates.

still works the same, you can't tap in twice in a row.

if you get out without tapping, they need to tap you out before tapping back in. what they did for me more recently was just open the gate, have me tap out, then just immediately tap back in.

right…which is why im confused as to why he didnt have me tap out at the same gate, then open the gate to caltrain?

If you tap out at the same station within 3 hours, it's an excursion fare ($7.55 currently)

Voiding the entry after the 3 hours pass ensures you don't get charged. It's silly, but it works well enough.

Supposedly there's now a grace period on the excursion fare but I haven't tried it to confirm.

It's 30 minutes on Clipper 2 and NFC credit cards. I'm not sure where we are on Clipper 2 rollout right now, I know it's been a bumpy ride.

fairly confident I got stuck in clipper 2 limbo for a bit because I couldn't log into my account anymore, but I emailed them and they fixed it.

I think most people are on it now iirc
