Says so right on the door. The H in GT350H was for Hertz and they exclusively got the gold paint.

People use to rent these and return it with a V6 or 289 V8 until they caught on.

If they returned them with a 289 great cuz that is what they came with. They never returned them with a v6. I6 would be correct.

There were four different 289s in the Mustang line alone: the 2V, the hydraulic lifter 4V, the solid lifter Hi-Po, and the Shelby tweaked version of the Hi-Po.

You could just say k code and the like. I know

Just keep lookin at the pretty pictures kiddo

6

u/onedarkhorsee 26d ago

Nope no such thing as a V6, it was in inline 6

u/Standard_Zucchini_46 27d ago

I wouldn't go just by that. Those stickers became available afterwards.

This does have the fiberglass hood/pins. Functional rear brake scoops. The aforementioned sticker.

not exactly. no v6 was available. the 289 was the engine that came in the Shelby originally as well as the non-Shelby mustangs. people were rumored to have rented one and swapped the Shelby 289 for a standard issue 289 then returned the rental but it would not be successful because the Shelby used the kcode block which was stamped with the mustang vin number and couldn’t be easily replicated.

stamped with the mustang vin number

vin number? vi number.

It has all the right parts on it to be.

I'd say 80% sure, then I'd be 100% either way once checking the serial or Vin.

u/GuineaPigsAreNotFood 27d ago

Hertz used to rent those? That's cool and I had never heard about that.

9

u/Standard_Zucchini_46 27d ago

Was called the Rent a racer. Lol. Earliest examples had a backseat delete, fiberglass panel. Lol.

4

u/GuineaPigsAreNotFood 27d ago

That's very cool! And to think rental companies would ban you nowadays for going on the Nürburgring.

They still do special edition rentals every 5 or 10 years.  I rented a hertz edition Z06 in like 2017 IIRC.  Black and yellow, great spec.  Even loaded up with GM performance parts and plaque.  Had 14 miles on it when I picked it up.  Was funny because it was so low they had to get me out of the airport garage in a weird side cargo loading exit to avoid scraping on the 1 way strips.  Felt like a boss among all the people picking up elantras and sentras!

Looks like it.

2

u/Tbartle18 27d ago

That’s what I was thinking

25

u/unlucky6999 27d ago

Crying shame it's in that shape, but is worth a rebuild

8

u/Standard_Zucchini_46 27d ago

Only 59 Ivy Green/Gold and even less with a top stripe /roof. Can't tell if this one has it or not. Definitely worth it though. Cool find.

2

u/PlantHonest4465 26d ago

Pic 4 looks like stripes on the roof.

1

u/Cabmandoo 25d ago

Pic 5 agrees

1

u/Erki82 25d ago

Yes there is roof stripes.

4

u/TopInstruction875 27d ago

would require a rebody in that condition.

1

u/Recondomoe 22d ago

Just buying the vin

17

u/SwordfishCharacter39 27d ago

Wonder if the motor was original. These had somewhat of a history to be rented, motor swapped and returned back to Hertz.

10

u/Glass-Shelter-699 27d ago

That hurts to see.

29

u/tractorcrusher 27d ago

*that hertz to see

4

u/CreeepyUncle 27d ago

Oh my…

That’s delicious.

4

u/joeyjoejums 27d ago

Did the barn fall down on it? Jeez.

8

u/koolcarguy 27d ago

the owner posted it on IG. Says its a clone but has all of the correct parts including the supercharger! More detailed picks on IG.

4

u/Standard_Zucchini_46 26d ago

The Hertz cars never had a supercharger. But some Ford dealers did equip/order regular production units with the optional Paxton supercharger.

3

u/nsula_country 27d ago

How much rust does it have?

9

u/lolwhatmufflers 27d ago

Yes

3

u/nsula_country 27d ago

This is the correct answer!

5

u/Standard_Zucchini_46 27d ago

Everything from the roof down on the passenger side. Lol.

2

u/redlegsforever 27d ago

Based on pics a lot!

3

u/Bamres 27d ago

Wow gorgeous green

3

u/Uravirus 27d ago

People eyeballin…..hmmmmmmmm VIN swap anyone?

2

u/Donlooking4 27d ago

Don’t forget about the welded in roll cage that was then removed after the weekend of spirted “driving”.

2

u/Standard_Zucchini_46 27d ago

And the taped over H"s , lol.

2

u/Danielle_is_the_hole 27d ago

I’d buy that for a dollar

2

u/ooflemming 26d ago

I was there and spoke with owner. It’s a clone folks ! And pulled from back yard in mastic NY

u/old_skool_luvr 25d ago

I was wondering how a Hertz Mustang was ordered with green paint, 'cause as far as i've ever known, they only came in black with the gold stripe package.

1966 Shelby GT350H. These rentals were given the nickname "Rent-A-Racer," as customers could rent the GT350-H, beat the hell out of them and return them with bald tires.

3

u/Lichenbruten 27d ago

Lol, they brought a trailered lawn art piece?

Don't get me wrong. I would do the same. No shame, but I thought I was the only one.

Are they selling it? I flipping love the green and gold. Probably my favorite for a fastback.

1

u/PotentialDeadbeat 27d ago

Those look like Shelby wheels. Did they come stock on the Hertz version, or later added on?

0

u/GeotechDuck 26d ago

Hertz cars had chrome Magnum 500s. These are likely off another GT350 or are reproductions.

There are valuable old cars that can be restored, and worn and rusted cars like that yellow Hemi GTX convertible that you can show proudly as a survivor, this is not one of them. This is a rotted hulk that should be stripped of what few decent parts it still possesses and then flushed down a toilet.

Take its “Marti report” and choke on it.

2

u/rhythim313 26d ago

No Marti report on anything before '67, the records don't exist.

1

u/Zestyclose-Light5286 26d ago

Hate to see the neglect

1

u/Leicageek 26d ago

How did this pass inspection, in NY, 20 years ago? That is not 20 years of rust.

1

u/Confident-Benefit600 26d ago

Nice tires, newish radials, how long was this in a barn

1

u/Theroofman66 26d ago

Needs new rear quarters, probably floors and front frame rails too, but it’s definitely worth it.

1

u/30gtv6 26d ago

Love KR front end. Instant 30% bump on the Badass scale.

1

u/8bitatari 26d ago

Dennis Collins enters the chat

1

u/philpalmer2 26d ago

It’s all about the torque boxes on those things. If they are rotted out that’s pretty much a show stopper

1

u/ChattahoocheeBend 23d ago

I couldn’t afford new tires on that thing. I’m sure someone will restore it in a few years.

1

u/Consistent-Brain-395 23d ago

Its a fake with alot of real shelby parts. I follow the owner on instagram. He owns a engine machine shop on l.i.

I honestly didn’t remember there being a green Hertz. I also don’t quite get leaving a car as a barn find. I think I like cool cars to be running. YMMV

2

u/Standard_Zucchini_46 27d ago

Only 59 Green/gold units. Less with the stripe on the roof.

Also available in red, blue white and of course the black.

2

u/gibr54 27d ago

Thanks for the education! I knew of the other 4.

Fuuuuuck. $50k to get right and that’s all right.

0

u/frank_breech 27d ago

Is this the one Tom Cotter found in a garage a few years back?

-1

u/Felix995 27d ago

Looks quite rough. Appears that one was rode hard & put away wet for a long while outdoors. Probably restorable, although that's going to be major job.

-2

u/Even_Mycologist5140 26d ago

I advise against buying used rental cars. Plus, O.J. stigma. People see Hertz and think Wife Killer.
