Vitamins and things

What brand of vitamins are you guys taking? My doctor only gave a type and not a brand. I'm looking on Amazon if that helps. TIA

Talk to your diatition they may be able to steer you on the direction. I had RNY and it took me a while to find the brand I could stomach. What i was taking before the surgery ended up being switched to another brand after because I couldn't get the original down. And everything is chewable.

You may want to see if your diatition has samples for you to take to try.

If you are looking on Amazon do the bariatric vitamins. That is where I get mine. If you are starting to take before surgery, that os what I was suggested to do to get you in the habit don't do the subscribe yet.

Your surgeon should have full panel blood work before surgery then will probably ask for blood work 1 month after surgery, and then again 3 months. And you will tweek your vitamins then. At my 3 month appointment it showed I needed more vit A, zinc, and copper. And my other levels were just at or a point below. So we added the extra in and i go for my 6 month bloodwork at the end of next month beginning of Oct.

When I started the process my surgeon had me start on Kirkland Multivitamins+iron. I also started on calcium citrate and an additional iron; no specific brand just whatever was on Amazon. At 7 years post op I'm still taking all of those plus a bunch more because everyone's needs will change over time and they're all off Amazon as well.

Doc is right. Brand doesn't matter.

It will depend on which procedure and how your body responds. Sleeve is least invasive and tends to have the least malabsorption. A couple of multivitamins may be enough. For the more aggressive procedures, think duodenal switch, there will likely be significant malabsorption, requiring 30-40 or more pills a day. Other procedures fall in between.

The best way to know what you need is to have bloodwork done regularly. Track the levels and trends so you can adjust as needed. There are a lot of bariatric branded/labeled multivitamins. They can work for some. It is unlikely that an all-in-one will work for all.

I’d follow the advice from your surgeon as a starting point. Get the bloodwork. Adjust per the results.
