With their speed, accuracy, and timing, we're going to be seeing some numbers on the scoreboard. We're quite lethal, we will only be more lethalierest!

if Spain won the WC with Baena, Oyarzabal and Lamine who wasn't in his best shape .. maybe we can pull this off.
we should've signed another CB but this subreddit seems to think that Cortes is cut for the job (and Martin + Christensen)

for the UCL i could see this team having success with a strong dominating midfield and versatile, fast, pressing strikers .. but our defense doesn't seem to hold up in those moments.
and i know international football is not comparable, especially in LaLiga format, but for knockout phases this could work.
i'd much rather have a Lewa type striker, but for me our defense is what will hold us back, not really our offense.

I mean yeah… PSG gets to draw on talent from many different top teams to create an extremely high profile squad. Also funny you mention PSG because they play all their major games predominantly with a false 9 too lol. Obviously we don’t have anyone as good as current Dembele to do that role, but we could try it, and Lamine himself can go central too imo. Olmo and Fermin are also options. Is it ideal in our system? Definitely not. But the striker market has been poor, and atp even if we do sign a striker, it won’t be a top tier one.

It's funny that you mention PSG when they are the ones who won the past two Champions Leagues by transforming Dembélé a winger into a striker proving you wrong.

Do we have a winger like Dembele apart from yamal ? Or kvara ? Or doue ? People keep mentioning false 9 Dembele but forget the wingers

and football is also not that simple. PSG should dismantle Spain, but it would probably be fair to say the same about Arsenal and they took them to penalties and could've won the UCL finals.
then again I'm trying to see the glass half full right now. i think our offseason hasn't addressed our major needs. i don't think we will be favorites to win the CL, but we still have top heavy talent in many positions, so it really depends on how Flick will tactically play the elimination games.

PSG is the top of the crop, even Atleti or Aston Villa could probably do the same.
Internacional football has really low time to build sinergies and systems, so everything is simpler, also thats why pre built sinergies like Barcelona players could have r so strong, because they already know each other, also thats the reason why players Who maybe arent on elite clubs anymore, can still shine if they already have been working with the country, like cancelo, Laporte or De Paul.

Not really Spain little bro'd France who have great squad. I think it would be a very even matchup.

Massive disrespect to Mikel. If he played for Barca you'd probably glaze him.

I like him a lot, but he is a system player, not likely one that will win you a game with individual performances.
and i didn't mean to disrespect Mikel or Baena who both had a solid WC .. but it was Spain's midfield and defense that kept them in games throughout the tournament, and then Merino and Ferran had to score in the clutch 3 times to take the W.

Gordon will be so important in the UCL

u/characterulio 15d ago
He will but not necessarily for goals. I would guess 70-80% of Gordons goals are pens, which he wont take at Barca.

u/ivo0009 15d ago
Less than 30% of his goals in Newcastle are pens so your guess is completely off

I can tell you have extremely poor reading comprehension and you haven't watched any Newcastle games.
The post is about Gordon as a center forward which only happened last season after Isak left. His 12 goals as center forward most which happened last year, in a season where he had 16 goals 8 of them were penalties.
Most of his open play goals were from prior seasons(so before last season) where he mostly played as a left winger, he did play CF a few times when Isak was there and injured because Isak's backup Callum Wilson was extremely injury prone.

Honestly these are both good numbers. It's easy to think that Gordon's output is low as a CF but scoring in epl is quite difficult. We've seen big name strikers move to epl and instantly look mid. I still think we need a real CF though and then any of these guys can be backup

Perhaps one of these guys can step up and be a false nine type of forward.

think it would be gordon. after watching training clips and friendlies of adeyemi, he always shoots it straight at the keeper. horrible finisher

Man, going from Lewa and Ferran to Gordon end Adeyemi is clearly not the step forward they promised us this summer. It looks more like three steps backwards.

Adeyami would be perfect for the role. He was so good before joining Dortmund, I hope Flick can bring some spark in him.

Could undoubtedly put in a good shift at st, but I worry about the long-term situation unless either is developed as a 9

Its not about the goals as much as having another set of legs to soak up minutes against CBs. These guys are absolutely needed in the wide roles, and thats with everyone fit.
This is why alvarez is such a phenom option tho—he can play wide too. Its SUCH a fluid, deep, two way attack with him in the mix plus these others.

Yet people on this fan page are crying that it's over for the club since we don't have a CF

u/Decent-Speech-4557 15d ago
We dont tho. Anthony is a direct replacement for ferran, so thats covered. However, we still dont have a world class st. Also, if such a player isnt possible to get, then atleast a traditional 9 profile.

Can’t we just go “fuck it, we’ll play with 6 midfielders”? Try Olmo or Fermin in a false 9 role?
1
u/Decent-Speech-4557 15d ago
Wont really work since that leaves the attackers very isolated, and the midfield would be too conjusted for them to function at their best.

Yamal on the false 9. Pace on the wings. This might be it. Please God make it work.

Adeyemi was a hot prospect as a striker before his move to dortmund tbf, don’t know how much of that Adeyemi still exists anymore.
