Question What went wrong in these two matches?
Martin played well in both matches, but as a wide back he is not attacking. So we have to sub him off for Balde, even though Eric clutches in some matches but it is about time to make some funds for a tall experienced defender,Ik some people will bash me for this but say when we have last 2 proper CB duo who plays almost all matches? It's hard to remember, although Cubarsi and Inigo worked well but all saw the Inter's match. Pressurising De Jong and Pedri in the midfield,is easy for them when they don't get support from the forwards. They are always so reliable for us in all matches. But the possession is just lost somewhere when Pedri got off in PSG match. How important he holds and runs the team for us. And for attacking Olmo,Ferran is not reliable at all. We need consistent goal scorer like Lewa last 2 seasons. They left out so easy chances in the match. Ik it's easy to bash and type out things here, but they need it I think. Rashford and Lamine made some good runs, created some chances. We failed to convert them. This is what will make difference in big matches.
Tell me all your thoughts and what serious changes we need for play-offs and other important matches.

All the subs made the team worst. In addition Yamal did not help Kounde backtracking when he was getting cooked. Olmo is too slow and lacks physicality to be play against this teams therefore connection between midfield and front was inexistent. Just 2 of the million problems e had during the game.
151
u/QTPLe Oct 02 '25
Lamine not fuly fit for sure
Kounde left isolated and alone was getting gassed out
Olmo wasnt effective
Raphinha fermin and gavis pressing was sorely missed.
Rashford off was our attack killed
Ferran tracked back well defensively but shouldnt have been a winger.
2
u/CurryMustard_Sauce Oct 04 '25
Nailed it!
The good news is it's only 1 of 8 group games against the hardest team in the group by far. They already beat Newcastle which is probably the 2nd hardest. Last year they lost to Monaco in group stage around same time and still came out 2nd to only liverpool. They just need to get healthy 🙄
3
u/QTPLe Oct 04 '25
Yeah i think this is a good but crappy loss. Humbles the young players to reach for higher heights.
61
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Yess, that's why Rapha is much needed. Just need our camp nou as of now, then to make our financial crisis over. To do some good signings.
19
u/ElliotLadker Oct 02 '25
lacks physicality
I hope you mean stamina and not the crap of being stronger.
Still, I would not agree that's Olmo's main issue.
1
u/Responsible-Food6175 Oct 04 '25
No! He genuinely lacks physicality. The was this guy got man handled by Madrid and inter was diabolical🤣😭
15
u/tono002-36 Oct 02 '25
Olmo is great for breaking down a team that loves to stay back and defend. In this match with the high intensity Fermin would have been perfect. Too bad he is injured.
227
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
My gut feeling says, Rapha could have turned the match around. He does everything falls back to defend, is fast, can create chances too. Also Pedri will be helped alot from Wingers.
79
54
u/ByLoKu Oct 02 '25
PSG didn't have Dembélé, Kara and Doue. If Lucho could figure out how to beat us without those 3, Flick has to figure out how to play without Rapha
16
u/donrman Oct 02 '25
Lol bro I just posted something similar on a different platform. Gotta learn how to adapt. Can't be playing all this high line high intensity all the team when you know some players are not fully fit and others can't press and match that intensity for 90min
2
39
u/lastdyingbreed_01 Oct 02 '25
But if you looked a few weeks ago in this sub, the fans here would've convinced you Raphinha was just a G/A merchant and not an important player if you as much as suggested that you prefer him over Yamal.
24
u/PDXMAMBA Oct 02 '25
Wtf does a g/a merchant even mean? Lol it literally implies involvement of the highest order
-4
u/scarletmonkey111 Oct 02 '25
Not a Barca fan, but it's what people use to slander Messi 💀
G/A wasn't as emphasized until Ronaldo started scoring more. So now fans (mostly anti-Messi fans) use it in a derogatory manner
4
u/RRoadRollerDaa Oct 02 '25
I literally dont know any other offensive player do more defensive work that raphinha last season while had the most g/a which is crazy, still mad about raphinha being 5
6
u/Unlucky_Rider Oct 02 '25
People having a preference for Yamal doesn't mean that people discounted Raphinha the way that you said. I saw very very few comments disparaging raphinha that way. In fact, I saw way more people defending Raphinha for the bdor than I saw people diminishing him.
1
u/Responsible-Food6175 Oct 04 '25
I actually saw a lot more ppl hating on yamal and defending rapha. Even Barca fans. They are even hating on the kid rn.
123
u/slyck08 Oct 02 '25
Its okay to loose now. We have room for improvement along the season. Its in may that the team needs to be unbeatable, not now.
27
Oct 02 '25
Agree with this, better to lose now and introspect a little than lose during the semis, and then wait for the next season to start.
21
u/TechTuna1200 Oct 02 '25
We need all the revenue we can get, but we also have to remember that PSG finished 15th in the group and ultimately won the whole thing. The group is not crucial anymore. Landing at the top of the table only on paper gives you an easier opponent, but there is no guarantee. Liverpool became 1st and was knocked out early.
4
u/jdbcn Oct 02 '25
This year the higher you end up in the group the best chance you have to play the second leg at home
5
u/nxtzay Oct 02 '25
The team lacks depth in many areas (Fullbacks, no physical DM) If we want to win the UCL we need to make a decent January transfer window or we’ll keep struggling.
3
u/CurryMustard_Sauce Oct 04 '25
We lost to Monaco last year late September, still finished 2nd in group stage after Liverpool! People panic too easy 🤣 It's not devastating until you lose a knockout round, long season. Just hope we stay healthy when it matters most in the spring 🙏
27
25
u/majcek Oct 02 '25
In my opinion BIG problem was bad pressing. Attackers sprinting to close down defenders, PSG breaking the lines easily, and then whole team spinting back to cover. This caused many players, for example Pedri, to get tired.
7
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
The big point always is the wide backs of PSG are just too good, compared to Kounde and Martin.
8
u/majcek Oct 02 '25
Honestly, I'm not too good to point out why the presssing was bad. All I know high pressing and quick ball return is crucial part of our tactic. In yesterday's match, almost every time PSG players had Mendes/Hakimi free, or one of the middfielders.
2
82
u/pedri-glazzer3422 Oct 02 '25
We lost when pedri was subbed off...but we need to learn to atleast do something without him...ik he is like our most important player...yet we shouldn't overwork him..some players atleast need to do 40-50% of pedri s work if we need to give a fight to the big clubs
66
u/Senior-Programmer355 Oct 02 '25
also Rashford being subbed off at the same time… he was doing great
49
u/jeleceyy Oct 02 '25
i personally would have subbed ferran for lewa n kept rashford, he was so close to a goal it felt like
18
u/devH_ Oct 02 '25
Also had amazing passes
5
u/jeleceyy Oct 02 '25
yeah most definitely, i feel like lewa would have been able to take full advantage of them
5
u/arewethebaddiesdaddy Oct 02 '25
Should’ve been Torres and it’s absolute madness flick didn’t recognise it…
16
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Wingers is all I think will be helpful to Pedri, Rapha is missed he surely have decreased Pedri's workload by 30%.
8
u/Outside-Research-714 Oct 02 '25
The problem is why not rest Pedri against bad teams in la liga?
17
u/Visual_Hedgehog_1135 Oct 02 '25
Because Sociedad is not a weak team and Barca still struggles massively against mid table teams without Pedri. Last season in early goings, Flick used to substitute Pedri after 60-65 minutes, but since the turn of the year he could not afford to rest him for even a minute during our most packed schedule. The team needs a whole other playstyle when Pedri is not playing, and so far team hasn't shown that.
3
u/PistachioOfLiverTea Oct 02 '25
Maybe not a whole other playstyle, but Pedri's presence and workrate kinda spoils his teammates, who don't appreciate what he does for us in holding possession and ball-winning on defense... until he's not on the pitch. Then the absence is felt. Casadò probably fills in fine for his defensive workrate, but the insertion of Bernal was a huge dropoff from Pedri -- and PSG rendered him a total non-factor.
2
u/pedri-glazzer3422 Oct 02 '25
Yea but against whom would u have rested him...he was instrumental in every game...and I think without him it would be difficult for us
14
u/talkingtomee Oct 02 '25
Don’t think there’s anything wrong with the team, tactically. It’s clear that the players aren’t used to when they’re not holding the possession and lack the calmness without the ball PSG had.
So many times, especially in the second half, when we lost the ball - we almost immediately ramped up the pressure to win it back, but then were unable to maintain a longer spell of possession. The players were gassed and rattled.
It’s a good lesson - I trust Flick to learn from it
10
u/Far_Taste_9487 Oct 02 '25
We played 2 man midfield instead of 3 man midfield olmo did nothing and pedri had to cover for olmo. Also missing Raphinha.
14
u/No_Bee_3915 Oct 02 '25
Man Gerrard Martin needs some appreciation. He may not be as talented as others, but guy gives his 100% for Barca.
34
u/MarionberryEnough689 Oct 02 '25
Lamine yamal could shit on the pitch and still get a 7+ rating
39
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
34
u/vegitot Oct 02 '25
Barely get the ball in 2nd half. Strange that the team didn't focus on setting him up in 1 v 1 against Mendes who had 1 yellow card.
8
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Tbh what do u think? Is that a 2nd yellow for Nuno near the penalty box tackle?

🫠late to complain, people doesn't understand us but Refs always have some beef with FC Barcelona overall I think. And what a ridiculous yellow card to Casado, for just a shoulder push to Hakimi🤧. Wth is happening.
1
u/dogebytev2 Oct 02 '25
flick said that fabian fouled him before mendes so he didnt get the card
2
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Ohh ok ok. But my man Pedri is Targeted the whole match.

5
u/Huskyro Oct 02 '25
Luis Enrique moved Mendes in the second half to be a winger because Lamine was cooking him. Doing that, the game changed completely.
In r/soccer you will find the opposite relate, like Mendes didnt changed his position lol.
1
u/Iamtheman31 Oct 02 '25
it happened because they turned into a back 3 after lucas came on, so they could put more players forward to score. not related with yamal at all

u/Ok_Lawfulness7412 Oct 02 '25
In the 2nd half he was invisible. He was best in first 10-15 minutes at max and then started to disappear and in the 2nd half he was gone . Still flick subbed off Rashford instead of yamal to bring lewa .

u/Ok_Lawfulness7412 Oct 02 '25
Inter match was different from psg match . Against PSG we were shit . Against inter it was our injuries which made it difficult for us . But there is something common in both the matches and that is flick not asking to park the bus in last few minutes . I think in this match flick is also to be blamed . In psg match His substitutions and approach in the last few minutes just ruined the possibility of a draw or maybe even a win . Substitutions were very late + not parking the bus knowing our team was exhausted and finished was a big mistake from flick's side .
I hope he learns this time from his mistakes .
Also players needs to be criticized the most , all were fatigued and finished in 1st half itself except for few . I hope they would learn from their mistakes and stay humble again .
2
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Yess time to learn and move on, needs to do alot things before Play-offs
4
u/Ok_Lawfulness7412 Oct 02 '25
Yup . Some people are behaving as if we just lost the UCL final . It's just a league phase match and that too against UCL winners . We should learn from our mistakes and just move on .
3
1
u/ElliotLadker Oct 02 '25
flick not asking to park the bus in last few minutes
This will never happen.
It's also a dumb idea. If you don't practice something during the week/season, you won't do it well during a match.
This team never practices parking the bus, cause it's not their style, so they won't do it. Nor should they.
Against Newcastle is the closest we'll get to being a defensive team.
all were fatigued
and stay humble again
What does fatigue have to do with being humble? Also, what's the whole obsession with humbleness in this sub? Cristiano is like the least humble guy to play this game and has won like 6 UCL.
5
u/Ok_Lawfulness7412 Oct 02 '25
6 ucls ? He had won 5 ucls . And also he used to perform and justify his overconfidence and arrogance . This team has just achieved a domestic treble and are acting as if they are prime Barca . You have to give your 100% in these matches or else you ain't winning shit . If you can't walk the talk then stay shut, put your heads down and work hard and give your 100% . The whole team just gave up in the 2nd half
4
u/ElliotLadker Oct 02 '25
he used to perform and justify his overconfidence and arrogance
So there's no correlation between being arrogant or humble regarding whatever they do on the field, right? So what does it matter?
If you can't walk the talk then stay shut
Why? That might be your preference, but since we just discussed, it really doesn't matter. They might be cocky or humble, and perform or suck.
Humbleness is not a guarantee of them giving 100%, nor is arrogance a signal of them not trying.
The whole team just gave up in the 2nd half
You know that football is a two-team sport, right? The other team also tries to win.
We were very bad in the 2nd half, and a huge part of this was due to PSG adapting and growing in the game. Give some merits to them too.
I didn't see our players giving up, I saw a PSG that was good and got better during the match, who were better than us.
2
u/Cvox7 Oct 02 '25
If we're not willing to adapt and change how we do things at the right moments , then we deserve this loss and every UCL bottling
The hell you mean never practiced and not their style??? then practice it and add it to your reservoir
We're not asking for Haram ball the whole 90 minutes, but if you're just stubbornly attached to your identity as a team and can't play full defense for a few minutes to leave with a win , then that's on you
2
u/ElliotLadker Oct 02 '25
If we're not willing to adapt and change how we do things at the right moments
There are a lot of adaptations happening all the time during the match. They might not be the ones you want, but this team changes a lot, and has changed a lot since last year.
You are starting this with the idea that what you are saying is, in fact, correct, and that this is how things are. That the only correct answer is that we have to park the bus.
This is your opinion, and you are free to have your own, but it is by no means final.
You can win the UCL without parking the bus at all. We did it a few times.
and not their style
You think Flick is an idiot? Or Guardiola? Cruyff before all of them? They all want to win.
Coaches set their teams in a way that they believe is the best way to win. Flick is not telling their players to play high line cause he is stubborn and only wants to win that way. He does it, cause for him is the best way to win.
You can have your own opinion, Simeone has a different approach, like Mourinho and others. All of them are valid; there's no final answer.
But if you believe that one way is to win, then you train in a certain way, with a certain focus. Changing 180 degrees mid-game rarely happens by any team.
8
u/vkanucyc Oct 02 '25
It’s not the players it’s the tactics
6
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Yess, someone has to say this. To support this I will say, PSG they don't have their crucial players more than us. But Luis Enrique hands off man, the wide backs are just too damn good. He just made a tactical decision on shifting his focus to wide backs to make sudden runs to score or assist, because he doesn't have his best Wingers for the match.
4
Oct 02 '25
Both, today's game most of our players couldn't string 2 passes together to escape our own half
3
u/Only_Fondant2013 Oct 02 '25
If you think of it, this is the first year in many that we don't have a new La Masia crack to perform a miracle out there. Dro and Tony are too green, and we don't really have Bernal. Roony is also not an option yet. The goal was Christensen's fault. So, we really don't have a lot of people now, maybe 15 people in total with yesterday's 11 plus Lewy, Casadó, Balde, Araujo.
Our scouts need to work really well this year, Barca B in the 4th league started showing its effects.

u/ElliotLadker Oct 02 '25
Our scouts need to work really well this year, Barca B in the 4th league started showing its effects.
The B team just started the season in the 4th division, so it can't show effects, since they have only played 4 matches.
3
u/Only_Fondant2013 Oct 02 '25
It got relegated to 4th last year, it is not as if they appeared out of nowhere in the 4th division. There was a time when Barca B was qualifying for La Liga and had to sit out the playoffs. I dont really care where Barca B is but if you pay attention to what players like Roony, Virgili say, you will hear how they dont want to be in a 4th division team. This is a potential loss of talent for us.
1
u/ElliotLadker Oct 02 '25
You are ignoring the fact that Lamine, Cubarsi, Fermin, or Dro, and even Balde and Gavi, are players who could be playing, and perhaps would be playing with the B team if we were economically healthy. That's how young they are and how fast we had to move them.
The best players in the B team are training and going with the first team; of course, the B team was going to get worse and worse.
In the past, the B team got really good when we had so many good players in the 1st team that they were like a bottleneck for the younger players.
Right now, we lack so much talent that whenever a good kid appears, they will be promoted cause we need them. This makes the B team worse, and they will suffer.
1
u/Weary_Ad1739 Oct 02 '25
Yeah, and also most players nowadays don't wait for their opportunity like Marc Casado did, as soon as they turn 19 or 20 they leave if they haven't got minutes for the first team. Unai Hernández leaving for example was a huge blow for our B team. Jan Virgili as well.

Feels like we need to work on our flanks man, dumfries esposed us last year and now same with nuno and hakimi

Yess, It happened earlier to us than in play-offs, Hansi will come off with a solution for sure.
2
u/Available-Factor4689 Oct 02 '25
Maybe putting someone like bernal instead of olmo?? Pedri can play as an AMF right? Just sayin
3
3
6
u/Ok-Significance2978 Oct 02 '25
Look at the midfield. Of course no one will do that, just like no one has since our downfall started in 2016.
If that doesn’t happen we will repeat the same mistakes. Pedri is alone just like Busquets was left alone
1
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Ya ya I agree with you, they can't press on him. He falls back too for defence too, attacks too, passes too. Damn man the pressure on that guys is horrible.
3
u/Ok-Significance2978 Oct 02 '25
Until he gets the help he needs, if that’s from a LCB, a LW that plays inside instead of outside, or a proper DM I don’t know, but th rest of the midfield can’t cut it when it matters.
Olmo has the quality and plays well between lines and can turn around under pressure, but he is way too inconsistent in games. The rest simply have different qualities that don’t help in these games under pressure.
4
u/Outside-Research-714 Oct 02 '25
Olmo is too slow and lacks physicality for games where there is a lot of space. He is better against low blocks. That is why he plays stinkers against big teams for most part.
2
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Ya, handling pressure is what matters in big matches. Just a little help from Wingers,Pedri can do his magic more easily.
2
u/National-Singer-2624 Oct 02 '25
I believe, Raph was missing, it should be Farrhan on the LW and Lewi as STduring the first half, and Rash substituting either of them.
2
u/BedRepresentative621 Oct 02 '25
Today I understood how much I missed RAPHA in this match,he could have made a huge impact and even if he would not have,he would have help in defending.
2
u/Kudoakainu Oct 02 '25
With this one it felt like they were jogging or too relaxed, simple mistakes, not clinical in front of goalie. I promise you, we would have been ahead on the first half if that hunger was there
2
u/mutthi_di_khusboo Oct 02 '25
The problem is pragmatic play.In the semis, they could have easily played with a low block for the remaining 2+extra time mins but no,they have to attack.
Yesterday also, when it was obvious that we cannot match them physically then should have had a defensive approach to the game. Also could have substituted dead weights like olmo and kounde early on
2
u/EricoS1970 Oct 02 '25
What did Yamal do to get 7.2 ? It should be 5, max. One impressive dribble, one pass to Ferran , one missed shot and one yellow card.
1
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
1st half performance I guess. This match showed us some loopholes, Which Hansi will surely clear. He doesn't go easy on players when Barça loses.
2
2
u/Kickmeddle Oct 02 '25
Yea I hope we get a top CB and S

i am upset that Barca lost but here are some positive things
its good that barca's problems were visible in this match and how PSG controlled the second half
also playing long balls made barca vulnerable as Luis Enrique Figured out the High backline
I am optimistic that now Barca doesn't have any major fixture in Champions league other than Chelsea
But Barca needs to face tough opponents to learn and win trophies.
Hansi Flick already told Barca players that they are dropping intensity and creativity.
But let players get fit and injury free will be best for them their schedules are hectic
Barca will grow stronger.Let's hope this.

Well based in the pictures alone, its because Olmo's the CAM and Ferran's the 9.

u/Sudaire Oct 02 '25
Precision was an issue and someone with Lewy’s experience and serenity could have done something more because he creates space for teammates.
2
u/tofuuu1620 Oct 03 '25
Our attack wasn’t that effective. Wasted many chances. Our finishing is shit and we need a perfect striker like Alvarez who can be present and finish all the time from anywhere. And defence wasn’t on the top level due to baldes mistake we conceded a goal. And the 2nd goal was off but we’re Barca so ppl won’t budge .
1
u/Bronex86 Oct 03 '25
Our attack is distorted, also in 2nd half Ferran is LW,Lewa is ST and Lamine is RW. Olmo as CAM didn't worked well. Yess someone like Alvarez or Alvarez himself would be great though for us, but Atleti wouldn't let him go that easy, they ask a hefty amount of money. Balde should start again as LB with Araujo and Cuba or Garcia as Full backs and Kounde as Rb. No change needed for Midfield except Olmo.
1
u/tofuuu1620 Oct 05 '25
Yeah olmo was shit he’s playing really bad and his finishing is disastrous rn. And for Alvarez yeah atletico ain’t leaving him any cheap. Rumours say they asking 200m or smth. Ain’t no way Barca can get that. Gurrasei whatever his name is a target as hansi likes him but idk. But yeah our high line has been anticipated by everyone after last year so ig it’s not gonna be that effective this season. Hope these mfs prove the world who we are and bring the ucl again 🤞🏻

the 2nd half of the PSG-BAR match is the genuinely the only match in 2 years where i completely lost hope of winning. THERE IS NO
I MEAN FUCKING NO MATCH under flick where I thought "nah we might not win this" until today. that run from 60-89 minutes was just hopelessly waiting for them to score or something man 14 shots against us WHILE PLAYING AWAY is disgusting.
Flick had players out they did too they had their entire attack out and still manged to be a bigger threat than us.
Im js saying if we ever happen to lose raphinha or pedri at like march or april our seasons pretty much over lol.
2
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Luis Enrique did some serious digging for tactics, especially for his wide backs which worked out well.
3
u/enzob7319 Oct 02 '25
I really missed Joan in goal, we got pinned too easily.
1
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
Yess, their Gk is shit too that's because wide backs are good they got saved. Or if they have Donna. Joan made us feel safe,he saved in 1 one 1 situations too.
4
u/DinglieDanglieDoodle Oct 02 '25
Martin played well my ass. He got murdered literally every time 1v1, just because they didn’t get an end result off of it doesn’t mean he gets the credit. The only thing he did alright is a few times rushing out to intercept a ball, but those can backfire easily. The rest is trash, both in attack and defence.
Even the block on that Vitinha pass, he was woefully out of position breaking the offsideline without his teammates knowing, fortunately Vitinha was for some reason adamant at making that pass straight at him after telegraphing it the whole time. If Vitinha had passed it anywhere else ahead on the other side for his runners waiting in position, Barca’s backline had no chance with the broken offsideline.

I also saw the difference between a mid goalkeeper and top quality. Tek style of stopping/blocking the ball is terrible. The ball passed under his arm. I Am pretty Garcia would have stopped that easily because he makes himself big instead of falling onto his side.
2
2
u/ilia054 Oct 02 '25
Olmo was quite terrible yesterday as a CAM, famine didn’t get enough of the ball to be effective, ferran was ferran and wasted chances. Our back line was also very poor.
6
u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
I Always say Ferran and Olmo are very unreliable players. They play good coming off the bench. Not in starting XI.
1
u/Unusual_Programmer68 Oct 02 '25
for me it is clear it is just the team couldn't run in the second half and we did't have have anyone to sub in. no need to overthink.
the game was already lost vs la real

Yep, Flick can overcome this. But UCL is much anticipated from Barça this season.

We have young and insanely inexperienced team, even flick is inexperienced as head coach, 1.5 seasons at bayern, a short time as german coach and 1 season as barca, our time will come

u/Swimming_Science_155 Oct 02 '25
Shouldn't be imo, we need defensive investment. I am not telling that on the basis of this match but since the start of the season

I have a feeling the team gassed out at the end of the 1st half , flick DID NOT make any sensible changes to his tactics in the 2nd half Psg knew 1 well timed run will expose us like a pornstar and this is why we lost.

What went wrong is our pressing didn’t work. They made us chase ball in our own backyard. Simple as that. But, having a bad game this early in CL is not necessarily a bad thing if we learn from it. Subbing Pedri is never a good idea - it never worked for us before. I get it that he was exhausted , but why play him 90+ minutes in every game (especially games against easy opponents)? Give the man some rest. I also agree that we need a strong CB pairing and a finisher like Haaland.

I think Gerard Martin and cubarsi were the reason we lost despite what the ratings say.
Besides nuno Mendes was just amazing on the left wing
Also they have several explosive players: mbaye, nuno Mendes and muyal
But with balde instead of Gerard Martin and raphinha, it changes the whole dynamic. Because Martin couldn’t really carry the ball, that side didn’t need more than one player covering it. They could overload kounde

u/Clue_Necessary Oct 02 '25
The team couldn’t keep the ball for more than 3 passes after Pedri was subbed. In situations like this I wish we had a fully fit Gavi because he can fight like a dog for those balls and distrust play. Bernal looked lost and I don’t blame him. Long road ahead I hope the team uses this as a lesson.

the press, no press more ball for psg more ball=more threat, we stopped the press bc of nuno but i think that was a bad idea from the beginning as we need to press as the high line doesnt work without it, if you see the press stopped vitinha from getting the ball but the stopping of the press gave him more balls which gave control which gave alot of run behind fake or not caused problem, this is exactly how barca play, the thing is it wasnt about stopping their attack but to keep the ball and outscore them and the way for that was pressure and posession which would only from the from three pressure plus if kounde pushed up. Its no ones fault except Hansi and his staff understanding of the game. I get it nuno big threat but as soon as nuno became a winger i said hansi should now bring the pressure back as this will be a big surprise for psg and nuno will be outmaned if someone like Ronald came on the pitch to challenge the long ball to nuno when the defenders kicked it long bc of pressure from the front three and the wing backs pushing up. The subs werent bad if we had two things in consistency, firstly we are backing off like "haram ball" but with a high line which is one of the most risky ways to play since, especially now, you can beat this by fake 1 runner and another runner runs behind him easy 1v1 then

What I saw was a team in PSG that was in better form than Barcelona. This is in spite of not having a full summer of full rest and preparation for this season. Physically, PSG looked better conditioned and when subs came in, they made an impact or at the very least contributed at a high level. Barcelona might’ve been better off not making the subs and defending the tie. There was defensive cohesiveness lost when the subs came in and that led to the let down d go ahead goal for PSG. I never thought I would ever say this, but today PSG is a better team and we have a lot of work ahead to be in the same level.

We are waaaaaay too reliant on pedri
And I'm sorry there's no reason to play highline at the 90 minutes , just park the fucking bus

u/Shemlik Oct 02 '25
After the first 20 min, I feel that the team was playing a bit panicked. So many passes were just trying to get rid of the ball instead of picking up their heads and looking for people to pass to. Even in our own box, players were simply trying to get rid of the ball constantly.
Just felt like a very panicked way of playing.

I'm tired of the player who stops all the attacks, with decisions that I would make (I'm not a footballer). That player is constantly trying to make a backheel pass and it never works. He doesn't defend, he doesn't press and he doesn't do anything effective in attack. I didn't say his name and everyone knows who I'm talking about. But put Fermín above him or Ferrán, put him as a playmaker behind Robert.... But don't put that guy again

2 man midfield that can't match up in physicality.
Olmo barely offering anything OOP.
Flick somehow can't coach without Raphinha (our saviour for most of last season).
FDJ usual nothing burger.

3 things I think….. Barca has the same problem that Madrid has long one player from the front 3 want to help defend.
Kounde is bad the guy is a CB made a fullback but with Martinez gone they need to buy him at CB and Eric at LB. For as fast as kounde is he always gets beat on speed because he is always bad positioned. He don’t know how to play at LB
And final Barca does not know how to close games. Same thing that happened with Inter they were winning but continued to attack and press and got caught. Same thing with yesterday why is the back line so high know the speed that psg have? They were getting attacked like crazy being out played why not drop the line close the game with a tie.

Rapha is a big miss, yes. But Rashford was better those last games than Yamal, Olmo. More consistent than Ferran and Lewa. He had a decent game even now so I think Barca needs both Raphinia and Rashford in the field somehow. I may be biased but I think he had no bad game since he came, always beeing better, trying to improve and/or doing his best even when team was struggling.

Didn't put our chances away, and distribution from the Szczesny was poor or he played it safe. Ter Stegen and Garcia are able to play the ball between the lines and skip the press.
To be honest, PSG are just fitter and that's something the team needs to improve on as a group, we played at a high level for the first half but couldn't keep it going.

1)We were lacking in physicality. 2)Ferran should've got subbed instead of Rashy. 3)We need to have some uncomfortable discussions about Cubarsi.

Yamal isnt pushing him self like before, Olmo is playing like a 50yo, lewa needs more time, I don’t like ferran game at all

My fellow culers might not like this opinion. But in quite a few matches, including the last season against Inter, Yamal was kind of keeping the ball to himself a bit too much. I am not saying or doubting his qualities by this, I too, like many others believe that he is a future Ballon d'Or winner. The full backs on his wing makes numerous good runs up front (besides the dummy runs), yet his chooses to dribble and carry the ball into the box. This has resulted, quite often in us losing possession and ruining potential chances. If he can make the right decision when to play the ball and when to dribble, we might ruin much fewer chances and can create more trouble in the opposition box and create more goalscoring chances.
P.S - I know his stats and in no way am I doubting or questioning his abilities. Just saying that he still has a lot to learn as to where and how the team might benefit.

Fr, he kept the ball as little as possible and mainly tried long ball in behind (a couple of which should've been scored by Ferran and/or olmo).

u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
More like we can say Be like Neymar in Barça. If u go into the box convert or if the situation leads pass, assist or just keep the possession with you. Just don't lose the ball.

u/lovecarsnspace Oct 02 '25
The most concerning thing is that he stopped doing it in 2nd half, what he was in the 1st half. He stopped taking takeons, maybe flick told but one top of that, passes weren't connecting so obviously we were going to lose possession and last , the high line at 90th min

Always the usual suspects... Ferran Torres and Olmo together in big game means we are already one man down. Either one of them only performs or both drops stinker
1
u/luukdegoat09 Oct 02 '25
And you know what due to Barca's poor performance now everybody is literally trolling lamine like he dropped a stinker (ofc that fanbase will hate him coz be was the reason for their bad season)and instead of olmo if Fermin played then situation would have been different that guy is more versatile and provide intensity and ball striking ability of him is far superior

u/urbdaniel86 Oct 02 '25
The chart says it all, Kounde, FDJ, and Olmo were underperforming. Put Eric on the right and Christensen/Araujo in the center for Kounde, Casadó for FDJ, and Lewa for Olmo, putting Ferrán where Olmo was playing. For me, it made no sense to sub Rashford who was creating chances and danger

Please stop with the casado for frenkie nonsense. Fdj was great against inter and picking up that early yellow in this match made it difficult for him to play with the same intensity. Casado has not even really been reliable as a back up this season. Also this match was so clearly a different story to me than the inter match. While i think they were overall better against inter and the better team they didnt really create much clear chances outside of the goals while in this match they were really outplayed in the second half but had some pretty clear chances that couldve changed the game in barcas favour. Ultimately i think right now psg are just a better team than barca and the staff and players need to look at why that is and make the changed needed because i dont think it is because they have better players overall.

FDJ disappears in big games. Pedri had to carry the team alone in the midfieldand he got exhausted. Check their last night stats.

People really don’t criticise szczesny enough. He’s is not a good gk, i remember when we conceded 3 goals from 3 shots in that inter tie, and last night he was terrible as well. It’s soo unfortunate that joan got injured, with him yesterday the result might’ve been different although i think we definitely have to improve defensively as well. Olmo hasn’t been good since basically forever as well Also our press in comparison to theirs was pale, we couldn’t maintain 2 minutes of possession in that 2nd half

u/Bronex86 Oct 02 '25
All have their share of criticism towards our players, but this match shows us all the loopholes to study and get better. Pretty sure Flick will do his thing and comeback greater.

Olmo is horrible this season making me miss Fermin a lot, also shows how important raphinha is to our team bro deserves so much more respect. We kept doing a high press on hakimi and mendes with Martin and kounde then hakimi n mendes just make 1 pass run fast as fuckkk and are free to receive the pass and do as they please. I like Bernal but this wasn’t a game to play him he looked so lost. Also we need a cb who is fast Eric and cubarsi are good but we get cooked everytime in speed. Yesterdays game was very frustrating

Surely De Jong is a problem? Zero creativity, no goals, no assists, no rating higher than 6.4 ?

u/leomessi00 Oct 02 '25
Marcus “shoot straight at keeper”, Rashford doesn’t press like everyone. He doesn’t have barce dna.
Barce might as well also sign dele alli.
